Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I am in Cyprus 8) and took my 99 996 to a garage that has the latest computerized wheel tracking system, but he said he could not adjust as he did not have the correct tool. Does anybody know what tool this is ? Thanks Scott

POST 2Original post

No special tools are required. It's a worry that maybe he's trying to adjust something he shouldn't!

POST 3Original post

A lot of trye outfits will say they have the latest equipment and can do 4 wheel alignment but when they have the car on the ramp, they will probably only adjust the rear camber and not the toe as they find it awkward to loosen the nut for the rear toe adjustment. If you challenge them about it they will say it needs special equipment to do so. Their computerised machines will give quite a lot of detail about tools needed for each job and to be fair it may say the front toe adjustment needs a special spanner. In the Porsche workshop manaul it does list a spanner but it is just a spanner with a bit at the end that you can attach a torque wrench to when you tighten it up.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You could be correct, I confess I sent my wife down to get it checked so maybe not the best idea. I took it myself today and they put it on the ramp to show me. The problem is they said they could not adjust the back, they did show me the location but it was very hard to see if it was just a nut or if they needed a special tool. It looked like the lower wishbone arm and the adjuster was in a small square recess in the housing.. I did not charge me for any of the work, which for Cyprus is quite amazing. They also said it was not worth doing the front if they cannot do the back. To be honest, I just wanted the front wheels tracked to stop the wear, the roads in Cyprus are pretty bad so will need them doing regularly.. I'll have a crawl underneath this weekend and see what I can see with a torch. My guess is they are just nuts but possibly seized and they did not want to risk breaking something....
