Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Had geo done 4 months ago and all tyres, suspension checked then.
Leading evidence: 'Check then' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check then' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

how old are the tyres is another thing to check, there will be a 4 digit month/year stamp on each tyre to look for

bit like old radiator hoses...running tyre under inflated would cause sidewall splitting.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just a question on any other Porsche drivers who have a case of the splits
I have a 2003 Carrera 4. Bridgestone SO2, 225/40x18 N2 on the front. New fronts about 12 months ago, done about 8,000 miles. Run pressures 34 front 42 rears and only 1 track day.
Seems to be driving well. Had geo done 4 months ago and all tyres, suspension checked then. MOT today and noticed some impressive splits in both fronts. On right within tyre tread running lengthwise, about 2 inches long. On left front tyre in inner sidewall about 1.5 inches long. No bulges yet but splits deep down to the reinforcing!!!
Lucky I found out about them as due to have another track day next month. Haven't hit anything and haven't let pressures get down as check them every week. Haven't seen anything like this before. What are your other experiences ?
I have only seen similar splits in cars not used for a while with aged tyres.
Will try to download some pictures
Never. I have similar tyres (17" S-02) and have done many hard miles and six track days including eleven laps of the Nordscliefe.
Where did you get them from?
I have had this on my bmw 5 series
The tyres that have cuts in the tread and sidewalls that open up on loading... firstly you need to get them replaced..
The issue relates to tyre compound degredation due to age or heat.. a combination of both causes the tyre face to spilt to the cloth... bit like old radiator hoses...running tyre under inflated would cause sidewall splitting.
I was told it happens on cheap end tyres bought with alloy wheel sets / budget tyres although not so common these days as standards have increased due to european legislation...
Never known it on bridgestone chances are they have been sat on a shelf for a a long time or have a tyre compound issues... or your track day was a bit too much for them
try taking the brick out of your shoe!
:bye:
Only heard of it on old tyres where the rubber has perished.
The date of manufacture will be week number and year ie for week 27 in 2008 you'll see a "2708" somewhere on the sidewall near the wheel rim rather than the tread. some tyres only have it on 1 side btw...
Bin those boots mate, dont what ever you do drive it. If you're :cop: , it's a £60 fine for each tyre, If you crash your
insurance
company will use them as an excuse...
Are you sure it's an on the spot fine? I thought they'd give you a grace window to get them fixed, otherwise that sounds a bit odd.
If they over the limit on tread, then that's a different matter - although still up to discression I think.
However, agreed about not driving on them in that condition, unless limping to pick up a new set and you're happy to risk damaging the alloy!
Have a set of front Bridgestones on order for fitting on Monday. Will take some pictures of the offending items. Lucky the MOT picked them up as would of hated to think what might have happened braking hard at the end of a straight on a track day.
It's called the DOT number, look for a 4 digit number in a small rib.
The first 2 digits tell you the week, the last 2 digits tell you the year.
eg. 3709 is the 37th week[sept] of 2009
