Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello to all, Just recently got my Cayman S 07 and noticed that the cup holder flap (trim) doesnt close. I push it in and it comes back. I was looking for a broken tab or piece where it will lock but it seems like it doesnt have one. I'm guessing it has to be in the middle part of the holder. has anybody repaired theirs and if yes, what can I do other than buy a 300 cup holder. THANKS in advance.

POST 2Original post

There should be a tab directly in the middle of the trim hinge - a tiny, <5mm tab that is very easily broken. If it's not there, you'd have to be a plastic welding master to add one.

POST 3Original post

sorry to ask but could you post a picture to see exactly what you are talking about. Please and thanks for your help.

POST 4Original post

I have a similar issue. Does your cup holder trim come down completely? Mine closes but wont stay flush and sags halfway down.

POST 5Original post

I saw the tab, but I think that the problem is inside the little housing that holds that little tab.

POST 6Original post

mine stays open (completely), it just doesnt close

POST 7Original post

I had that happen once, had to open both cup holders then push them back in. Trim piece then clicked into place. Mike

POST 8Original post

Good News, got to fix the cup holder and it was free. After removing it from the car, open the cup holder (by removing 9 screws and carefully prying it open.) I discover that a small gear had broken inside the housing. After removing all the little broken pieces, it now closes and opens nearly perfect. Not as slowly as it would but who cares, the trim area now shuts and looks nice versus having the trim area open. just letting you guys know. Open it carefully and look for any obstruction.

POST 9Original post

I hate how fragile the cup holders in this car are, I bought the ultimate cup holder, I have always been afraid mine would break with no way to close it.

POST 10Original post

Had a problem with the cup holder trim door not locking so I did a search and ran across this thread. Tried your suggestion by opening both holders at the same time; heard a click. Closed both holders and then closed the trim door a Voila the door successfully latched! Drove the car and came and tried the door again and it still latched. Awesome, you saved me $300 as I was going to replace the unit!
