POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well my Japan sourced 1991 964 Tip arrives within the next week & the build will commence. Key Changes to be: G50/21 6 speed Gearbox install Engine rebuild to approx 340/350 Hp Interior with the cool new Recaro Pole Position (Pepita) Brakes / Suspension all renewed to at least RS specifications Currently she looks like:

POST 2Original post

Very cool build list, love it and interested to follow along so please keep the updates coming. Is that Amazon green? With regards to your G50/21 conversion, have you sourced the box and all the required parts? If so, do you need/have your sourced a C2 shift linkage housing? My understanding is this is only on the C2 manual, the C4 manual does not have it and i don't believe a C2 tip would have it. Just wondering where you sourced this from and what it is actually called?

POST 3Original post

Hey Mark, congrats... how did you find the whole import process with all the added costs, etc.. was it still a win ($) rather than buying local? Would you recommend doing it?

POST 4Original post

Subscribed , looking forward to the build ,cool tasty mods you are doing

POST 5Original post

Nice build. Love a good hot rod. My car has around the power you are after. Is awesome. This might come in handy if you haven’t already found it https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/1202928-tiptronic-to-manual-conversion-instruction-manual.html

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 341509

Thank you for this. That shifter mount plate is I think, what I was chasing/after for a C4 to C2 conversion - great to know that it can still be purchased new.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Gents, The car (finally) cleared the painful Customs / Dept of Agriculture process and is in my hands today. Build will commence in a couple of weeks, so patience is a virtue. Transmission / Gearshift Mount - I believe Pelican have the part you are looking for.  Do the usual Renlist "Tip to Manual" search and you will find the reference. Price - well lets say that if I halved the current Aussie listing prices (for Tip cars),  you may be awfully close to what I landed the car for.  A Tip on the global market is (max) a $70-80k car ... the aussie sellers are dreaming.  Another appeared last week @ $200k.

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 344095

I have been thinking about this more and more lately... there was a US car recently that would have been landed in that price point you suggest, albeit LHD (obviously), however case in point... the local market vs row market for these 964's is just stupid as you suggest! Keen to watch this one.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update: Engine, Transmission, Suspension, Frunk are all now cleared out ready for the full re-paint (bare metal). If all goes to plan she should end up a bit like a RUF RCT (narrow body - the rear wing and turbo). Next post in about 2 weeks when she gets to the panel shop.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry Gents for the lack of info !  I guess those of us that have undertaken such a project understand that (like a fine wine) these things take time. COVID doesn't really help as I cannot go and visit the car and "push" a little. Enough of those weak kneed excuses, car is now fully stripped - and I mean every nut & bolt, harness (even though we discussed leaving that in) and it looked like this: We were SO happy to really get inside the whole car and find a completely clean (zero rust) car with no chassis damage (photos available for those interested). Over the last week the car was at a specialist metal fabricator to do a little Hot Rod surgery ... I attach below a couple of photos for viewing pleasure. I will leave your eagle eyes to pick up the alteration/s. I am VERY excited to have this classic RUF element included for this car !!

POST 12Original post

Ooh drip rails removed. Nice mod that one 👍

Looking good @mark2559 mate. Love the progress and pace.  Nice touch with the RUF look rain channels ‘gone’ too.  Proper euro hot rod touch.  Not sure about the 4” new wheels though. (I crack myself up sometimes). Please keep the updates rolling mate.

POST 15Original post

A little birdy tells me @mark2559 already flew a 993 short ratio 6 speed gearbox and suitable new lsd straight from 🇩🇪 ……he’s not messing around on this build…!

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

MC - "spoiler alert ... yes, got a 993 G50/21 with shortened final drive + Motorsport LSD satanding by.  All rebuilt by Freisinger Motorsport (Germany). A few other tasty parts to reveal later too.

Just keeping you engaged mate…. 🤩 .  (hey your first post in this thread  gave most of it away!)

POST 18Original post

Nice. I was immediately wondering if you were going to do the rain channels when I started reading the topic. Glad you do -makes it really look so much better and closer to a RUF.  Good luck with the project and thanks for sharing progress!

