Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run with' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run into each other one of these times' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I also "use" my 996's year round and I'd bet that there are many more positive experiences of ownership than we hear about.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

All,
It was March 1st 2013 that I picked up my 996 C4S. At the time it had 87,000 miles and was located in central CT. Since then I have logged close to 15,000 miles, countless smiles and made some priceless memories in the process.
Going through all my pics I thought some on here might enjoy seeing some of the adventures I have been fortunate to take the car on on in that year time span. Its been on 1000+ mile road trips through the NE, climbed Mt Washington, endured Boston/NJ city traffic, made errand runs illegally entertaining, started random gas pump conversations with strangers, carried gear for a fishing trip, used for business trips, entered in cars shows, surprised plow trucks and embarrassed SUVs in the snow, fit more passengers and cargo than a 2+2 has a right to, and recently survived the "Polar Vortex"
On top of all that it has returned an avg of 25+ MPG on most trips and typcially sees 28-29 on hwy driving.
Looking back I have to laugh at all the sleep lost over IMS/RMS worries that come from the, shall we say, abundance of knowledge available on the net in my pre-purchase research. Taking the IMS out of the equation (done before taking possession) it has required very few replacement parts. A new radiator and starter at 89,000 and a front wheel bearing at around 101,000 miles. For all the worries and concerns, these are truly fantastic 4 season cars.
Now if only all 1 year anniversaries could be so trouble free..
(pics in semi chronological order)
Yup. I got a bit too enthusiastic during a recent winter driving event and made the corner wider for the next guy
Seeeu911 - Wow, thats some serious mileage. Awesome.
Thanks everyone for the great feedback. Sometimes its just nice to hear about something other than the latest catastrophe
Great post, Great pics. I also "use" my 996's year round and I'd bet that there are many more positive experiences of ownership than we hear about.
I thought my C2 was the best winter car I ever owned, but the C4S has proven to trump that. I grin every time I see the latest SUV wig wagging in my rear view as they seem to attempt to want to prove that they can keep up with that silly guy driving a Porsche in the snow and ice.
Great pics, thanks for sharing.
But I have to ask... One of your pics shows a removable hard top sitting in the snow.... Was someone actually driving topless at the event?

I see we seem to run with the same guys I run with... (Ilko, Bob...etc). I dont think we've met though, maybe we'll catch up in the spring (if it ever gets here). Glad you are enjoying the car... I truly miss mine.
redridge - Yes, Bob and Ilko are great guys. Meeting them was part of what made the year so enjoyable. Sure we will run into each other one of these times
MtnFlyer - since you asked...yes
Absolutely love this post! Thanks for all the photos too, especially since I just picked up a '02 seal grey C4S a month ago and it's like looking at my own car visiting all these sites. I'll post up pics one of these days, if the temperature ever gets above freezing long enough that I can clean her up properly.
Congrats on the anniversary. Here's to many more years of enjoyment!
Quite the journey! Hope you have many more years just like this past one.
Did you do the IMS upgrade or the solution? I'm very curious since the 996 C4S was on my list when I was on the hunt for a car last year. Ultimately I was concerned about the IMS and got the 997.2 instead. If facts can really prove to eliminate this issue I would have no hesitation to get into one down the road.
I honestly can't say the same with my car...it doesn't get driven nearly as much. But I did drive it up to Washington DC this past Christmas. Aside of that I haven't took any road trips with the car yet, and it gets driven 50-100 miles per week.
At the time I had mine done, I dont know the solution was an option. I had the original ceramic bearing done. Should I have the opportunity to replace this I would likely consider the solution with the DOF as an end all but I dont expect to have any issues prior to the next clutch replacement. FWIW the original bearing had 87,000 on it and ever so slight amount of axial play
Karlas - it is a great color =)
