You overtook me!
Hi Guys,
Thanks for sending me the new software. Unfortunately, my laptop was stolen by scum baggage handlers at JFK. Sorry I didn't get back to you, can't wait to try out the new software.
Thanks for the follow up!
Michael H
What are the changes?
Thanks,
Matt Merritt
Never mind:
Here's what was downloaded:
v. 2.08
=======
New features:
------------
- BMW: In non-MP3 capable BMW cars, if no CD Changer fitted, GW500 can be used to allow the BMW
diagnostic computer to enable the CD changer in the ring.
- Instant bypass switch action: No need to turn off/on the car in order to have effect on the by-pass
switch change. Action takes about 5 seconds, and breaks the MOST ring in order to restart
configuration.
- BTA: If volume issues are present, update the configuration settings. Download the config file on a
USB key from Dension’s website, connect it to the GW500 and start up.
Cerberus Helpdesk :: Support Center
- <UNKNOWN>': item has been added as the first item in the track list of the ‘Scan Artist’ and ‘Scan
Albums’ submenu which contains all the undefined ID3 items.
Modifications:
-------------
- iPod display: modified due to the limitations of new iPod Nano3 and Classic v1.0.3 firmwares. While
iPod is playing Dension logo is displayed on the iPod screen.
- iPod welcome screen changed to a single page, containing "DENSION", "www.dension.com", version
number and service tag.
- BTA: Name of disc 1 changed from ‘Pairing’ to ‘BT Setup’.
Bug fixes:
---------
- Random/Repeat: handling on Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche the Shuffle/Repeat settings were
lost when device was re-connected and when tracks were changed by the user.
- ‘Loading’ state: freezing bug fixed.
- Audi: Track 1 freezing on Audi MMI Basic (monochrome) fixed.
- Mercedes: FM radio issue fixed. (Comand APS NTG1) At source change, head unit displayed the CDChanger
text but was controlling the FM radio.
- After selecting AUX or IPOD_UI source, the head unit did not take it into account. Fixed.
- BTA: ‘Disconnect’ menu item was not working properly. Fixed.
- Nokia 6300's media player could get frozen by BTA. Fixed.
- Some Bluetooth devices disconnect and reconnect between track changes, which caused unwanted
operation of the head unit display. Fixed.
- The media player of the Bluetooth device only connects when it is selected as an audio source on the
GW500 menu. (Unlike the handsfree which always connects)
Known limitation:
----------------
- BMW mp3: 1&3 Series with professional head unit browser handles a limited number of subdirectories
only, firmware update of BMW system is recommended.
Known Bug:
---------
- Audi: When switching from GW to CDC or FM the track position is not kept.
Anyone using CDR24 tries this update yet? Any problems?
Firmware v 2.08 is definitely better than 2.05. No longer have issues of not remembering where iPod last was and jumping to the first alphabetical song of the thousands on my iPod, or jumping to the "random" mode. This is despite GW500 being connected to switched power. Menus themselves are the same. Not sure, but I think the battery drain issue for 80/160GB iPod Classics may be resolved... I'll find out in the morning as I left the iPod attached. In the iPod UI mode, it actually indicates it's charging, though not in GW UI mode. I don't think the backlight used to turn off in GW UI mode, and now it does. Song info also appears to update on iPod in GW UI mode.
Can now verify that the battery drain issue with iPod Classic is resolved! Had full charge after sitting overnight connected to GW500.
2.08 is MUCH better. The update went smoothly and less issues. If I change the track sequence setting, it doesn't restart the music. Now if I could find a way to skip back to the front of the song without going forward and back. Thanks for all your hard work. Of course, I'd love to see a schedule with the potential features you keep telling us about
Is the upgrade worth doing for a CDR24, or are the benefits mainly realizable w/ the PCM?
If you have issues with the play mode changing or play list changing when you connect your iPod, then it's worth trying. Also if you have a newer iPod with battery drain issues, the update should fix (though as noted above haven't verified if the resolution was due to the recent firware upgrades of the Dension or of the iPod or a combination). If no problems, then no reason to update as the menus, etc are unchanged.
