Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
The second 'release' were actually units destined for assembly line installs, hence the shifter is mounted in a plastic cradle with teflon bushings, no adjusting needed.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The oem ssk comes two ways, the original retrofit kit is just like the BM, only painted black, yes you need to remove the teflon bushings with a chisel. The second 'release' were actually units destined for assembly line installs, hence the shifter is mounted in a plastic cradle with teflon bushings, no adjusting needed. Porsche way over anticipated the demand/ supply, hence they had a 's' load 996 ssk shifters for the line, but no orders to fill. These were dispersed to whatever dealer wanted them, they are sold mounted in a plasitic frame, usually in a plastic bag. They don't plan to make anymore, when the supply is gone, they're gone. I got a nice deal from Braman Porsche in Fl, 300$, ask for Javier.
It's a 1hr install max, simple hand tools, you don't have to pay for everything. You will get a sense of accomplishment by diy, hard to f it up too.
It's my understanding that you still need to break out the bushing, courtesy of Scott Slauson via PCA:
"The short shift kits do require the old bushings to be broken out. The new units utilize metal bushings and shift rod. You can't reinstall the old unit after the short shifter has been installed. Should you want to reinstall a standard shift assembly you would have to buy the complete assembly."
