Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Moving house and may need to sell the car. Any idea how much the new engine is worth on the price. The new engine is genuine Porsche with 5k miles. The rest of the car is immaculate and has 98k miles.

Thanks
I tend to find that putting in a new engine only makes a marginal difference to the price of the 'standard' (ie on its orginal engine) car.
People tend to give cars with new engines a wide berth - or they actually appreciate the benefits if they know the vehicle types problems.
Knowing what I do about 996 it wouldn't bother me and I might pay a little bit more. But then again a 996 with a decent mileage should have had the usual issues sorted or it's past the mileage where they manifest themselves.
My Indy was putting a replacement engine in a 996 when I was there so the owner could sell it. For some reason he didn't want the original rebuilt. :dont know:
+1
I think that a new engine might make the car a little easier to sell but would add little if anything to the value. It would be viewed a little like optional extras, nice to have but would add little to value.
although I can't help thinking that the new engine syndrome that 996's were infamous for, is not as bad as that reputation makes out in such instances :?:
Well,
I would think it would add just about only the value of the Warranty, so say £1250 plus a bit for the rest of 2010, so £1500,
And I'm basing this on the scenario of,
Try selling it without an engine, or with a duff one, this takes you to well below market value,
But selling with an engine brings you back to market value, plus the value of the warranty, which is debatable.
But then again, I'm not a trader, or a purchaser at the moment.
Basically, its a 7 year old car with 98k on the clock. another current thread on the 997 section bemoans the current selling/market prices of 2 - 4 year old low mileage 997's, so I don't think you'll realise much more than list/market price.
I think you're going to get younger, first time Porsche buyers thinking that they can haggle you down from whatever price you put on it, cos that's what they were able to do then they bought their Scoobie's, Civic's and GT-Rs.
As someone who has put a new 8k autofarm engine in mine i would expect only about a 2k premium irrespective of the huge benefit it would offerthe new owner
All in all better to keep the car and enjoy the investment. Well thats my plan anyway.
I tend to agree that it wont put a lot of value on the car but if the potential buyer is a high mileage driver, then it would be an attractive propositon.
I recently bought a 10yo 44k 996 becasue I cover around 15k a year (sometimes more), i paid a bit more than i wanted to but it had good history and was clean. Is the rest of the car clean for the age of it?
If so then the whole package would be like buying a v low mileage model.
Good luck with it.
Thanks everyone for your comments. As you'd imagine I tend to agree with those that thought it added value. A straw poll of friends with 996 awareness suggested most would be prepared to pay more.
To answer Wilpert's question the rest of the car is immaculate.
Will let you know how I get on
Cheers
