Hey everyone, I am trying to complete a base sound system upgrade in a 997 GT3, but am trying to confirm if the CDR24 outputs a clean unequalized signal on it's speaker outputs. I read a thread where Suneet mentioned that it EQs down the bass and treble at higher volumes to protect the speakers. Can anyone confirm that or know more details about this?
The system I am compiling should be applicable to the Cayman as well as they are similar. The plan is to use the CDR24 to provide the line level signal to a JL HD600/4 amp mounted under the passenger seat. The amp will provide 150 watts to each of the front speakers, and 300 watts mono to a 8" subwoofer. For chassis balance, the subwoofer is a heavily modified Reus kickpanel enclosure mounted to the right of the center console.
The Reus enslosure is a well constructed and designed enclosure, upolstered with Silverknit carpet, but it has some limitations. The 8" sub that it comes with bottoms out under high power so a replacement was needed. The internal volume is only 0.22 cf, with a max speaker mounting depth of 3.4". Using BassBox Pro, an Image Dynamics ID8 D2 v.3 was chosen to deliver high SPL, with a x-max of 15mm one way, but has a mounting depth of 4.6". To increase the enclosure's mounting depth, a 6" diameter hole was cut out of the 1/2" thick fiberboard backside where the magnet would protrude, and a 1" deep dished metal plate was bolted and sealed to the rear to provide a net 5" clearance. Dacron fiberfill was used at a rate of 1.5 lbs/cf to increase effective internal volume. Part of the enclosure by the leg was reformed to improve ergonomics. Net result is 15 lbs, and a pretty loud, clean, tight, and hard hitting sub,
The rest of the plan is to drive a center channel with a factory Bose center speaker off the head unit, and depending on how the stock speakers turn out, maybe change out the dash/door speakers with the up coming Focal 165KR component system with it's inverted dome Kevlar neodymium tweeter.
But I do notice some limitations with the setup and am trying to determine if it's because of the head unit. The speaker balance also seems right side biased by 3 db. So, any input is appreciated.
