EVO air filter/intake fitments question?
I just received my EVO filter and intake body and wonder if any one else had the same concern that I have. I fitted the filter to the filter body and notice how very sloppy the fit is; the filter could fall right off before you put the clamp on it. Once the clamp is installed and tightened, the excess rubber flange of the filter bunches up around the filter body. I believe the filter should fit the body snuggly and that the hose clamp should just insure a leak-free secure connection.
Did anyone else have the same experience? Was I shipped the incorrect filter element in error? I bought mine from AWE and will call them Monday morning unless I learn otherwise.
Thank you,
Joe
Mine looks pretty much exactly like the picture in the first message. The filter was already attached/clamped to the flange when mine was shipped to me. I didn't notice any rubber bunching up that I recall, again, nothing more than what was in the photo above and I believe there are photos of mine in the Articles section where I did the install article last year.
I am not sure what Evo considers to be an acceptable tolerance, but that doesn't sound right. I just had mine off for a spring cleaning with a K&N cleaning kit. It pulled off easily after loosening the clamp, and went back on easily, but snugly. I did not notice any bunching. I would call AWE and see what they say. E-mailing a photo to them couldn't hurt either (or posting one here).
After additional searching on this site I believe I found the answer to my question in this post from BigNate of EVOMS (see below). Thanks for your responses! Joe
EVOMS V-Flow Q&A Thread
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi my name is Nate and I am a performance representative for Evolution Motorsports. I have read through some of the threads in regards to our V-Flow air induction system for the 987 Boxster / Cayman S and I wanted to start a thread that would allow you all to ask questions regarding this intake system.
Just as an FYI, there have been two generations of our Cayman S / 987 Boxster V-Flow. The first generation came with a 4 layer cotton gauze K&N filter, the latest generation comes with a custom make 5 layer cotton guaze filter that wasspecificallydesignedto fit our billet venturi adapter. The second generation filter is a much better fit than the first generation filter. Because of that, we are offering a discounted rate to those who want to upgrade from the generation one filter to the generation two filter. A generation two replacement filter willrun $75, we are offering them for $40 as a replacement for the generation one filter.
Secondly, for those of you who are members of this forum we are discounting the Cayman S / 987 Boxster V-Flow 10%. That brings the total to: $314.10, the regular retail price is $349.If you want to take advantage of this, please email your order to

nd I will make sure that you get the discounted price.
For all other questions, please just post them to this thread andI will answer them as soon as I can. Thanks!!