One bug that has crept in: When I use the the phone (BTA1000) and am in the iPod GW mode, ending the call causes the current playlist to start over again from the top rather than pick up where it was last playing. Doesn't happen in iPod UI mode, just iPod GW mode.
BTW just tried this update and once again it doesn't go as the instructions say.
I copy the ROM to my thumb drive
I turn on car ignition
I turn on radio/PCM and switch to the ipod
Song from ipod starts playing
I plug in the thumb drive to the Dension 500 unit, light on thumb drive lights up
Song plays for about another 20 seconds then stops
PCM unit display changes
display on ipod changes first to a check mark then showing some serial number then the Dension logo (without rom version btw)
PCM displays GW AUX and shows track 1 and starts counting up seconds
No audio buttons such as FFW, etc. make any difference in PCM display
I go to radio and come back, still the same.
I turn PCM off
I turn ignition off
Take key out
Wait 2 minutes
Put key in, turn on ignition
Turn on PCM
Same display GW AUX (showing disk 5)
No sound from iPod, radio works fine.
I check under hood and light it out on thumdrive
I remove thumb drive and bring in house to check for ROM file
ROM file is gone as it should be
I type this message.
What I am going to do next is remove the power to th Dension 500 unit and plug it back into power to see if that reboots it and causes it to work successfully.
Wish me luck!
Well unplugging the Dension unit from power did NOT solve the problem
The display still read GW AUX and showing CD 5, could not change cd or go up and down lists or anything.
So I unplug the ipod
I navigate to a song on the ipod and start playing it
I plug the ipod back in
I get the check mark followed by logo
And lo and behold the PCM display now shows the song I am playing and everything works again.
So although the instructions don't tell me to disconnect and reconnect my ipod evidently for me it is necessary. I brought the ipod in the house so I could check firmware on it with itunes.
In the About screen it says Version 1.2.1 now, going to attach to itunes and see what happens...
Nothing wrong there.
At the first 20 seconds the ROM file is loaded to the Gateway, then it reboots (that's why the display changes.)
The check mark means that the communication with the iPod is established.
The "GW AUX" text means that the Auxilary inputs of Gateway is selected (this is the default source after FW upgrade).
To select different source (iPod in your case) just go to Disc 6 / Source and press SeekFw on iPodGW text. Or you can also disconnect and reconnect iPod, because the "newest" source will be selected automatically. These methods are written in the Manual.
But you are right in that, it's not mentioned anywhere, that the default source may change after SW upgrade.
The instructions didn't say that this was more likely to happen if "Rush" was currently playing
GW 500: I was looking for the link to the config file for the BTA volume improvement, mentioned in the FW documentation. Has it been removed from the Support Site?
Jeff
The update still completely discharges my ipod classic when the car is off, it then doesn't recognize it at the next drive until it gets about 15 minutes of charging. But at least now I don't have to reset the ipod manually each time it discharges.
Have a brand new Dension GW 500 sitting on my dining room table. (delivered in record time from bumperplugs.com, thanks. Heck Eric even sent me an email with the latest firmware.) While reading over the various threads / articles trying to decide exactly how I am going to install it I came across one of the modifications in Firmware 2.08:
Modifications:
-------------
- iPod display: modified due to the limitations of new iPod Nano3 and Classic v1.0.3 firmwares. While iPod is playing Dension logo is displayed on the iPod screen.
This leads to my question: with one of the newer iPod Nano3’s (or the new iPod touch for that matter) will I be able to use the iPod interface directly when I chose? I was thinking about installing it such that the iPod will be within reach while driving so that I can use it’s interface when I want vice being stuck using only the CDR24’s interface. (For reference I have the CDR24 Bose sound system w/o a CD Changer.)
Along those lines: What kind of experience have you all had with the Dension unit and the new iPod Nano3 or Touch’s?
Thanks
Have you updated your iPod lately? Apple told us this was resolved.
Email me with any issues, please.
[email removed]
I just updated to 2.08 and it seemed to go fine. The iPod displayed v2.08 at restart. Have not seen it in subsequent restarts but I assume it is there.
