If the dealer doesn't want to fix it, I am sure they can recommend a body shop but does anyone know of a good one around Atlanta?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I pulled out my car this evening to wash it and after I rinsed it down I noticed a large white patch on the inside of the rear wheel wheel. I thought it must just be something stuck to it but when looking closer. It is down to the bumper plastic. No signs of a scrape or anything and the car is not driven much. I touched a piece of the paint and it came off in a paint chip. Any clue what could cause this, will warranty fix it as bad paint, and how to prevent from happening again. What is my next move? I feel a little sick from it and I had to stop the wash before I got upset about it.

POST 2Original post

Well, this is probably one of the spots that takes the most punishment... did you buy the car used? If so, my guess would be that if it's peeling off because it's not adhering to the underlying surface, that this bumper has been re-painted somewhere along the line - and not done very well. I have 42k miles on mine, in all sorts of conditions, including 30-some track days, and it pretty much looks like it's new. brad

POST 3Original post

Mine has some stone dimples but the paint is intact.

POST 4Original post

How does the other side look? Could you have driven over some sort of solvent on the road? How about driving gravel roads/driveways? Sorry to see this. I have clear bra material applied in that area and along the lower bumper/wheel arch. You may want to think about this after a repaint. Here are some photos of this being done on Retired-Teach 's car.

POST 5Original post

One of three things..... Bad paint from the factory,.....not likely, but possible. Bad repaint of ther rear bumper Chemical strip by something off the road. A good body shop will be able to paint just that area and feather it into the surrounding area. They will also be able to tell you what happened. You could take it to Porsche to see if they will cover that repair, then decide where to go from there.

POST 6Original post

I didn't notice any of this on the other wheel well. I am going to try to see if the dealer is able to do anything to fix it (under warranty I hope). I guess they should be able to tell if it is a factory paint issue. I do have a clearbra on most of the front of the car and hood and even a small amount of the roof line. I was pretty upset at first and still am a little but trying to take it in stride. It is just a bumper and can be fixed. I will feel better when it is fixed. If the dealer doesn't want to fix it, I am sure they can recommend a body shop but does anyone know of a good one around Atlanta?

POST 7Original post

Yeah, don't get too upset by this. It's a high wear area and things happen. Good luck with fixing it!

POST 8Original post

It looks like the rear section may have been airbrushed. It is a short-term fix and is not as durable as a complete repaint. Over time, the paint becomes very fragile and ends up flaking off when being impacted by road debris. Once you get this fixed, get some clear bra material applied to this area.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
