Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I think that if you want ultimate control and performance and wish to use the car on trackdays then manual is the route.

Suggestion
Very rarely would you leave it in gear until the redline but the main problem I found was that I was forever using the steering wheel buttons which take about half a second to engage and in real world terms that is a long time!

+ you can drive it in manual mode using the steering wheel controls, it's not like driving your mums auto as some manual drivers have suggested

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hi all, im about to make my purchase, and and stuck between manual 6 spd or tiptronic box, is there much differnce, is one better than the other, are they both as good as each other ?
thanks
The tip in auto mode floored is unbelievably fast it takes your breath away!!! + you can drive it in manual mode using the steering wheel controls, it's not like driving your mums auto as some manual drivers have suggested
think about it, how old fashioned is a manual foot and wrist ache on long journeys? Tiptronic = speed and comfort.
The combination of easy long distance cruising, and snappy gearchanges with the steering wheel controls is very, very good.
0-60 time suffers a bit, and it's not quite as involving as a car wth a clutch, but overall I think it's a winner.
I live in central London, with lots of stop and go traffic Tiptronic is a real win.

Yes GT4, I'll take one please
The GT3 and RS are

made in old fashioned manual form. A stat I really love Porsche for :thumb:

I had a 997S courtesy car for 3 weeks that was a tip and, for me, when pushing on it ruined the experience for me. Very rarely would you leave it in gear until the redline but the main problem I found was that I was forever using the steering wheel buttons which take about half a second to engage and in real world terms that is a long time!
PDK is different because it is much quicker but there's nothing like the mechanical feel of getting the shifts just right, heel and toe etc, on the right road...
Happy hunting!
Well mines the 6 spd manual, and I love it. However, I think i'll get a tip' next time - just because I spend so much time in traffic jams.
There's good and bad about both.
your choice
Just done 800 plus miles to le mans and back and the tip was great for that, as it is for a regular commute. However, for spirited driving its gotta be manual, but it depends on where and how you like to drive.
I think that if you want ultimate control and performance and wish to use the car on trackdays then manual is the route. However if you just want to enjoy the Porsche driving experience within the speed limit, then I don't think you'd be dissapointed by the 'tip'.
Marmite question, most owners seem to have a big preference, I went from a 996 manual to 'tip' and haven't looked back. And my next Porsche will be a 'tip'. IMHO the 996 manual in stop/start traffic is no fun at all, it's unpleasant to drive; heavy, difficult to drive smoothly - that's the area that would be the main influence on my choice.
