So, I got in the car with the help of a locksmith, but set the alarm off doing so, which apparently disables the standard "trunk open" switch.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

28 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Title says it all. I have an 01TT My doors were unlocked, I closed the hood with the keys inside the trunk and the doors automatically locked. Who knew that would happen? Not me. So, I got in the car with the help of a locksmith, but set the alarm off doing so, which apparently disables the standard "trunk open" switch. My key is still locked in the trunk. I tried the following: 1. Finding the manual trunk release. It is nowhere to be found. I have the front passenger tire off, the wheel well liner off. It is nowhere that it is supposed to be. I even looked behind the tow hook cover just in case. I can't get the headlight out because I can't get into the trunk to release it. 2. Tried the extra battery to the fuse terminal trick and that didn't work. I was hoping that would bypass the alarm. 3. Tried removing all the alarm fuses then repeated the above. No luck. Does anyone know a trick to getting the headlight out without getting into the trunk? I'm thinking that the release cable is hidden somewhere underneath it. Remember the 01TT headlights are like the 02+ non turbos. or Bypassing the alarm so I can get the trunk to open with the normal switch? Any help or well wishes would be greatly appreciated.

POST 2Original post

You may have to remove the passenger's side wheel well liner. the cable should be in that location. After this is all said and done, you might want to re-route the manual cable to a location near the front bumper cover for easier access in the future.

Uh, no...this does not happen. Not sure what you did, but since this is basically your first post, I do not feel comfortable telling you how to break into a Porsche

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

got a911- I have removed the wheel and the wheel well liner and no luck finding the release cable. wross - I appreciate your loyalty to Porsche and their owners, but this is technically my second post, and my first was middle of last year. Second, it did happen. Third, I'm trying to get into the trunk not the car (the locksmith did that for me). I do, however, understand not wanting to post how to bypass the alarm online. Please call me if you know how [phone removed]. You can quiz me about my ownership if you'd like. Perhaps you have a headlight removal trick instead?? I'm not trying to sound disrespectful, I'm just frustrated.

POST 6Original post

Look at the second link Wross supplied. Remember that the pic shown is a Right Hand Drive car, so the cable is still on the passenger side.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks wross and gota911. That second link helped to see where it was routed. I ended up unfastening as much of the front bumper as I could and pulled it back enough to where I could see under the headlight. I could finally but barely see the release cable. I fished it with a hangar and voila. I'm going to use the trick of putting it behind the tow hook. Thanks for helping steal the porsche. Kidding. Thank you.

POST 8Original post

Tim, no harping about a pic? He didn't say his camera was locked in the trunk!

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 6129438

True, but he seemed pretty panicked so I didn't think it was a good time to ask for pics! And no, I am not getting soft on the Newbies. He's just lucky it is the holiday season!

POST 11Original post

I'm curious how the car locked all by itself. Makes no sense at all to me. Dumb question, but why do you only have a single key? You "should" have 3 (2 master and a valet).

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 6129954

Dell, This could happen if he used the key to open the trunk only, then closed the trunk without opening any doors. After about 10 secs the doors automatically re-lock.

POST 13Original post

So the car has to be locked first then open the trunk only? I though the OP said the doors were unlocked? This is so strange that the car would lock itself that way.

POST 14Original post

so he got the trunk open, now where are the pics.... DANM guys.... PICS BEFORE ADVISE... he wont be back and we will never see those pics now!! Thats some Holiday Cheer for you

POST 15Original post

If you unlock the doors, but don't open them, they will re-lock within ~30 seconds. So, scenario goes like this. car fully locked unlock doors on remote [unlocked] pop trunk on remote [open] put keys in trunk close trunk [closed] doors not opened within 30 seconds of remote unlock button pressed, doors re-lock [locked] hosed

POST 16Original post

I think if you read the manual it advises that you skip step #4.

POST 17Original post

I think the manual also says 8. Go and get spare key, unlock and be happy.

POST 18Original post

In the later model 996 manuals Porsche amended the wording on #7 to read: 7. hosed, you dumb f*ck!

Statman, On the contrary, we want to be open and helpful. Here's how to break into my Porsche: 1. Remove the R front tire, gently place it to the side. 2. Carefully pull back the inner plastic fender liner. 3. Gently feel around for the trunk release. 4. Pull trunk release. 5. Carefully climb inside the trunk. Think skinny! (you will have easy access to everything you need here). 6. Close trunk lid behind you (that way no one can see you breaking into my car). 7. Be careful of the interior light in the trunk, it may give away your position, so make sure that trunk is closed EXTRA tight. Voila! You have now broken into my Porsche! I hope that was helpful to any would be criminals out there. Happy Holidays!

POST 22Original post

LOL....I have my cable attached to a separate battery...if you are unaware it will be shocking experience. My hidden camera will also take a picture and post it on the web. Have fun ripping it off...

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had not revisited this thread since I got the car open. The comments were not so nice, but I guess I deserved it. Not sure what pics I could have sent to prove I was legit, but I can assure you it is my car. Thanks again to those who helped.

You misunderstood the reason for the pics request. It was not to prove you own the car, but because it is customary for Newbies to tell us a little about their car and to post pics of their car. So with that said, here is your "Newbie Initiation!" Come on, Newbie, post the @#$%^&* pics! Ahhhhh, I feel better!
