Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So once more into the breach comrades... Already Haltech EFI converted 3.6 varioram 964 motor with ported heads, 993 RS cams,ARP stud everything. Fabspeed headers, 12xLS1 coils etc etc, G50 gearbox, 996tt brakes. Inside is 964 everything including dash and Porsche script seats. Plans are another custom turbo set up but this time twin turbo, because if one is good two should be better right? I picked these up for it today. For me they are THE quintessential wheel. They are genuine 1991 date stamped non denloc RUF Speedline. Will post some more pics when I get the car home. Edited 9March, 2016 by Uncle

POST 2Original post

jealous of the wheels, goddamn... what year is the car? you are a madman sir; bravo

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

86 I think. If I’m honest I can’t remember lol. The really funny part is I’d been given the green light to buy the Grey Ferrari F360 and yet my bucket list OCD stopped me as this car is as you know a fish that once got away from me. Italian ladies can wait.

POST 4Original post

Looking forward to following this one I'm jealous of the wheels! I've been looking for some for ages.

POST 10Original post

POST 11Original post

Full of surprises!  Love it.  Now I know what the other Martin meant about the copycat wheels.

POST 12Original post

Well done Martin, those wheels will look the bomb !!

POST 13Original post

curious to see if the varioram makes a difference to the powerband vs your old 3.3, if any!

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers Gents. Should be a bit of fun. Turbo conversion might take a little while tho as I’v got a few kilos of fish in the pan right now. Not really apples for apples Sam. Old motor was a big single turbo new motor will  be 2 small twins. Mmmm twins. Edited 10March, 2016 by Uncle

POST 15Original post

I missed that the old one had been sold.  Someone is getting around with white knuckles? 2x turbos = 2x flamage, amirite?

The black wheels looked good on the car... but the RUF's are hard to go past. Eager to see how this one turns out

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don’t think they quite work. 2 problems, they don’t really fit over my front brakes and as much as I love RUF wheels I’m not sure they 100% work on this car ; /

POST 20Original post

Maybe they need a different colour?  Bit of photoshopping?  What about a gold/bronze colour?  Or just straight up gloss black with a thin red stripe around the edge?

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dunno. I’ll sleep on it. I’ve already had 4 sms’s and a P.M asking if I want to sell lol.

POST 22Original post

Is it an inside diameter problem or a spacer problem ?

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I.D Juuuust short. like .05mm. Where is that file...

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 154391

Assuming it is a tapered inside rim, would a 3mm spacer give you the clearance.  I have a couple if you would like to try. Edited 14March, 2016 by OZ930

Sorry Lee the plan is we land at 8:30 get over there do the paperwork and then head out of town. Loose plan for road trip is to head out of town to some where near the start of the Great Ocean Road on Wed night (all ears for input here Would rather quiet pub rather than fancy hotel). Thursday do the GRO and make our way east looking for a place on the other side of Melbourne to stay the night. Friday go back inland after a run up the coast and stay Cooma for the night. Saturday head back to Newcastle.

POST 61Original post

Cool mate. Probably best you don't  leave a Lambo in that pub carpark anyway! Watch out heading up from Richmond's to Greenhill road then Glen Osmond road to the freeway. They've been flooding those roads with radars pretty regularly. Safe trip anyway

Quotes source post: 222929

Yes, word of advice, SA is nowhere near as relaxed as NSW as far as speeding goes. 5k's over and they will jump on you, and the bastards hide the cameras well. Although that is nothing like here in the US. We did a road trip with 6 964's from New York City to Boston and we sat on around 90 (and as high as about 120) the whole way. MPH is the same as KMH isn't it

I was pinged 3kph over through a traffic light camera 6 months ago here mate! Usually Silver or white Toyota Camry's, yet have seen a tradie Ute with alloy tray and a camera attached to the bullbar. @Uncle I worked past Tailem Bend today at a place called Sherlock (no s..t!), and on the way there from Adelaide there were 2 silver Camry's with front mounted cameras after the Hahndorf turn off and before the Murray Bridge turn off near Monarto. The highway patrol (blue cars) are also hiding in the centre median with radar guns in both directions Melbourne side of Tailem Bend

POST 69Original post

Congratulations Martin. Its hard to keep up with what your current car is. Lambo looks very nice.... There are lots of reasonably priced places to stay around Apollo Bay on the GOR. it is School holidays at the moment so not sure if that will effect things.... Enjoy the drive home.

oh, you meant this one? I was there a few weeks ago too. Spectacular, isn't it. Sorry for the thread hijack Uncle. Looking forward to a full write up on the Lambo. There was a supercharged Gallardo at the most recent Autohaus run. Very tasty indeed!

POST 71 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Road trip home was epic. Motor has a bit of poke, it will give the traction control a solid beating coming out of a hairpin in 3rd at 60kph. My guess is the GT3 spec motor is making some solid power.