I have the CDR24/Bose and can NOT get it to allow me to use the iPod interface. I suspect this is user error, but no matter which "disc" I select, I just see the check mark, and the iPod disk/buttons don't work.
Can some one say simply how to set the CDR24 to default to using the iPod controls? Something like:
1) Connect iPod.
2) Select CD "6" (or whatever is correct)
3) While on 6, select track 99 (again, correct me where I'm wrong.)
4) Use the iPod wheel to select songs to your heart's content but still pay attention to your driving.
Jeffhay,
The seek FW button the cdr24 is a softkey; it's the black . button under the part of the screen that will show >>. Or, if it shows >>|, you can hold it for three seconds and it will do the same thing.
- Suneet
I found the >> button by hitting the Menu button. It still does not change to the ipod UI. That seems like 4 simple steps. How is this not working for me?
Tree's ala Rush is soooo Cayman
No joy. I do the following but the ipod UI is still locked
1. Connect iPod - Either playing a song or not.
2. Select CD 6 - reverts to CD 5, track 99 after a few seconds
3. Select Track 3 - If I manage to get it to stay on CD 6, track 3 I
4. Apply Seek FW on that item - Hit Menu on the CDR24 to get to the soft >> button and then hit it. The ipod UI is still locked.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a factory reset I can do or something? Does 2.08 even allow the use of the ipod UI?
Gateway 500 v2.10 FW just released!

This version has the iPod UI as factory default mode. Of course you should be able to change that.
Maybe a short video can help us to find out what's wrong with your configuration/handling.
v. 2.10
=======
New Features:
-------------
- The new BTA1500 Bluetooth accessory is supported in the following car audio systems:
- Audi Basic and High MMI
- BMW 1/3/5/6/X5 up to model year 2007, up to V28 Progman
- Porsche with PCM 1/2/2.1 head unit, where Phone button exists

Modifications:
--------------
- Default iPod GW Interface mode changed to iPod User Interface mode. iPod Disconnection and reconnection 3 times

iPod welcome screen appears showing the software version, car configuration and service tag information.
- Text configuration menu can be accessed by selecting AUX GW device and pressing Seek Forward for at least 10 seconds.
Further information please visit
Cerberus Helpdesk :: Support Center
- When you quit from the Menu with SeekBW (seek backwards), it always returns to the default disc (Disc 5) instead
of the previously selected disc.
- When the audio device is connected to the GW500 and it is in pause mode, it will be forced into play mode on the
last selected track if menu is initiated.
Bug fix:
--------
- BTA: Improved operation with Symbian 9.1 phones.
- Audi: ìWhen switching from GW to CDC or FM the track position is not kept.î bug is not an issue with the head units containing recent Audi MMI firmware (3460,4220).
- Volvo: Text configuration was not set automatically, needed manual setting. Fixed
- Porsche: PCM head unit stuck on Track 1 of Disc 5 when iPod UI or BTA source was selected. Fixed.
Known limitation:
-----------------
- BMW mp3: 1&3 Series with professional head unit browser handles a limited number of subdirectories,
firmware update of BMW system is recommended from manufacturer.
I will have to try 2.10 but as an FYI using 2.08 it ran down the battery in my Ipod last week to where my ipod was dead and it had never done that on any previous version of the software.
Must be the yellow paint sucking the battery life out of the iPod. No such problems with my iPhone, iPod, or Nano.
As an FYI sometime the battery on my iPod classic (60gb version) runs down and I have to drive around for 10-15 minutes until it has enough juice to come back and then starts functioning fine. This is on the latest firmware for the Dension and for the iPod. After driving to Atlanta the unit hasn't done it again, but now the car has sat for a week so I am curious if it is still charged or not and will check later today. Anyone else still having this problem?
One other thing I note, if I am listening to one of my playlists and then shut off the car and come back say a few days later, the playlist is no longer selected, it is just playing random songs off my ipod, I have to go back through the menus and select the playlist I want again. A minor irritation for sure, but just wondered why that happens?
