They would also check whether the bodywork warranty is intact which would be void if it has had any unofficial repairs outside the OPC network so unapproved.

Have you seen it in the flesh? Because the photos are terrible. Not sure the real colour is anywhere near that of the photos.
I think it’s a great looking motor.
Looks great, that Miami Blue photo is over exposed.
Tremendously quick car for the money. With Porsche jacking their prices up yet again this week and 10% inflation on the cards, with the two year lead times on new I’d be snapping that one up in an instant…
I had a Miami Blue Cayman and now have a Miami Blue Boxster S.
That looks a great car good spec and at a decent (by current levels) price.
Be rude not to.
Miami is rather marmite as a colour but generally sells ok but be aware the insipid grey interior is not as good as black with Miami which will put many potential buyers off.
Has the car a proper Porsche history?
Any Porsche warranty?
How many owners?

Are you talking of getting checked physically? As HPI check did not record the car as stolen or write off (from insurance records). Their cars are RAC/AA approved and come with 6 month of AA/RAC warranty
I would be inclined to request the car is inspected at an OPC with a view to placing an official Porsche warranty on it especially bearing in mind you say it has a full Porsche history. They would also check whether the bodywork warranty is intact which would be void if it has had any unofficial repairs outside the OPC network so unapproved.
If the dealer refuses then this would sound alarm bells and I would find another car.
This is a good way of testing the dealer and their confidence or lack of it in the car they are selling.
The car is not particularly cheap ££ btw.
Being a turbo'd motor, and not at an OPC, I'd be wanting to know if it's had a remap. That might explain why it's out of the OPC network, and I think it might also prevent you or anyone else ever putting the Porsche extended warranty on it.
Definitely worth getting a PPI if you're seriously interested in it.

Are Porsches that unreliable that the manufacturer’s warranty is almost a must
My current BMW M6 costs me about £87/month with £250.00 excess (the best rate for the former approved used). I have been paying this for almost 2 years now without any warranty claim. I am beginning to question whether it is worth it.

For balance perhaps best to ask this on a GR Yaris forum.
Warranty discussion will go on and on, at £660 a year i personally think the official warranty is good value and if you need to claim they do seem to pay out unlike other third party providers as documented on these forums. Caveat this with always keeping it in the opc network and using only Porsche parts, not cheap…
If you’re not doing much mileage it’s probably less of an issue.

No warranty/insurance is worth having, unless you need to claim on it.
Cars are generally much more reliable nowadays but they are also a lot more complicated than they used to be, the way the cost of parts and labour have gone in recent years, particularly on more upmarket cars, it would not take much to go wrong to make the warranty worth having.

For me, the warranty is far from a must and I don't bother with them. However, I have a fairly new car and do limited miles per year.
The vast majority of people do run with the warranty though, it seems to be a Porsche owner thing.
Looks lovely in the pictures.
Love the two tone interior.
Less reflections in the screen from the black top dash? I drove a car with a beige dash and it was awful.

I ran a 981 CS for 6yrs always with extended warranty. 2 yrs warrant, £1190.
Sport Chrono brings dynamic transmission mounts. A failure of one of those… this:
£1500 without a warranty. I had 2 fail. 1 exhaust actuator/vacuums unit replaced. Lastly, exhaust flap on left bank jammed which meant a replacement exhaust for that side. I was expecting a big bill. No, the warranty cover that too. I was amazed to be honest. I get some are more than happy to run without a warranty but for me it was peace of mind. The main reason was if the PDK went south but never had an issue with that.

Yep, PADM mounts are the main issue if you have Chrono and £1500-ish is the OPC replacement price. An Indy could do it a bit cheaper, plus the exhaust flap fault could potentially have been repaired rather than replacing the whole exhaust.
If you're always planning on using an OPC then the warranty makes perfect sense. If you know a good Indy, then it's a bit less clear cut IMHO.

the 911 and 987 don't have that join. Seems an ill-considered approach they took on the rear wings join lines after the 987.

Yes. BMW insured warranty obviously more expensive than the Porsche’s. It is even less tenable with a mileage of less than 4000 miles per year.

As soon as I saw that comment I knew it would be Miami blue. It's distinctive, but it's not the shade in the picture, to be sure.