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yep - Aaron did the rain gutter delete.  Unbelievable metal skills he has !!!

POST 21Original post

Any long weekend update @mark2559 we can enjoy?

POST 22Original post

Hey so umm, I don’t want to sound like a nannie no fun because I’m all about hot-rodding but I’ve got to ask. What are you planning to do to replace the structural stiffness the drip rails provide to the shell? 911 bodies flex a lot. Like really alot. The rails are doing quite a bit of heavy lifting.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The drip rails were in place because that was the easiest way for Porsche to assemble the panels (side + roof + rear quarter) and not have to "finish" the external appearance prior to paint.  The cross section of a 964 roof rail section is as per the attached photo. The internal diagonal member is fully seam welded (providing a triangular support) to the roof edge/side panel.  There are plenty of reference cases (including RUF's own assessment) that document that the car is now more stiff with a full welded structure (rather than spot welded). Additionally a 964 is a LOT more stiff than G Body (sorry to call this out) due to the dramatically larger sill structure + central transmission tunnel (for AWD) + much better front and rear subframes. I am not at all concerned about torsional stiffness with this modification.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just another brief comment on this subject.  I researched (in detail) this topic and quote directly from RUF as follows: The roof of your Porsche is made up of three metal sheets. One over the roof, one over the rear fenders (the C-Pillar), and one along the side, which goes inside the car. These three plates were originally hammered together at the Porsche factory to form the rain gutters. They are not bound together in any other way. Through our gutter conversion, the area where the three pieces fold together is cut off, and then all three are welded together. Welding of the plates greatly increases their strength, and definitely makes the body much more stiff all around and along the roof line. Cutting, welding, and repainting are the only processes undergone in this conversion. No other parts or procedures need to be assembled or carried out. Close up of the cut section is: Now these 3 pieces are fully seam welded (base of A pillar to base of C pillar).  I am sure that I will not have a problem. BTW - thanks for your interest and comments !  Keep them flowing !

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Time to post a few more pics that have accumulated over the last few months of the build. Body stripped to bare metal and epoxy primer applied. Should get colour early next week, with a goal to finish the body prior to Christmas.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well finally got some colour on (just before Christmas). Amazon Green is a beguiling colour ... in the flesh it really is as per the Front Bumper ! Final paint and panel work this week ... then back to Corse Motorsport for some building !

POST 28Original post

I just discovered this Mark and I’m loving the build thread. I will follow it with interest since I’ve just bought a car that is RS/RUF CTR Yellowbird inspired.

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 363915

Absolutely superb - though subtle, the roof rail delete looks cool too.

POST 33Original post

Looking ACE mate!!! Keep it up!! That colour..... 😍 😍

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well next week the body returns to my mechanic (Corse Automotive, Sydney) for the assembly process.  Visited Berlina Body Works today and thought I would post some before and after images. The car had recieved some very bodgy respray (at some time during the last 30 years) - including that they didn't even match the colour correctly (not even close).  In the windscreen and rear screen surrounds we found the correct colour.  Then mixed that colour & and an original formulation prior to settling on exactly what was Amazon Green.  Here is the correct Amazon Green.

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well folks, my 1st update in 6 months.  In the Hot Rod build game 6 months is akin to shopping at Colesworth for the rump steak ... there is still the cooking, seasoning and saucing still to go. Suspension, Brakes, Instruments, Shifter, Wiring harnes mods (no photos), Headlights, Rear Spoiler + associated plumbing, wiring etc are now in. So rather than me blab on, I will let the photos do some talking.

POST 37Original post

Some tasty kit there mate. Shifter...mmmmmm 🤤 🤤 🤤

POST 38Original post

the only way to do it - ALL IN!!! Stunning colour, nice bits going in - and look at all that aftermarket goodness!!!! ♥️

POST 39 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Given that the wife would go balistic if I actually purchased a RUF ... I thought I would make a half way decent interpretation.

POST 40Original post

This is a very special car. Nice work, love your committment.

POST 46Original post

Care to share some engine specs or is it hush hush?

