Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

So had my first trip to the dealer today because of a CEL... Ended up needing 6 new coils (thank god for CPO anyway tried to get them to fix a list of other little things, they fixed the trunk thunk... But said that Porsche said that the interior peeling was a cosmetic issue and Porsche would not cover... The service manager even said they told Porsche that it all looked like defective parts, not wear, but no luck. I have read all the threads here and it sounds like some people have had luck getting Porsche to replace the ashtray, key surround, door pull area, etc. So anyone have luck calling Porsche to complain so they would cover? If so what made them change their mind??

POST 2Original post

Make a fuss at the dealer and tell them that you have seen it on just about every 997 and 987 you've looked inside of, and ask them to put in writing to Porsche NA to cover this "issue" under warranty as they have done with many other customer cars. It is a quality issue plain and simple and Porsche just state that it fails due to hand moisturisers or sun lotion on your hands...strange how none of my other cars have the issue!! Whatever soft touch coating they are using is not up to the job and it's got better on 2nd gen cars, but still believe there are some issues. Just keep pushing. Painted parts are the way to go and are a lot more abuse resistant.

POST 3Original post

I have had several peeling items replaced on my 06 CPO by my dealer...no questions asked. Make a fuss, such a behavior from your dealer is not acceptable.

POST 4Original post

What exactly happens if the interior "peels"? Is that with the standard or leather interior, how does it look like?

POST 5Original post

It is the soft rubberized coating on all of plastic interior parts. It peels away from simply using a button or brushing up against it during normal use,

POST 6Original post

I took my car in for warranty related issues and i told them about the rubber peeling (key surround and ash tray), and they said no problem and replaced it without any hassle. I think it varies by dealership. Mine probably cost the dealership money, but it was so small that they wrote it off as a dealer cost in order to keep my business. Sometimes people have had their battery replaced under warranty, but not every dealer does that. So I suspect that some dealers foot the bill themselves.

POST 7Original post

If anything peels off, it's warranty in my eyes. Because if it's not, Porsche would expect that peeling taking place within a few years and that can't be understanding of Porsche 's quality. And I bet, Porsche themselves would declare it as a case of warranty. I would not hesitate to contact Porsche directly in any case of trouble with the dealer. We're not paying a lot of money for this cars without any reason. Just my 2 cents and what I would do.

POST 8Original post

When I was still under the original warranty, my dealer replaced both my A/C control stack and my ashtray due to peeling interior pieces. The new A/C unit no longer had rubberized controls--apparently Porsche recognized the issue and switched to plain slippery plastic instead. If you're under the original factory warranty, they shouldn't have a problem doing this for you. Complain to the service manager, then the general manager, then to PCNA directly--you will be heard eventually. I don't know if CPO covers this sort of thing though.

POST 9Original post

I have an aftermarket extended warranty and they won't cover this unfortunatley...

POST 10Original post

I am going the route of talking with Porsche customer service first and see where it goes... The CPO warranty information is the same as the original new warranty " Porsche Cars NA will repair or replace with new or remanufactured part any factory installed part that is faulty in material or workmanship under normal use." This warranty does not cover: - Normal wear and tear or deterioration of any part. - Appearance items that are not due to a defect in material or workmanship Which are the same as the new car warranty... So obviously they know it is a quality issue with all the complaints... I will post back with how I end up getting Porsche to pay for the fixes... A car this expensive should not have trim peel!!!

POST 11Original post

CPO is not the same as the factory warranty. CPO only covers mechanical issues. For example, if your speaker goes out during the factory warranty, it will be replaced; however, under the CPO, it would not. The peeling could be considered normal wear and tear.

POST 12Original post

From Official Porsche Website - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG What does the Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty cover? The Porsche Approved Certified Preowned Limited Warranty covers all parts in the following components and assemblies: Engine Fuel / Cooling system Power train / transmission Suspension / Steering Brake system Heating / Air conditioning Electrical Systems Body Comfort Electronics

POST 13Original post

The AC controls are the worst, because it means replacing the whole unit which is expensive, and I don't think dealers do this at their own cost. Porsche has a submission process (just like most manufacturers) for goodwill claim requests, and if your car is CPO they are more likely to cover so called "wear and tear" items like this. My AC controls look horrible, and my center console is scratched as are my door handles Looking to get them stripped and painted in guards red, which is what I wanted all along anyway

POST 14Original post

Like I said, they covered my A/C controls with no argument--didn't talk about it as if it were a goodwill item either. But my car was still under factory warranty. The CPO warranty will NOT cover trim items.

POST 16Original post

I made a fuss, told them the interior in my Ford Contour with 175k miles on it doesn't peel, why does this car's? They argued a bit, but eventually they "threw it in". Don't be afraid, or too proud to whine it up a bit. Better that money be in your pocket than PCNA's.

