Hi, I wish I was writing my first post, saying how much fun I am having driving my beautiful Porsche around this island. But unfortunately I made the mistake of lending my car to a work colleauge who seems to have blown my engine. Its in the Garage at the moment with some one who has good experience with Porsche, but being Spanish and on the island wants to charge outrageous prices for a recon engine. Can anybody recommend a UK supplier who can provide me with a recondition engine with warranty, and some advice on what I should be paying? I am waiting for confirmation on the engine code but I am pretty sure it's a 3.4L Thanks in advance. Simon.

Well there are a number of options. Replacement Porche rebuilt engine with all anciliaries ready to bolt in with 2 year warranty in uk is about £8300 + Vat at whatever rate the government currently makes up. If its going to spain then I guess it will attract VAT at the Spanish rate but dont know for certain. Alternatively you could get an Autofram remanufactured and improved engine (Correcting many of the faults in the original Porsche design) which is about £6500 plus VAT with a 12 month warranty. I have one of these and it has been excellent so far. Or if you can get your engine out and back to the uk then Hartech could well be able to effect a repair (depending on which of the 996 frailties has caused it demise) at probably a lower cost but impossible to say prior to stripdown. There are loads of threads on here from Baz at Hartech explaining what he can do.