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, About the engine, well I will let a few details out: 964 Case Heads sent to Brian Pauter (USA) for large inlet valves, CNC ported (inlet only, leave exhaust side) Pauter Billet Rocker Arms + Elephant Foot Adjusters (see: https://pauter.com/parts/rockers/porsche/ ) Pauter Conrods - Length is secret. 48mm ITB - new product modelled on RSR items (brand about to be launched, so I will not reveal here) - photo attached 997 GT-3 Crank LN Engineering ("nickies") barrels Cases machined to 109mm to accept larger barrels Motec M150 engine management Drive-By-Wire throttles (twin motors, 1 per side) That oughta do for now, I will post a few other photos over the next week or so as the engine is being built now. Targetting over 360Hp

POST 48Original post

Mark this is looking mega...Sub'd. About to commence a build on a UK import C2, can't wait to get cracking.  Suspect I may not have your luck with rust... Juz

POST 49 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Juz, Check for rust: a) windscreen and rear screen lower corners (usual spots) + b) inside rear wheel wells, leading edge where the inner guard meets the outside skin.  There is a mastic there that traps water over time and can cause problems (hard to get to and detect + remedy). I will be able to update further late next week. Cheers

POST 50Original post

Mega mint thing you're doing here Mark! Love the colour too. Way better than what you were delivered. It's going to be epic!

POST 51 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Build still grinding on ... Should have a further update in about 3 weeks. Thank you all for your kind words and engagement with this crazy passion we have for P cars.

POST 52 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Time to post a few more little snapshots & update you all on the progres. Car is now at Prostitch (Sydney) for the interior fit out and installation of the new Recaro Pole Position Classic Pepita seats.  (See attached).  Car should be finished during late March - at least with interior. The engine is now awaiting the return of the trimmed body, so I had better reveal a couple of photos of my "little" 4.0 litre. Thanks for watching and I promise to update when further progress is made.

POST 53Original post

I’m so impressed mate, this car is amazing 😃

POST 54Original post

Quotes source post: 375671

Nice project … just a small drift, is that an Elephant 993 suspension kit being fitted to the white car in the background ?

POST 56 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oz - Yes regarding the Elephant racing front on white car ... it is also getting a T T 993 motor mounted.

POST 58 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yet again the wheels of restomod move somewhat slowly. The car is in with my trimmer (and he has plenty of work on) so the best update I can provide is a sneak preview of the interior. Work Done to date: 1. All interior sound deadening removed and replaced with "DynaMat" 2. Headling replaced (white / grey) original Porsche perforated material 3. Wiring and placement for sub-woofer + new Focal speakers + SQR46 new bluetooth radio 4. Glass In 5. Carpet started cutting, edging and laying - Porsche Silverknit 6. Console mofifications commenced (to accomodate CAE Shifter) Attached are acouple of not so sexy photos, but I am sure you get the idea (note 2nd photo - 993 photo is from a US car). Engine, Gearbox and all otehr mechanicals are fully done and standing by for return of car (post trimming). Cheers for now

POST 59Original post

Only just stumbled upon this build. Stunning work Mark and love the Amazon Green! There aren't enough green sports cars out there in my humble opinion. Looking forward to reading about the progress.

POST 60Original post

Hey can you update us on the progress with pics

POST 61 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK Lads - crafting an interior takes some time, and I can now report that interior is finished. Car heading back to Corse Automotive for mechanical install, tuning & commissioning. A HUGE Thank You to Prostitch Motor Trimming for a sensational job. Interior was to remain a 964, with some modern enhancements and simplification. We avoided the RS door card theme and created a unique arm rest, door pull, modern speaker style of our own.  Full leather - door cards, door capping, dashboard, 964 Rear Seat Delete (genuine), sub woofer (concealed) ... the list extends further as well. I include below a few photos, as I intend to have the car professionally photographed when the build is complete. Cheers for now.

POST 62Original post

Looks sensational and can’t wait to meet up and see / hear it go soon.    I love the colour coded seat backs, nice touch. Who put the 1 km on it 🤣 ?

POST 63Original post
