Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2) Any obvious issues using the car in the manner described until I can get the issue resolved
Experienced a problem today with the ignition. Car started fine, but when I came to stop the engine, the barrel turned with the key, and although I did manage to get the key out with a bit of fiddling, it had not killed the supply (ie. radio and bluetooth still on, and remote locking would not work due to that.
Decided to lock car with key, and it gave out the single bleep.
So two questions:
1) What is the cause of the problem, and how easy is it to rectify
2) Any obvious issues using the car in the manner described until I can get the issue resolved
Any help appreciated as always.
hi there
i had the same issue a few weeks back and is fairly simple to change out the broken part
the ignition switch behind the ignition key barrel breaks up internally and so the contacts no longer are connecting properly
i changed this myself (as many others have)
Richard H kindly supplied me a guide as to how to do it and if you go to your local audi/vw garage and order 4A0-905-849-B
this is the correct replacement part (you can also order via porscheshop but is about a tenner more)
you can access the switch from behind the dash and the only special tools you will need are a set of torx screwdrivers and a bit of patience
cheers

this link shows the proceedure on a boxter but i believe i did exactly the same
i didnt need to remove the seat as this guy says and i just used a large jewellers screwdriver to undo the mounting screws
its about £15 for the torx set you need
£6 for the jewellers screwdriver set
(both from halfords)
and the part above was £38 inc vat
and it took me an hour or so in total although i did remove the battery and charge it at same time as the power was jammed on on my car and i had to wait a few days to get the part and by the time i came to do the job it was flat
cheers
