Without teaching you to suck eggs; I fully agree with at least an annual oil & filter change, just be aware that if you’re on the extended warranty, you’ll need to get that done at an OPC - which is multiples of the cost it should be.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Only 5,500 miles had a rattle around the glove box area after doing launch control turned out to be cup holders which were replaced and problem gone away.
Ok, so 18,000 miles in 17 months is not exactly high mileage, but I was wondering if anyone had encountered any problems running one day to day. I know there have been a couple of (hopefully isolated) issues reported on delivery but for me, other than having to take it back to the dealer once to get the tracker reset after 12 months (as Vodafone lost the signal) I’ve had no issues at all to report and it really has been fault free motoring as you would expect. (I think the only other minor issue I had is the PCM froze once whilst in nav mode, but this was not a problem as it just rebooted itself.). Any one had any problems so far ? (Any smart-arsed comments about ‘engine sound’ should be posted in the other thread!)

Just approaching 16,000 miles since June last year as its my company car. My biggest issue is rattles or resonance from the passenger door which drives me nuts. I have also noticed the caliper bolts are rusty. I will get both looked at when its due its first service.
Other than that its been great.

Why not take it in to get the rattles looked at and fixed?

Intrigued - why would you not go leather? What issues have you had
My previous 981 boxster & Cayman had standard seats just prefer them. Leather is wearing where as both my previous 981’s seats looked brand new when I sold them.
Got a BS and put 13.5k miles since August. Only issue was a faulty coolant sensor/wiring loom after 1k miles. Drive it pretty much every day and have taken it on a week long road trip in France with a McLaren 650s and it didn’t embarrass itself. Great all round sports car.

Strange , mine still look like new not sure whether that will remain though

Rusty calibre bolts on my 981 are part of the caliper and non-removeable. OPC solution was to replace calipers and go goodwill halves on the £1000 cost. Cosmetic issues not covered under warranty. I wire brushed, applied rust converter, then a black permanent marker. Been fine for 20k miles.
Just the noise, a bit like a hair dryer just before it blows up!
Why on earth would you buy one of these when 981s exist?
Oh.... apple play....there you go!

People need to use their cars more though, myself included.....they don’t like sitting under wraps for months on end.

Maybe you find it funny repeating the same thing each time but I think it reflects more on your sense of humour than mine though I guess that is subjective just like the sound. It would perhaps be more grown up if we could have a conversation without some blurt throwing in a statement that bears no relation to the thread just so they get a bit of attention.
I don't care what you perceive to be the truth, if I wanted the 981 i'd have bought it, if I wanted a 911 i'd have bought it. Whilst I may not give a s
t what you or others think (it's just a car, I didn't give birth to it) it will likely get a bit tedious for some if every time a thread is posted on the 718 someone says "oh but the sound is s
t" and it is irrelevant to the topic.
I'm averaging 800 miles a month, it's my daily.
14,000 miles since May last year in my 718 Cayman manual base model. Faultless, but ready for the stone chips to be painted on the front bumper. I have enjoyed it enormously.

Hi Jimbo and others, I know this is from years gone by, but I've just picked up a 2017 Cayman, 14,000 miles and plan on doing some serious distances in it over the next two years whilst I have the Porsche approved warranty. I've had it a week so-far and already clocked up over 1400 miles (10% of the cars past 4 years of use in 7 days lol). I do a lot of miles for my job/business and the car will be used properly and over serviced as I simply don't believe that 20k mileage intervals should be a thing on a highly tuned, turbocharged motor like this one.
So, did you have any issues after this? Do you still have the car? I'm keen to know the story.

Your other option is just to get it done/do it yourself and not record it in any way.
All from new,
26,000 in my 981 Boxster
25,000 in my 718 2.0 Cayman
19,000 in my 718 Cayman T
4,000 in my GT4
Can’t remember any major issues with any of them - apart from my recent tracker woes with the GT4.
I did 24,000 miles in my 2018 718 BGTS - no major issues to report. Had some rusty calliper bolts and wheel nuts. Got these replaced (UK roads!!) other than that all happy days.
I’m now on my 2021 GT4 with 9300 miles and so far trouble free.

I'll still take it to Porsche for its annual/20k interval. Currently doing around 25 - 30k miles a year so should be interesting to see how reliability plays out. Hence my post to see how things were getting on with OP's 718. Although, I'm terrible for keeping cars longer than about 5 minutes. My last car (BMW i3S Rex) only lasted 4 months, but in that time did 13,000 miles...(wanted to test the whole electric thing). Hopefully this one will last so long as I can afford to keep running it.
Anyone got any other things to watch out for or preventative maintenance theories? So far I've got.
I've heard it'll get stone chips all over it and go through a windscreen or two, I'm already over cautious of this and drive a million miles away from anything rear/4 wheel drive.
Car is currently running on Tesco Special Brew 99' though thinking of joining Porsche Club GB for the Esso fuel discount thing.
10k self imposed oil changes.
Manual car because I don't trust the dual clutch transmissions despite claims of 'bulletproofness'. + has sport chrono with rev match so what's not to love?
Any other suggestions?

