Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install rads' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill with 50/50 coolant' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I need to replace the rad on the front of mine....did you do your rads yourself or someone else?

Suggestion
Running a bit hot could be many things but it sounds as if you have found the problem if one of the fans is not working.

Question is all of the above okay or is it running too hot?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 996 C2 has recently taken to running at about 90 c when fully warmed up whether in traffic or on a run. Also the cooling fan kicks in at the front but only on the drivers side (should it be working on the passenger side too).
Question is all of the above okay or is it running too hot?
Thx
From experience mine never goes above 80-ish (just over the 80 mark on the gauge), and I'm 99% sure there are two fans that should be kicking in (or maybe 3 on a GT3 / X50 / X51 car?), which is probably why it is running hot, so it sounds like you need to get it looked at.
Sorry I'm not an expert, this is just from my experience - one of the guys like Richard H or GT4 will hopefully be along shortly to give you the definitive answer... :thumb:
Hi...I have just fitted new rads on my 996 turbo.
When i bled the system both fans should kick in together.
The connector is under the arch and does get a bit dirty.
Try putting a 12v supply directly on the fan to see if the fan works.
Hi 996tbo
I need to replace the rad on the front of mine....did you do your rads yourself or someone else? Also how much am I looking at to get the job done? I understand bleeding (burping) the system is pretty hard?
Cheers
Hi...I did the rads myself so labour was zero.
The side rads i got for £230 +VAT and the centre was £220 + VAT.
Bleeding was pretty easy and is best done by raising the rear of the car, so coolant has a better chance of flowing to the rads.
Open up the bleed cap.
Fill with 50/50 coolant.
Start car and keep at 2000rpm whilst having somebody watch the level in the header tank and fill as necessary.
Give the car and accasional blip to 4000rpm.
Make sure the heater is on hot and you will start to feel hot air comming from the blowers.
keep doing this until the fans kick in again always keeping an eye the the coolant level.
once happy close the bleed cap.
You will need to keep an eye on levels and top up when in use (small amount)
Hope this helps.
Thanks mate, might have to hire you to come sort it...if I break it lol
Sorry for hijacking this thread..... by the way my 996tt runs just a touch over 80 degrees when warmed up.
my 996 c2 runs most of the time with the needle on the 0 of the 80 marker (usually in line with the left hand side of the0)
However in traffic it will go to about 85 before the fans (yes there are 2 that should come on) kick in and bring it down a bit.
In very hot weather like we have now it runs a bit hotter ie in line with the right hand side of the 0
Running a bit hot could be many things but it sounds as if you have found the problem if one of the fans is not working.
The actual temperature that the car should run at is in the range 86-92 degrees etc.
However, the analogue temperature gauge is not well graduated (the "0" in "80" is actually 90 degrees).
The fanS should kick in at 105 degrees actual.
By the way, you can force the cooling fans on by using the AC (it is the same fan). Only a GT3 has one fan.
