Reported cause
It was the next item on my list of to do jobs before I blew the coolant pipe off again.
Leading evidence: 'next item' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'next item' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). Suggestion
this repair might get delayed for a month as you'll probably see from my other posts my cars laid up minus it's engine at the moment and currently awaiting parts which will take the best part of a month to arrive and be fitted.

Suggestion
Given the cost of a dealership repair for the ram leaks I'm definitely going to try and repair them myself.

Has anybody repaired the spoiler rams if they've had a leak?

Luckily my OPC have an old set they recently replaced that were leaking so they offered to let me have it so I can play with it without experimenting on the original.

If you hold the bolt assembly with a spanner and try and tighten the bolt, then it seems very tight although I have not tried a torque wrench on it yet.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hey everyone, just got myself a white 01 tt today, few things need doing.
The rear spoiler does not work at all and the warning light comes on over 50 etc, is there ANY WAY for the time being to disable the message coming up on the dashboard until I can afford to have it fixed? thanks in advance
Does it go up and down on the switch? Any signs of fluid leaks? Can you hear the hydraulic pump running?
Yoe can't really disable the warning without making some wiring changes.
AND WE NEED PICS!!!!
gonna take some proper pics this week and post them up.
regarding the spoiler, if i was to put a fixed wing on the rear ie a replica gt2 wing, then I would have to purchase one of those wiring looms for £50 ish to disable the dash warning and functions? surely can I not just plug this loom in now if I bought one?
Further to the above... Has anybody repaired the spoiler rams if they've had a leak? Ie can they be re-kitted? One of my rams has a minor leak and although it's not a major concern currently, in due course I'd like to get it sorted. Kiwi
Porsche don't do a seal kit for the cylinders. Is it definitely a cylinder seal? The hydraulic lines are connected to the cylinders with a banjo bolt and two seals. If it is leaking from there you might try nipping up the banjo bolt. (15Nm)
It appears to be leaking around/out the circlip at the base of the ram. It's maybe 1 or 2 drops per week. I've tried to give the bolt a tweek, but will torque it up. Given what the dealership wants to replace them I'm surprise if no body has found a way to recondition them. Kiwi
Kiwi, Di you manage to sort this? I just noticed yesterday that my nearside ram is also weeping slightly at the circlip. The hose connection into the ram seems loose as it can spin around (not loose on the other ram). If you hold the bolt assembly with a spanner and try and tighten the bolt, then it seems very tight although I have not tried a torque wrench on it yet. Ideas anyone?
It was the next item on my list of to do jobs before I blew the coolant pipe off again. I should hopefully get the car back in the next week or so when I can progress it further. Given the cost of a dealership repair for the ram leaks I'm definitely going to try and repair them myself. I have done alot of research and got all the details of how to pull them apart, bleed, etc. Luckily my OPC have an old set they recently replaced that were leaking so they offered to let me have it so I can play with it without experimenting on the original. If it all works out okay I'll probably recondition both sets. Will keep you posted... Kiwi

I recieved the spoiler removal spanner this week that I bought on eBay. Might see if the OPC will be happy to ship me up that old ram set so I can start working on it in the meantime... will keep you posted...
996 turbo rear spoiler
Hi
Yes the error can be programmed not to come on with Porsche software dealer or indie can do this. they just turn off the active spoiler.
if you fit the GT2 wing you need to do this and fit spaceres to elevate the wing then dissable the active spoiler which is contoled via the ecu in the instument pack.
You can also refill the hyrualics on the rams you will need
Pentosin oil
12v probe for activating the motor and to be able to make it run forwards and backwards.
remove the lines to the motor and power it until the rams are all the way down. fill the chambers with pentosin oil. keep the unit upright. re connect the banjo bolts dissconnect both lines from the rams and submerese the ends in pentosin activate the pump backwards and forwards drawing and expelling oil through the lines couple of times to get rid of the air. now with the pump uright possition both rams upside down banjo bolts removed add pentosin the the chambers (it wont take much) connect both banjo bolts and nip up. if you keep the lines submersed and everything upright the small ammount of air that gets in when you connect the banjo bolts wont matter. slightly slacken one at a time and activate pump if you think it took a big gulpand tighten when just oil comes out repeat for other ram. and thats it done. also the motors stick so a good blast of WD40 where the brushes are sorts that
good luck