My 718 Cayman S is nearly 5 years old and has almost 30k miles on it. Touch wood but it has had no issues at all in that time and pretty much looks and drives like new. Took it to the highlands last year and had a blast.
The only time it has visited the dealer is for routine services

my late 2017 2.0 718 is on just over 43k
I've driven 13k of them - but in it's life it's had a new rear spoiler actuator because it gave up. New rear lights because they misted up and a new exhaust tip because it was corroded. All covered under it's original new car 3 year warranty.
it has espresso natural leather and it's a little worn on the drivers side bolster - it's stone chip free because a just eat scooter tried to take the front bumper off last year so it got replaced........
Apart from that just routine stuff.

Whoa! Just noticed this blast from the past with my name in it.
I only kept my 718 Cayman 2.0 for 3000 more miles after my last post. The stone chips were sorted out by having the front bumper painted, and I traded it in as close to mint as a 17,000 mile car can be. It was faultless throughout the time I owned it. 2 tyre replacements due to punctures, paint on front bumper. Probably the best car I have ever owned, but read on...
Traded in against a 981 GT4 back in October 2018. Still have that one and has been daily drive when roads aren't salty ever since. Took delivery of a new 718 Cayman 2.0 in identical spec to my original one November 2021. 1200 miles in 2.5 months, so it seems unlikely I'll be racking them up as quickly as the first one, and nothing like as quickly as you. (Bitter-sweet, was doing regular 600 mile round trips to visit a terminally ill parent when I had the first one.)
981 GT4 has been ever so slightly less than faultless. Was recalled for gearbox replacement, as they all were. Within a couple of weeks of getting it back the clutch release arm pivot started squeaking. Had a short debate with dealer about warranty and clutch, and they took it back with an agreement that if it was their mistake it would be FOC. Happily they 'fessed up (potentially on the basis that it
had
to be their fault). So despite slightly less than faultless, has cost me nothing beyond routine servicing so far. Also a nice car, but the base 718 is a better road car in almost all ways.

Base 718 PDK, registered Jan 2017 (bought by me Oct 2017 with 3,000 miles), now 22,000 miles (thanks to COVID restricting our planned European tours in 2020 & 2021).
Needed a new PCM under 3 year warranty when the sat nav screen just froze.
Rear light lenses mist up but was told this was due to them being LED so not replaced - I didn’t push it.
New tyres replaced last year on around 19,000 miles.
Went in for recall just recently on new side vent mesh inserts (previous mesh inserts on recall were replaced).
Whilst there underwent a video health check and they highlighted the following:-
1) slight leak from coolant pump
2) slight oil leak from turbo
3) oil leak from PDK gearbox which they thought was from top flange (but it was tracking down onto the gearbox oil sump)
They didn’t say any were urgent although I took advice from PCGB technical advisor who suggested the coolant pump should possibly be replaced as if it goes, it’s catastrophic.
A bit concerned about the PDK oil leak although there are no leaks on the garage floor - I know a place locally who can repair PDK but hopefully it’s not an immediate issue.
COVID has really restricted usage and I’m not sure whether that is responsible for the leaks.
Still love the car and we’ve done 2 multi country tours (2018 & 2019) in Europe where it is the perfect car. We have our twice delayed European to look forward to late June/July this year - fingers crossed.

Hope you took out the extended warranty..
Unfortunately no!
This is my 4th Boxster & aside from tyres, pads & discs, never had an issue before with the previous 3. This is the first with PDK though & I’ve read some of the horror stories…….
So for those who’re interested I’ve had the car a month (31 days) and it’s done 5,000 miles in my ownership.
First thing to happen was a chipped windscreen, roughly 3 days in. Had this repaired with a local chap at a cost of £50. Autocrass wanted £200 the thieving…
Then the tyre pressure warning light reared it’s ugly head. “Oh dear oh dear oh dear, it’s the nearside rear” I said. Took it to a well known auto centre that fixes things kwikly and they said it was fixable. AND the chap did it for free. My wallet and I sighed with relief.
Then, without warning, my seatbelt decided to turn itself around. It must have been like this when the car was delivered to me, but in the haze of excitement, I’d not noticed.
Then the weather warmed up and I decided to crack the window open to listen to the sweet sweet WRX burble. Only to find myself grinding gears like nobody’s business… until I realised I wasn’t actually changing gears and the sound was in fact the sports exhaust system which has some kind of terrible crunching sound every time you pass through 1900 revs.
Booked in with Porsche Centre Wilmslow on the 1st of April, hopefully they don’t try and play any tricks on me. I’ll keep the thread updated for any future 718 owners who might stumble upon this when most 718’s become leggy.
Total cost of ownership excluding finance and petrol to date: £50
Average fuel consumption seems to sit around 34mpg reliably across mixed driving.
Motorway fuel consumption: 40mpg easily achievable at indicated 70mph.
Disclaimer: I probably won’t be doing this many miles every month. The excitement of getting the car has lead me to drive it almost everywhere, but I think next month will be less heavy… we’ll see.
Am I missing something here?
The OP asked about high mileage.
Two pages in, and I haven't seen any high mileage answers yet.
40k being the highest, which to me, is not a high mileage car.
Watching with interest.

