I have plenty of the options such as dimming mirrors, rain sensor, heated seats and such but would like to have the passenger mirror dip on reverse, I know there is a module which has this as just one of it's functions but I don't really need all it offers.
Does anyone know of another way of getting this function added, I can open/close windows on the key remote. So is there something different between UK & US spec' cars.
That's part of the seat memory function at least for '08 in the US. The mirror control has to be switched to the passenger side to enable the dip.
I should add that at least the ability to set where it dips to is part of the memory. Don't know for sure if the memory is needed just to get the mirror to dip down.
This function, I believe, is a feature of the Adaptive Sports Seats. I wonder if it can be added after market? Like most additions it may be prohibitively expensive and since each electrical harness is custom made for each C/CS, it may not be possible to add it.
No in the US it was combined with an option package of other items. Had nothing to do with Adaptive Sports Seats.
Mine dips. I just have Preferred Package Plus. Power seats but no sport or adaptive.
My information was based upon the site and my search.
The Cayman Club - FAQ: Cayman Options
Is this information correct?
It was so difficult to get accurate information on the CS when it first came out that the salesmen were practically useless when it came to understanding options. I was glad when I found the CC site and the wealth of information presented.
You
do not
have to have the adaptive seats to get the mirror function. The FAQ doesn't say that you do it just says it is one of the features of that seat. The FAQ is correct.
Didn't see that you had a Cayman in the registry. Still looking?
You get the passenger-side mirror dip when you have either of the power seat options - that's the regular power seats or the adaptive sport seats. As mentioned, the power seats can also be part of the preferred package plus... there is no difference in this regard between the US and UK spec. The only way I know of to get it if you have either of the manual seat options like I do (manual sport seats) is the module from
Mods 4 Cars
. I got it
only
for the passenger mirror dip function, and the horn beep on locking came along with it. I know it does a lot of other stuff, but I've honestly never learned to use them - I've never put it into "stealth" mode when taking the car in for service, and I've never heard anything from the dealership about it being on the car. If you like that feature (I had it on my 996TT, and missed it), I'd recommend it.

Merlin,
In the U.S. (at least), the passenger mirror move for reverse is part of Park Assist. Didn't know it was activated with any other option, such as Adaptive Sport Seats.
P.S. The "GB" icon is usually meant for "Group Buy" not "Great Britain".
Thanks for the various replies and Stephen for the GB info
According to the Drivers Manual ( UK ) it's part of the power seat package but I'll try to find out if it can be programmed in on the Park Assist, seems more logical that it should be on that.
Sometimes things can be brought into operation so I'll check with a non-franchised workshop I know.:thanks::burnout:
I have a European spec 987S with electric memory seats (not the sports adaptive). I have had the passenger mirror replaced under warranty so perhaps can shed some light on this issue. The standard passenger mirror has a 4 wire connection, the cars fitted with the dipping passenger mirrors or rain sensing / rear dipping mirror function have a 6 wire system. This is because an extra sensor is required to memorise the position of the mirror so it can return after the mirror selector knob is rotated or the car drives forward. I had the wrong mirror base on my car and it would dip but not return to its original position. I suspect this is what happens with the smart top device.