The response so far on GR Yaris forum is that as good as GR Yaris is, it cannot match the mid engine dynamic of the Cayman

This may be radical out of the box thinking but have you considered driving and looking at both for yourself and then making your own mind up?
Or would you rather be influenced by a load of people you don't know from Adam who may/may not know anything about cars and are almost certainly biased one way or another?
It is a lot of money to spend on a car, does it really matter what anyone else thinks?
LamedonM said:

No, especially the "cheaper" versions like that. Although as others have pointed out, the occasional 4-figure bill needs to be allowed for, just in case.
For an idea of how much abuse a modern porker will take, try running it flat out for two hours at a time……

Porsche owners are a crazy bunch
It's a six year old S for £47k. Any ideas on original list price with the options?
I recall in 2015 I was looking at TWO year old S Caymans for around £40k. I recall one with just about every conceivable option for that money. I think its list price was £77k.
Seems prices have held incredibly well since then. Although comparatively expensive now at £47k it could mean the depreciation will be very slow.

Would you guys think, this other car would be a better buy (it might have OPF affecting exhaust sounds and no PTV (differential, no LED man light and no 18 way seat, no seat ventilation), but it is newer, with less mileage and has Porsche extended warranty:

Probably but I would take the view that unless you truly know your cars and the potential pitfalls the risk of buying from a smaller indie and possibly an OPC rejected car is greater than the premium you would pay for an OPC car.
Yes there are decent non OPC cars around but in my experience these are few and far between.
Of course do bear in mind there are good and bad OPCs too.

Yep if you love plastic then this is the one to go for. The first one you posted had the extended leather dash/doors. This second one has the Fisher Price option. It looks cheap and natty.

Not to mention all those blanks, eh Julian.
OP it’s pretty pointless asking which one is better. They’re the same car with different options. I’m fairly certain your opinion is more valuable to you than others’.
Warranty is a personal choice. OPC premium pays for peace of mind, but buying elsewhere, that premium covers a few years of extended warranty if you wish.
Your opinions have been very valuable to me. This would be my first porsche and might be the last. I am usually a BMW fanboy. So it is good I am sounding the opinions about what are seen as necessary for a reasonable Porsche car. All I really want is a small car with nice options, reasonable mileage with good driving dynamics that is reasonably fast ( I enjoy cars with low down torque that would give me a love in the back) and reasonable mpg. This might be my last ICE car before going electrics
Thanks
Fair enough, in which case both of those will fit the bill.
For what it’s worth, my 981 Cayman has more or less every option bar ceramic brakes. As it is first and foremost about the driving experience, the options that enhance that would be tops on my list. Sport Chrono, PASM, PSE, PTV. I wouldn’t have a cayman without them, to be honest. That said, they can be retrofitted (except PASM).
Then the cabin stuff. The 18 way seats are fantastic, and the Burmester stereo is excellent, whereas the BOSE upgrades the fairly poor basic system to just about acceptable. Extended leather is nice, but I’d have that lower down the priority list. That said, my wife doesn’t drive it but this stuff makes the interior a nicer place to be for her - and therefore she’s happy if I suggest we waste an afternoon driving..
Don’t listen to Julian (nobody else does), go and see if you can sit in a base-spec Cayman. It is a nice place to be without any interior options. It’s a much more driver-centric cabin than a BMW and feels like more of an occasion.
Feel free to PM me if you want my full run-down on options.
You may have seen this, but don't go thinking you need the 718S (or a GT4) over the 718 base model:
https://youtu.be/7MqOaqHbf9Q
Of course you may get less options in a base car but some may have spent their money on toys rather than (extra) speed.
I had a 718 Cayman S for a couple of years with a standard interior, I thought it was good, no issues at all. I am sure leather would be nicer but it definitely wasn't high up on my list of priorities.
I would also recommend the 2 way sport seats plus, if you dont need the memory function then they're great. Really comfortable and I have never had any issues re getting them in the right position, if i recall correctly they also sit a bit lower than the 18 way.
I would prioritise PASM, not because you need the sport mode but the normal mode is great for day to day driving and really helps keep the ride comfortable while also giving you plenty of feel and feedback.
Other things I would look for, not absolutely necessary but you would think would be standard on car costing that much.
Heated Seats
Dimming Mirrors
Dual Climate
Park Assist (Front & Rear)
Re the stereo, Bose is okay, nothing special, its an improvement over the standard system but that isn't really saying much. Just be aware that there is quite a bit of road noise in the cabin, so choice of stereo will make little difference.

