Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Paul is correct. They did the 968CS in both hand drives.
However, in England they also introduced the poncified 'Sport' variant of the 968CS, to sell alongside the Club Sport. This had a few of the CS goodies, but without the hardcore seats and with some rear seats, plus all manner of gaylord electronics such as electric windows and central locking. Sell out or what?
This model outsold the CS AFAIK, which is why you don't see many 968CSs in RHD...
LOL
Aircon is a moot point - I would normally put it in the girlie camp, but it is an Ultima 'comfort' option that everyone recommends you have, even the hardcore. So that must make it OK. I think
CS was the budget end of the range when the 968 was in production, this was too compete on price with audi s2 & m3 etc,,,
As there were so few tricks on the basic car you rarely find one that is totally standard. Most owners started to specify elctric windows etc. so the sport came out.
of course some owners went the other way and specced lsd.m030 brakes & suspension.
i am a little worried now as I am currently looking for a "Sport" version but also in rhd,,I really hope I do not start paying attention to mens appearances etc.because of this.
One thing that has always wound me up with 968 CS,is that it is supposedly a track orientated car..in fact as good as they are, they were a cheap marketing tool for porsche. The thing that shows that most is that I rarely see one without the heavy sunroof fitted, this is surely not great in terms of raising the centre of gravity on a track car.
Anyone got one without an electric sunroof.....now Dom if they is not a bit suspect in a track car what is?
Both Scottster and I are sunroof-less, thank you very much.
I've got the M030 LSD as well so I'm at least a third of a real man.
There's nothing wrong with cheap marketing tools, look at the 356 speedster
Me, for example. Aircon is an essential IMHO though (and only adds 17kg, fairly low down)
They come with a subscrption to 'attitude'
Did have, 'til some &*^% crashed into it
Yup, Herman and I are hard as nails, sunroof-less, iron bar eating, Chelsea head-hunting hard ba$tards....
(ps: I think he likes to wear girlies underwear at the weekends tho while he's playing with his 'essential' air con - in fact, wasn't that lighter you chucked at Tierry Henry pink?
)
Disclaimer: That was of course a little Friday morning joke for all the sensitive souls, Me H or I don't advocate the tossing of anything whilst enjoying the otherwise fine atmosphere of another good battering by the Arse)
One 968CS owner I spoke to who has had his car from new says the dealer was convinced he would never be able to sell it on without a sun roof. Mine, which I bought second hand, does have a sun roof and while it does let you get a bit more air through the car I'd still prefer not to have it at all.
Martin
Well, CS, in a CS
(I've been dying to write that), a sunroof is definitely a girlie gadget. Not just the weight, but the structural rigidity of cutting a hole in the roof... I imagine more CSs are unsold these days for HAVING one. The M030 pack would virtually guarantee resale these days.
Also, air con is not so desirable despite weighing only 17kgs, because it takes power from the engine through its naughty little pulley. Bad air con.
Admittedly, this may only be one or two bhp, but hey, it's not like the 968CS is overpowered.
I am not against the 968 Sport per se - I quite like them - but I class them in the 'sensible car' camp, rather than the 'nutter bastard car' camp. If I didn't need better accommodation or a v8 engine note from a second car, I would prefer a 968 Sport to my current 3 series.
That said, we can overlook mrsd's prediliction for creature comforts in her 968CS as 1) ages ago when jarel was on these forums, I nearly ended up purchasing said car; and 2) she is a laydee after all (although notice how jond and mrsd never post simulataneuosly - either one computer between them or are they one and the same?... mrsd does know an awful lot about nice cars
).
All the best
Domster
One or two bhp - bugger that mate, I'd be surprised if air con took less than 20bhp when in full flow - you'd be amased how sluggish they feel with it running. That said, you can always hit the button on the dash to turn it off, not that tricky really and then the 17kgs is only a small matter.
Domster, forgot you were having air con, bloody wimp - I thought that after your postings you'd be trying to prove the Ultima boyz that it was poss to run one without this luxuary!!
If you're pressing on or on a trackday you don't exactly need the aircon (and the weight is trivial), but we used to drive the 968 to Tescos making it an essential IMO.
Interesting. What was the bhp of the 968CS. My Boxster S has only 260bhp and I can't say you can tell whether or not the Aircon is running.
I once drive a Ford Laser (Escort style Australian car) which had aircon (essential in Aus). When it came on the whole car juddered and slowed to a crawl. BHP? Not sure it had one....
When I was looking for my car (ended up with a RHD CS with sunroof), I must have looked at/enquired about 30+ cars. Of them every RHD had a sunroof and every LHD didn't. I assumed Porsche never tooled up to produce non-sunroof RHD 968 shells and wasn't going to bother for a few CS's. Cue lots of replies from non-sunroof RHD owners, but I've never seen one.
They're 240 bhp by the way.
Yeah, they are 240bhp. I'd love to know the loss by turning the air con on. Even if the compressor isn't turned on, the belt is still connected to the system and causing friction, shurely?
Interesting regarding RHD 968s always having sunroofs. I suspect that 'closed roof' examples do exist, but this requires some research... must dig out old road tests etc.
Sorry to cast aspersions mrsd
Got to admit that the 'clark kent/superman never being seen in the same place at the same time' rule was starting to apply to you and jon, though
Sunroof must have been a standard fitment on CS's for the UK market, but available as a delete option ? My car has no comfort bits and no option codes at all on the build spec sticker in the boot, but it has a sunroof. This would explain why nearly all RHD CS's have sunroofs but nowt else. Knowing Porsche, you probably had to pay extra not to have one. Maybe someone has an original brochure ? I'd be interested to know.

