Get a shop to evacuate the system for you before you take everything apart then replace the condensor and go back to the shop to get it evcuated again then regassed.

Hi, anybody out there had to replace an AC condensing unit on a carrera 2? I have advicethat mine is leaking, and I know my air con is not working well at all, so I am going to get it sorted out, I just dont want to pay top dollar for this. Thanks in advance, Craig

It is an easy DIY job. The front bumper is 20 minutes to remove then remove the air ducts which is 5 screws and the condensor is right in front of you. Get a shop to evacuate the system for you before you take everything apart then replace the condensor and go back to the shop to get it evcuated again then regassed. One tip is to oil the O rings of the condensor connection with the PAG oil then yo will have no leaks.

Air con- Condensor replacement I have just replaced both the condensers on my C4, easy job, I didn't get mine cleared before, as it had leaked so much it was empty. Got the pair from Start_alt_centre, In coventry (via e -bay) cost £185 the pair. call them on 02476 717444..based in Coventry and very hepful. I brought them at 2pm and they arrived by courier next morning. Took about hour and half to remove and 45 mins to put back on. amazing how much crud- including a skeleton of a bird- was trapped between the condenser and the radiator. Then went and had a re-gas- £60. all now nice and cold. Keith

Although grill related (you may consider fitted to prevent rotting or stone chip damage to rads), these linkies show the DIY to get to them. http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=51912 http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=52852&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=screwdriver&start=10 If your refrigerant has already escaped, just unscrew old rads and fit new ones. If you still have residual refrigerant, get it extracted to put back in later (they may even charge you less as there is less new gas to sell) - any decent AC place will do this. I have heard KwikFit offer the service.