Thanks for the update. Definitely interested as since my 2018 post I have started again with a fresh new 718 that I will most likely keep quite a bit longer, and you are racking up miles at a rate faster than me. Keep them coming.

Main thing you may have missed is that the OP and page 1 is from almost 4 years ago. Hopefully we might see some responses from people that kept their 718s and put some miles on them. My car from page 1 got sold in October 2018. I've had a used 981 and other vehicles in-between.

To be honest COVID screwed my mileage over 2020/2021 with planned European road trips knocked on the head. Now replanned for this year.
We could have used it for our trip to the Dordogne in Sep 2020 but my wife invited her bloody sister so had to take our daily instead - annoyingly the weather was hot & sunny - just what a Boxster is for. And on top of all that, I took partial retirement so that restricted my mileage (you’d think it would be the other way round but I use my car on business - just returned from Leeds today after a 200 mile trip - a nice 37mpg average easily achieved at a steady 80mph!)
Hello, the Thread
First, an update from last time.
The car was taken back in for some warranty work: the seatbelt and the Sports Exhaust. They fobbed me off with the exhaust, claiming the engineer couldn't hear anything. There was a temptation to ask if he/she actually had ears, but I thought I'd just leave it and tell them when it goes in for a service again. Glad the seatbelt got fixed as that was really doing my head in.
So we're almost 4 months into ownership and the car is due its first service. Much to the surprise of the OPC local to me who asked me 4 times if I was ABSOLUTELY SURE the car had done 20,000 miles since the 31st of January this year. Must be a rare thing for them to hear I suppose.
Anyway
OPC Leeds wants £1066.04 for the service which includes a drive belt, which I didn't think was too bad.
As an aside: I paid £600 for just the fitting of a drive belt on an Audi A1 I had, and £300 and something for a service at the main dealer so seems like sensible pricing to me.
Had another quote at £1250ish from another OPC locally, but decided to take it back to Leeds as they sold the car originally and its always been serviced there before so just felt it made sense and looks good in the book lets face it.
Up in Scotland last week I had an oil warning come up: something along the lines of 'oil level low, refill max 1ltr, driving still possible'. As I checked this, it had a major freakout and said 'coolant low, stop driving immediately'... Because I'm an ex Volvo driver and therefore prepared for every eventuality with my first aid kit and anorak, I also had a litre of oil in the froot. So no big deal, filled it with 800ml or so and not heard a peep out of it since. I read somewhere that the coolant and oil sensors are on the same circuit so think it was just a few of 'wires crossed' as there was no strange coolant activity before or after the oil incident.
All-in-all its going great guns, although the fuel is crippling me and I didn't do the self imposed oil change at 10k miles. Instead trusting Porsche and their engineers that 20k intervals are perfectly fine. Perhaps I'll change my mind, but to be honest, everywhere I tried to book it in was busy and Porsche wanted £400 and something so I just thought I'd leave it on the recommended schedule.
Current Average MPG for the last 4000 miles or so: 31.9MPG
Bought a set of winter wheels and tyres for the car at a cost of £1500 from a company on eBay who specialise in Porsche parts. 9Apart they're called. Brilliant company, delivered next day from Bolton I think he said. Would recommend.
Summers on the front were past their best so replaced with Michelin PS5 in the hope they introduce the PS5 in the 265 section rears at some point soon so they can all match when the rears are changed. £420ish including fitting.
The car has been down to Tignes for a week of Skiing, up through Germany for an Autobahn blast, up to the highlands for some camping (fuel crisis killed my hotel budget, obviously). It's been down to London and to Shropshire for site inspections and events. Caffeine and Machine about 5 times. All over the Peak District and North Wales, down to Devon and right up to Teesside. Every single mile has been a joy.
Next update I'll do when something interesting happens.
Apologies that my numbers are all 'ash' or 'roughly' or 'or so'. I try to forget them as best I can.
Great update, good to see people actually using them - 20k? since Jan is impressive mileage.
Also reminded me to book the six year service - more 1,200 than your OPC Leeds quote but then I am in the South East. A year's warranty extension coming in at 660 or 835 with Porsche Assist.
Coming up to 50k now and I just finished a tour of Ireland, superb scenery and driving roads. Managed to get from the West Coast over there and back to the SE, UK via Holyhead on one tank, that's over 500 miles averaging 41 mpg so can't complain really although I am usually in the 20s day to day. That PDK 7th gear seems particularly fuel efficient if you're doing any motorway driving.
