Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
When an S-Class is 100% in running order cruising down the highway, it is sublime.
Leading evidence: 'Run order cruising down the highway' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run order cruising down the highway' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
As the title says, there is a big dilemma:
I currently have an Aruba Blue 2008 A5 3.2 6 speed I drive everyday. Great car, tons of fun, pretty (RS5 wheels
) just not enough oomph (even with intake & exhaust) with almost 89,000 miles on the clock.
What's recently caught my eye is a 2003 Porsche 911 4S coupe. 114,000 miles, 6 speed, Zurich wheels, needs alignment, and has a catalytic converter fault code. The guy wants to trade.
Am I crazy for considering a 2003 with 114k over my 2008 with 89?
Would anyone know a fair price difference? Book value puts the A5 roughly a grand above the 911.
If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I would really appreciate sharing!
Thanks!
Nope. I would save for a 996 turbo and sell your car when you have funds to make the swap. No way I would swap a car with a Cat fault and wheel alignment with 114K miles and a major service coming up in 6K miles. A new Cat is $3K. Aftermarket X-pipe Cat is $1800.
I would not trade. The A5 is easily one of the most gorgeous cars to roll out of a factory in the last 15 years, and while I love my 996s, that just isn't a fair trade for you.
If you want to make the switch to a C4S, it sounds like their should be cash on top from the other guy to even out the deal. A5s are holding their value really well right now.
Don't do it. There's plenty of C4S out there with much lower mileage, probably better condition and could be had for pretty cheap. If you want the Porsche, sell your car individually and start the hunt.
Don't do it.
Hard decision, how much does your car worth?
I know Audi in general don't do well in the used car market.
If you want the HP, wait and find yourself 996 turbo, you won't regret the wait.
I drove a5 rs on track at Sonoma - the v8 sounds nice but you are not connected to the road like a 911. Porsche is a lot for fun - but I wouldn't get one with 114k on. Unless you need 4wd - look for an '02-'04 with under 80k miles and you will be happy ....
A5 does look classy inside and out however ...
+1 - Sell your car and have your pick in the used market. By far the best advice.
Plenty of good choices out there with low miles and no faults. It's not hard to find a car for 1/3-1/4 original retail price and 75% of life remaining.
Thunder, take Nike's advice and "just do eeeetttt!!!!" Well, I would sell the A5 (gorgeous car, by the way, you are obviously a man of great taste). Then spend 3 to 6 months looking for the right C4S or Turbo. The hunt is half the fun, and if you've got the $$ burning a hole in your pocket, it will make it that much more fun. I get to drive a lot of really cool, high end cars (long story) and I can tell you that there really is nothing like a Porsche 911. I really pity the guys who've never owned one. It should be on everybody's bucket list.
Edit: should also add to that bucket list owning a Mercedes S-Class. When an S-Class is 100% in running order cruising down the highway, it is sublime.