The owner I mentioned before has no sunroof. He has had a fair few mods done, e.g. turbo-s front and rear spoiler, plastic bonnet, etc.
My car has a number of option codes listed in the service book : C16 030 220 418 451 561 650
It's speed yellow without the club sport logo on the side.

i just bought a 968 Sport, picking it up next week, got it from cridfords in ripley but i saw the car previously when it was for sale privately in croydon (clubsport may remember this one)
it was an impulse buy (testdrove it twice for a fair amount of time)tho now i feel i should have got a PPI inspection as well, its had a lot of work done in the last service 2000 miles ago (brakes, chains/belts), time will tell i guess
thought about a CS, but ive heard the seats dont adjust enough for the taller driver (6"3)
ive also heard that the optional CS suspension is a bit too stiff for a road car/daily driver and that theres a difference of 50kg between the luxury spec Coupe and the CS, so probably about 20/30kg difference for the Sport (half the soundproofing put back and not all of the electrics put back)
as far as i know the Sport has the "standard" CS suspension, brakes and steering rack, tho obviously not the MO30 spec ones, is this true?
Nice car Coupe man I hope you got a good deal on the car or a super warranty on it.The car went for under £13k from the Croydon guy in the end I beleive...
What made you buy it a month later from a dealer for more money than it was privately???
Nice car though I hope you enjoy it.
I am still looking for one.have you seen the silver 31k miles car for sale privately for £18,500....top money!
cheers clubsport, i was silly to buy the 1st car i really saw, ony driven a 100k mile coupe as well!
also know i could have gotten it loads cheaper if i had bought it privately, but like i said just didnt have the confidence to buy privately, the car has a 3 months warranty from cridfords and the 1 year RAC plan covered by them as well tho thats hardly worth the near 2k extra i paid for "peace of mind",
live and learn i guess, if it proves a good car i wont mind personally
theres a few small exterior mods (side indicators, rusty tailpipe) i want to do already, but there were no problems felt in the 2 testdrives
hope i dont have bad news a few weeks in but its still cheaper and probably a more interesting buy than what i was looking at (2nd hand S3, e36 m3, Mcoupe)
expect loads of posts here from a 1st time porsche owner
cheers
The next week until you get it will be one of the longest of your life,it will more than make up for it when you are out driving.
Don't get me wrong about my questioning buying from the dealer, just seemed a little different approach thats all.
Personally I much prefer to buy privately as you get to meet the previous owner to see his opinions and how well they looked after the car.
Each to his own...I am still looking in a passive way.
Look forward to your reports on your new car.
Looks like 9m will be adding a Speed Yella 968CS into our ongoing project shop soon. Could not resist a LHD in the best colour with no woofter aircon or sunroof. Just don't tell the wife lads, ok?
I think you'll find that most of us prefer the RS style of Maritime Blue. No excuses for the air con, I'm afraid. It'll be handy on the Cote D'Azur this summer though.
You only got yellow cause of your "Napoleon" complex and your desire to be noticed

CoupeMan, is yours the one advertised in Autotrader? Ad looks like this:
PORSCHE 968 SPORT 1995/M jet black, black cloth, power steering, abs, electric sunroof, 17 cup alloys, cd player, full Porsche service history, 66,000 miles £14995.
Only ask since I'm still looking around and was quite tempted by the sound of that one...
Bit like the BMW E30 M3 - was the 968CS never available in RHD form? A friend asked me and I had to confess I didn't know, even though all the CS's I've ever seen have been LHD.