It’s got sports chrono. It’s just that the switches are on the manettino style wheel mounted selector instead of the centre console on 718 generation.

I didn't know this. I do see now the extra clock on the dash but it's recessed a lot further back than on the 981. I think I prefer the 981 position but now I'm in danger of sounding like a boring old man saying modern cars are rubbish.

£20K of extras yet so many blanks...how can that be so?
You cant buy one of these with all the blanks filled. But this car lacks Sport and Sport Plus buttons as it has no Sport Chrono.
I think I agree 981 wise....though the ideal would be Chrono but with no clock. Complete waste of time the clock to 99% off owners ...and wish it wasn't on my Cayman R (the clock bit of it that is).

I quite like the clock on the 981. It looks like it was designed with the clock there rather than just stuck there as an after thought. It looks to me like the design has gone backwards in this respect on the 718.

Economies of scale of shared parts with the 991 would be a big factor but they should have built it into the digital display rather than an inanimate blob on the dashboard.

It's not a blob on 981's as it's much more neatly integrated into the profile of the dash and looks better than just having the hazard warning switch in that position.

Indeed, I was meaning how it is on the 718.

You may have seen this, but don't go thinking you need the 718S (or a GT4) over the 718 base model:
https://youtu.be/7MqOaqHbf9Q
Of course you may get less options in a base car but some may have spent their money on toys rather than (extra) speed.
I have seen the video before. Anyway I was not surprised. Of all Caymans, the only Cayman that is slightly faster than 718 Cayman S to 60mph, 100mph or ¼ miles is Cayman GTS. Otherwise, 718 Cayman S is faster than any other Cayman including GTS 4.0 and GT4. It is as fast as GTS (depending on the track), of course GT4s are faster on tracks. This is based on several reviews and comparison websites such as

For what it’s worth I have a 718 2.0T PDK Boxster in Miami blue with black 20 inch sport wheels. I love it, had it since 8 months old and now just passed 5 years with less than 23,000 miles thanks mainly to COVID screwing our driving trips abroad.
It still looks stunning & gets admiring comments wherever it goes.
This is my 4th Boxster (previous 2003 986S facelift, 2007 987S & 2009 Gen2 987S, all manual).
I test drove a 2.5T PDK at a local Porsche Centre as the car I was looking at was in Belfast - they didn’t have a 2.0T so wasn’t sure what to expect once I got it.
I needn’t have feared as it is plenty quick enough & quicker than my gen 2 987S thanks to the PDK box. The sports exhaust definitely helps with the sound and mine doesn’t have sport chrono - the 2.5T test drive did and sport+ was just manic - not a pleasant sound to be honest. The good thing with mine is fuel economy is excellent - 250 miles driven yesterday with an average 36-37 mpg with nearly 40mpg on our trips to the continent, also as it’s pre 1/4/2017 the RFL is only £210 as it doesn’t get hit with the luxury car tax element.
Snippersgate are just down the road from me & they’ve been trading for quite some time - they’re not Porsche specialists as such & in the distant past they didn’t have a great reputation and if you look at their Google 1 star reviews, I’d be a bit concerned buying an expensive car from them.
Hope this helps.

My 3.4 litre 981S PDK will also return 40mpg along motorway in 7th if being careful so 60 to 65mph. That's door to door so not just flash mpg for the odd few seconds.
As someone has already said, some Porsche owners are crazy. I bought my 2014 Cayman S 42 months ago from an independent garage, it had been traded in against a Mclaren. The 'it can't be any good if it isn't from a Porsche dealership' is bs. You live in cloud cuckoo land if you expect a garage to put a car through the £210 OPC check to make you feel better about the car, zero to do with confidence in the car's the sell. It could have brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 4s all around but if they don't have that N0 on them it will fail the check.
I wonder how many owners have had to deal directly with Porsche GB, they are terrible. I put them on par with any mobile or energy company for customer service, crap.
Colour of car is a personal preference, but if you don't look to when you want to sell you could be out of pocket thanks to your choice. As much as it will upset some I would avoid that blue (horrendous), yellow, red any 'trendy' colour, fine if you lease a car and don't intend keeping it. White, black, silver and graphite will always be in demand and suits the Cayman.
For the price of the blue Cayman you could get a flat-six Cayman S with a ton of extras. Most would prefer the flat-six and the sound it produces. A Black Edition below £5k cheaper, put it through the OPC check & if any faults found get the garage to sort them and then get 2 yr warranty with Porsche. Nicer car and save cash, also more likely to retain a higher value.

