Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have searched this with little success. My trunk light will not go on when I open the trunk. I need to also open the engine cover and then the trunk light will work. This seems to be common. Which switch needs service , trunk or engine? Do I need to remove headlights to remove strip over trunk latch for access? Any help is appreciated. Are carpet retainer pins in trunk dealer only or are they a common size from hardware store.

POST 3Original post

The switch for the light in the trunk is located on the latch. You don't need to remove the lights. You can remove the plastic and the carpet and you will have access. This is a very common problem. Cost is about $150 for a new latch with the integrated switch. I have seen some write ups on repairing the switch only. I think the lack of responses is because you said the light goes on when you open the engine bay. Not sure why this is happening. My trunk light was out but I never checked to see if it went on when the engine was opened.
