Now I'm thinking I'll buy another car to build up for the track because when I get to the next run group I'm going to want some better safety equipment than my stock cabrio can offer.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone done it? Can it be a temporary install etc. Wanted to do a local track day and they won't allow the car without a roll cage.

POST 2Original post

I did a lot of research on this myself. The install on this is pretty permanent because you'll need to drill some holes in the floor of the car to install the bar. Two points are attached where the seat belts bolt in but the other two points need to be drilled in. So I talked to a shop about how to make it removable and their suggestion was to weld some small plates under the car so that the bolt is permanently installed and then I can cover it with a plastic/carpeted plug to hide it when it's not in use. But I was cautioned that installing and removing the bar is a pain because aligning it could be problematic. I figure that would be a problem if the bolt doesn't stay permanently installed but shouldn't be an issue if everything is there and ready to be bolted on. I was very close to going through with this but then we had the baby and I need the back seat for his car seat. Now I'm thinking I'll buy another car to build up for the track because when I get to the next run group I'm going to want some better safety equipment than my stock cabrio can offer. Good luck!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Fernando Great info. We would be doing a few track days a year so I would not want i to stay in the car I see you have a hard top. If I had a hard top do I then not need a roll bar? T

I bought the hard top with the intent that it would serve as a replacement for the roll bar. But unfortunately most tracks don't consider that to be the case. I can run on two tracks in my region with the hardtop but others with more significant elevation changes require the roll bar even with the top installed. So it really depends but in all likelihood you'll be told that the hardtop won't suffice. I'm the same way as I only do 3-5 track events a year so it doesn't make sense to put something permanently on my car. Tough call on what to do...