Anyone trashing the GR Yaris hasn't driven it. I recently had a go in a slightly tuned, 300bhp, one on a track day and as a drivers car I believe it's as good as my Cayman. It doesn't have the prestige value that a Porsche has but the potential of a 10yr warranty (service it with a dealer and they add a year to the warranty) is mighty appealing. If you want a good drivers car the GR Yaris and the Hyundai N cars all offer you one brand new for way less than a used Cayman, if it's the prestige then go for a Cayman base model with extras and save yourself some cash.

That Black Edition has been on the market for close to two years now. It is poverty spec and quite frankly a total dud. You couldn’t have picked a worse example!
As for the Yaris, there is a reason why they are cheap - they are made of a bag of spanners….shiny spanner’s sure, but all low grade parts and it looks like it was designed by a kid with a box of crayons. They look a total embarrassment.

Wow….
I love what the Yaris is… if I had the spare cash to justify a 3rd car that bag of ‘shiny spanners and low grades parts’ would be the car.

As you say colour us very much a personal choice - I love Miami blue & I don’t know anyone personally who has said they don’t like it. It’s certainly not “horrendous” as you put it.
These cars suit a loud colour unlike some that most definitely don’t.
Good old retail silver eh! Wouldn’t be my choice or grey or black either - as you say it’s personal choice but if you want to follow everyone else that’s OK.

You're wrong about that.
You often see unusual and indeed 'loud' colours going for crazy money on the used market with these cars on account of rarity. Yes, you can get it wrong and a really unfavourable colour will hurt resale. But ye olde PTS premium is definitely a thing.

Not everybody, some will prefer the torque and better performance of the turbo engine, and that 2.7 is much slower than even a base 2.0. 981s will also be at least 6-10 years old this year.

With the very long lead times ordering new along with the recent price rises, all Porsche values appear to be holding nicely as we go through the spring peak market.

I wouldn't want to drive a car where it is a flip of a coin if the airbag will fail to deploy during a crash. Nor a car that can accelerate on its own.
And before you reply and say that is not happened for the masses, it has happened waaaaay more than enough, one death by airbag failure is enough right. Bag of spanners I tell you.

Whilst not my bag Crayon whilst looking like a drab primer undercoat paint always sell well.
In fact a Crayon 2017 991.2 GT3 just sold at Romans indies for a record £165k in just a few weeks.

It's the fashion. See launch colours, too. The most awful colours become fashionable when used for a car launch.
If Porsche hadn't launched the 991.1 RS in salmon pink and instead some yootoober had gone and wrapped their car that colour, there would a dedicated thread ridiculing it. But Porsche put it on a launch car, called it 'Lava' and people lap it up.
Ditto fluorescent vomit, sorry Peridot, on the 987R. If Porsche had never used that colour for the launch, you'd never get away with it.

Whats the decision may I ask.
Test drove it and loved it. I love the noise and it is louder inside than my M6 (It is pre OPF) and feels very fast (shove in the back which I love). The handling is good (I would not be a able to comment much because it was rainy a bit) but it feels small which I also like. It feels premium and has AppleCarPlay, a must for work purposes. The car is the most optioned Cayman S on sale in the country now (including Porsche approved used, I have literally searched every website). However finances are proving difficult

This car we are discussing is the only 718 Cayman S PDK currently on sale in the UK (I would be very happy if someone could prove me wrong) that has all the drivetrain components ordinarily included in the GTS (Sport Chrono, PASM with 20mm lowering, PTV with mechanical differential and Sport exhaust ) would probably do the same time of 1.35.35 as the GTS?
Are there any other aerodynamic/drivetrain components that makes Cayman GTS superior to Cayman S apart from those listed above?

