Just an FYI the 2008 caymans are pre-wired for the CD changer and have the fiber optic cable already ran from the boot to behind the head unit.

He set the phone down and I heard him ask for the number of hurley automotive and then his conversation and then he got back on the line and quoted me $600.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Search for cdc-4 on ebay.
It goes in the front trunk under the plastic panel in front of the battery cover.
You will need the mounting bracket and nuts/bolts and a fiber optic cable which will vary depending on if you have BOSE and or Nav. The power supply cable is already installed but tucked away to one side. I did the install in about 1-2 hours. Probaly the hardest part is getting to the main fiber optic connector which is behind the brake master cylinder, the rest is pretty simple.
i was quoted almost 900 for Cd changer with installation. Have not done it yet.

I was told by my dealer that some Caymans are prewired, and some are not regarding 07's, not sure if this is really true, but that is what they said.
The cost to install it is around $1k, but I would just get an ipod system installed for less than that.
I wound up dishing out about $700 for it after some hefty negotiating. I was told (beside the bracket fiber optic cable and so on) that the radio had to be programed to accept the cd. In other word it was not just a plug and play scenario. Is this the case or was this an attempt by the dealer to make me have the radioinstalled there not that I would have had it done somewhere ealse the price was good I thought
Hi,
I recently purchased a cdc-4 on Ebay and now have to install same. I am of the understanding from previous posts on this tread that there are only 2 electrical connections to be made as my car is a 2008 Cayman S with Nav & Bose. Anyone that can point me to somewhere on this site with additional information (IPB, wiring schematic) on this install that would be greatly appreciated. I am admittedly ignorant of most things electronic so I tend to be very cautious approaching such things.
I am not even sure of the the proper location for the cdc-4 for my car, of course I know it is installed in the front bonnet near the Nav Unit. HELP !
Would anyone be kind enough if he or she knows, to inform me as to the difference between Porsche P/N 996.645.140.02 and P/N 997.645.140.02 ? Are they interchangeable ?
Thank You In Advance
CD INSTALL FROM HBL PORSCHE OF TYSONS BEYOND A RIP-OFF
called "mike" of service yesterday to ask the price of install of the o.e.m. cdc-4 that I got of ebay along with all of the mounting parts. Told him this and that basically all porsche service had to do was install and program the head unit which is the basic non bose system. He set the phone down and I heard him ask for the number of hurley automotive and then his conversation and then he got back on the line and quoted me $600. I thanked him and then I called Hurleys which does most of HBL's Install. $200 for the install and $65 to run it over to HBL for the Head Unit Program.. GUESS WHO is doing the work. If I wanted to pay out the nose I would not have joined the PCA, joined this website, particpated in group buys etc. I expect to pay fair or a little below fair market value for everything not to get it where it hurts. and oh yea the wallet too.

Intersport Performance
So we dropped the cayman off for the cdc install at Hurley's this morning. THEY ARE RIGHT NEXT TO Intersport Performance. Heads up to anybody getting their very expensive porsche serviced at Intersport Performance..... the poter who moves the cars in and out of the bays for storage, fires up the cars, burns out, drives at speed over the speed bumps and then repeats this over and over until all cars are moved. must have seen at least 5 air cooled 911's, a water cooled gt-3, and other late model porsches and many other cars get abused with with the less that 5 second warm up and then way all kinds of drive train and supension abuse.:helpme::helpme:. MAN I WILL NEVER NEVER HAVE MY CAR SERVICED THERE.
Re: Intersport Performance
When I got my CS, I inquired as to the cost of a changer. My car came with Bose & PCM, but no changer, just the single disk. I thought that the changer would have been plug N play, e.g. install it in the trunk, connect the wires, and it's done. But NOoooo. The service guy put my VIN into the computer to see what it would require. The computer knows what came on my car. He listed a couple of different wiring adapters that I needed. Those adapters (at full dealer mark-up), plus the changer (at full dealer mark-up), and the labor (at full dealer rates) totalled $1,500. It took me about a nano-second to make my decision. Can you guess what it was?
What's up with this? Why were the adapters needed?
At the time, I was unaware that the CD player would play MP3 CD's. Once I learned that (probably from this forum), I burned three MP3 CD's (one for the player and two for the storage compartments). I have more than 40 CD's worth of music on those three CD's. Turns out that is a better solution than the changer anyways.
