Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Really - I did once torque a fastener to a spec that was in lb-in but I used lb-ft.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I ordered the chrome bolts and nuts from Boothe. I haven't installed them yet. But I have seen workshop do it and surely the way they do it with those drills will scratch the polished surface. What can I do to install them without scratches?

POST 2Original post

Well you should have ordered the Boothe soft socket as well (and I hope you got a couple of wheel hangers from him also). Also Beez posted a tip the other day about using a part of a plastic bag inside a regular socket to protect the finish. Whatever you do make sure you finish up with a troque wrench.

POST 3Original post

You want to make sure the bolts are torqued to 96 ft. lbs. brad

POST 4Original post

Torque them with your fingers. I can just get them to 96 on torque. My hands get sore doing this though - but no scratches. Oops - thought that was lb-in! Really - I did once torque a fastener to a spec that was in lb-in but I used lb-ft. Fastener didn't break or rip out the threads amazingly because I never did achieve the final torque but realized that something was very wrong as I was tightening...... Check them after 100 or so miles too, but I think that is as much a liability tool than a technically needed routine for tire shops.

POST 5Original post

What do you do to recalibrate them? I've got 1/2" and 3/8" sizes but I've never heard of recalibrating them in a formal sense. Is this do-it-yourself or bring them in to a specialty tool shop?

POST 6Original post

I don't think recalibrating isn't the correct word. You should have your torque wrenches checked or verified that it is working and within torque specs. There are places that will do this. You will need to do this every few years or so. You will need to do it especially if you drop it because they get out of whack.