2013 & 2014 Caymans & Boxsters have just had a major recall notice for a rear suspension part faulty from manufacture, 100% failure rate. Luckily I was only doing 30 mph when mine failed, German engineering at it's finest.
'Low-grade parts'? Currently able to be tuned to over 500bhp on the stock engine.

Good morning All.
I have bought the car. But not collected it yet because of work and being out of the country. Would collect it on the week of 30th May.
The car is probably overpriced but still much less expensive compared to 718 GTS that have higher mileages and less options. The car is pre OPF, Miami Blue with Sport Chrono, PASM, PSE, PTV, LED head light, ventilated 18 way seat, Apple car play Park Assist Front and rear, 20 inch turbo 911 wheel with 2 tone leather, cruise control and speed limit display and some other options
I intend to keep for a long time (I tell myself and wife this)
Thanks All

On every day roads in case it’s been forgotten by the buy on stats guys 0.01 faster on this or that circuit etc, it’s all about matching the cars performance envelope to the drivers and the road conditions .
Boxsters are perfect , it’s all in the handling balance + brakes
Make me laugh at newbies busting themselves with ridiculous “monthly’s “ driving grotesque Lambos , McClarens , et al raising the fronts over speed bumps or never being able to experience the 100 to 180 mph range .
I di like the flat 6 Vs and analog hydraulic steering btw that’s why I dropped in @ 987.2 s
How ever appreciate time moves on .The flat 4 guys seem happy enough with there cars .
Go to 2.0 onwards to around 6.0 ……the “joy “ not the track lap times .

I intend to keep for a long time (I tell myself and wife this)
Thanks All
Great stuff!
Hope you enjoy it and be sure to share pics

Great news ,hope it lives up to expectations.
I am currently still in the honeymoon phase of a 09 - 987.2 base with the 2.9 .
It’s on 90 K with a good history .

Thanks All. I don’t need a flat 6. I already have a V8. I am buying a car that is better handling and faster than 981 and 987 Caymans, that could be used as a daily drive with better mpg. I also like the sound

Some pictures at the dealer's
Would probably take some other ones later when the car is with me
Anyway, please don't be annoyed with me, I have never found the front view of Porsches attractive (including this car) apart from the probably hard core GT4/3/2 RS. Who knows, I might add one of those in 5 year's time
The rear view would have been better, if the rear spoiler is up, I might add the picture of that later
I like the interior 2 tone leather (the colour combination is exactly the colour combination of the interior of my M6) it also has steering leather column cover or something like that
Sorry for boring you guys/girls to death with my excitement.

Of the two you were considering I reckon you have chosen the better one. Congratulations! looks fantastic. I don't mind the front look, maybe its the angle you are looking at it, as they look pretty mean (in a good way) when they are approaching from a distance.
I like that. An unusual combination but it works well.
Always nice to see something a bit different and the sort of car I'd peer through the window of if I was walking past!
Enjoy the car, I'm sure you'll love it.
She has arrived to meet the big brother. The car is much more attractive in real life. Everybody loves it, wife, children and neighbours

Cool looking car! I took delivery of my second new 718 Cayman December last year (first one was back in May 2017). Both have been Carrara white, but I think they look amazing in blue. I also have a 981 GT4 (also white
), but for road use, the base 718 is about as good as it gets for me.
Enjoy it!
Liam
Thanks everyone
I took the car for Porsche 111 checks today that cost £216.00. Nothing found apart from worn flange bolts that hold the exhaust in place. I would have to have 90 days of ownership before putting Porsche extended warranty. Otherwise, I would have been able to put one today
Well, if I want to in 90 days, the warranty would cost £740/year or £1270/2 years or £1860 over 3 years.
Just for everybody with Cayman to know, there is a recall on the air intake grille. It was changed for me at no cost at Porsche Centre Newcastle
I am now happy with myself, that I bought a faultless car outside of OPC.
The other gripe is that the Porsche tracker is still connected to the previous owner and therefore that can activate it for me. So we would have to contact the previous owner to discontinue the contract for me to start my own
I am not sure whether I would do the extended warranty or not later, combined with M6, I would be spending