POST 17Original post

When I told the service tech that the replacement hvac unit had unpainted plastic knobs, it made it much easier to argue that the part was defective, and not just peeling due to normal wear and tear. It worked for me (under a CPO warranty).

POST 18Original post

I do not have the peeling issue but it seems to be a common issue. I would raise a fuss and mention how many owners have this issue. This is a quality issue that should be addressed and covered in a car of this caliber.

POST 19Original post

My Stone Grey interior has a few nicks in the trunk and near the ignition and shows black underneath, I have touched up with matching latex paint but REALLY we shouldn't have to do this. My Audi Has BLUE interior and the panels are made of blue plastic all the way thru. It will scratch but it won't peel,

POST 20Original post

Patterson, what kind of matching latex paint did you use? Ive been looking to do the same in my stone grey interior, thanks

POST 21Original post

Reading this thread brings to mind the significant differance in the way that high end car companies treat their customers. A couple of years ago the driver's seat leather in my wife's Lexus LS 460 developed a slight discoloration. Nothing significant, but noticeable if you were looking for it. Since my wife is an avid tennis player, I expect that the discoloration occurred from the numerous times she drove her car after completing her tennis matches. She brought this discoloration to the attention of the Lexus SA, and he apologized for the imperfection and immediately scheduled an appointment to have the leather replaced, which I was told was a very expensive undertaking. She dropped her Lexus off in the morning and the repair was supposed to be completed by 5:00 on the same day. Around 3:00 my wife got a call from the SA, who told her that the replaced leather on the driver's seat did not exactly match the color of the leather of the passenger seat. So he was going to keep the car for another day so that the leather on both front seats could be replaced. I wonder if Porsche would have done the same thing.

POST 22Original post

My wife has owned two Lexus (Lexi? ). The customer service both at the national level and the dealer level was second to none. By comparison, the Porsche dealer level of service locally feels like I own Yugos. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

POST 23Original post

I used Behr Exterior Latex Enamel Satin Finish from Home Depot. I took them my ashtray and had them match it. It is a good match. My trunk liner is pretty beat up from my briefcase. and it matches really well. I have a lifetime supply since they have to mix a quart.

POST 25Original post

Patterson, I assume you used a small brush. Did you do anything to prep the nicks? How did it come out? Probably better than black, but is it noticeable that they have been touched up? Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

POST 26Original post

I went to Home Depot this weekend and they mixed up some paint for me. My interior is sand beige and the satin finish paint just looked too shiny compared to the sand beige. They then mixed up some flat finish and it matched perfectly. Whether satin or flat is better may depend on your color. One advantage of flat is that it is available in the small 8 oz sample sizes. POST 27Original post

And that my friends is the difference between Porsche and the other luxury brands , The level of service mentioned above is what I've always had at BMW and seen my friends get at Lexus , My Boxster S is the most expensive car I purchased and the level of service is about the same as I get at the Cadillac dealer , My center console also peeled and they never accepted to replace it compared to BMW that replaced the door trims under warranty on my 335xi after the seatbelt buckle was denting them

POST 28Original post

My 2010 Carrera interior started peeling just after the four year warrantee expired. First, I blamed my wife until I could see that the soft rubberized paint is just bubbling off the surface, not a result of being scratched. The local dealer just tried to sell me new parts. PCNA said "I am very sorry, but I am not able to offer goodwill assistance for your repair." PCNA is very clear on their position, if the warrantee has expired you are out of luck even if it is a manufacturing defect.

POST 29Original post

My last Porsche did the same thing as yours on the ashtray only, thought about hydro dipping , could do in Carbon fiber look, not sure about durability.

POST 30Original post

I am in the process of correcting this heinous soft touch paint debacle. For A and C pillars (door surround trim) I covered in charcoal gray alcantara headliner material. Matches the GT3 alcantara shifter pretty well. I am also doing the rear hatch headliner in the same material. For the console, I got a painted one from a RL member, and am refinishing that in OEM Meteor Grey. Would love to support BumperPlugs, but I would need the price to be what it was 15 years ago. My pockets are shallow. I will eventually also gloss Meteor Grey paint the door handle surrounds on the inside, and the rear shock tower/speaker surrounds. My 2001 Volvo interior looks nearly new at 140,000 miles. My 25,000 mile Cayman looks like it was recovered after a theft. Shame on Porsche for such awful quality interiors. I guess that if you didn't drop several grand for full leather, they don't want you as a customer.

POST 31Original post

Very common problem; I heard sunscreen attacks it. I peeled it all off on parts of my old Boxster and imho, it's just as good without it.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