POST 72Original post

Quotes source post: 223644

Welcome back, we've missed you.

POST 73 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK so I’ve had a little time with the car now and done a couple of small jobs, First was replacing all of the coils a know problem with first gen Gallardo’s. As with all things V.W I knew the part number would amount to a common coil on plug from any of the Audi/VW parts bin. Sure enough you have to options standard out put and high out put. Stock is the normal Gallardo/R8 coil and HO is the Golf GTI coil. Old mate at the parts counts face when I asked for 10 GTI coils was pretty funny. “we sell them in 4’s. You know your car only needs 4 right?” Yeah ok give me 3 sets then so I have 2 spares. Parts guy very confused..

POST 74Original post

Quotes source post: 234484

you should have told him you had converted your golf to a three plug head

POST 75 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Now as a secondary measure (of 3) I thought it best to replace the 2 post cat o2 sensors. These would of copped a hard time with the 2nd rate coils not burning all the fuel available. This was all pretty easy as they are a simple Bosch 4 wire job. But Lambo keep part numbers like this very secret. So much so They don’t appear in any Bosch parts listing etc. Lucky for me I’m not the kind of guy to let something so clearly greedy stop me. Hmm $700 Lambo o2 sensor or $200 o2 sensor in a Bosch box over a white Lambo box. Long story short I bought a pair of Bosch non Lambo branded o2 sensors. Next was the cats. I was sure these where cactus but wanted to wait until I’d done a baseline run on the dyno. So we put car on the rollers to see what it would do. Whilst the tune was good and it was still making power right up to (and past) red line it just felt flat. So 310awkw (~416hp) in 4th. What I thought was well down on what it should be making. Fast forward a couple of weeks and it was time to manufacture an exhaust system and check the cats. Sure I could spend 6k USD for a cat back exhaust or I could just make one. I’ll make one. I should wrap cars for a living! My partner in crime as always “He who can weld”. Those to silver things are heavy like really heavy. 50kgs all day. So the cats. Yep they are the worst I’ve ever seen and robbing massive amounts of power. Drivers side. Pax side. Some hours later we are at the start to manufacture stuff point. Old mufflers v new mufflers.

POST 76Original post

Nice to see you're minimising the planet's resources . Those stock mufflers , what a waste of metal . Sound should be liberated. Truck those old mufflers to that noise factory in Canberra . Good work btw!

POST 77 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tools of our trade. After a not inconsiderable amount of time we made the perfect x-pipe. This is the key point around how we build everything else. The motor is slightly offset and we are going for a perfect tuned length system. I see you. Once we got it down to less then 1mm deviation it was time to start the TIG up. Oh and lucky for me I happen to have these high flow cats ready to go! Next was adding V-bands to the X-pipe so muffler options later on. Whilst HWCW was busy on the TIG I bolted the cats up ready for the rest of the job. So much room for activities. I’ll post more once we get more done in the coming weeks. POST 78Original post

Quotes source post: 234490

holy crap how did any exhaust get through at all?  It's like a prankster stuffed a rolled up towel in there

POST 79 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah that pretty much sums it up.

POST 80 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok so the hard part is now done. Whilst this looks like a simple couple of bends and a x-pipe its actually a fairly complex shape as it involves both up and downward spiral in one continuous radius. Added to that is the engine is offset to the left slightly. What you see below is about 25 to 30hrs work between 2 guys. You could knock something up in a matter of hours if you just chucked it together and MIG’ed it. I wanted it perfect so it takes time and a lot of fiddling around getting right. The end result should be an exhaust you would normally get charged (Lambo Tax) close to 10k USD for like the link below. Total cost so far is, well its a lot less than that. http://www.fabspeed.com/gallardo-performance-package/ We should get the last of it done Saturday arvo / Sunday. Once finished I’ll start the car get it all warmed then pull it all back out and get it ceramic coated black to keep the heat inside the pipe.

POST 82Original post

Mucho respecto anyone who is game to play with a Lambo in the shed deserves kudos.  And to then rip bits out and fabricate complex new bits by hand, well that's just showing off.   Geez these days I don't (can't?) even change a set of brake pads.

POST 83 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The car is actually really nice to work on. Everything is laid out well and makes sense. There are somethings that a designer is still laughing about as he goes to sleep at night but no more than any other car. Very much looking forward to the first start up.

POST 84Original post

Inspiring stuff. I just looked at the Fabspeed Video & its hard to believe that its $A15K for an exhaust system, but the Lambo Tax makes the P.car Tax look cheap!! Their car still has the burbles & pops on the overrun which I thought would be cured by new 02 sensors? Edited 22October, 2017 by Zelrik911

Dumping a little fuel in on overrun it pretty normal. “Keeps things cool”. We finished it all up today. Very long day in the shed but its spitting flames out of the right places now and sounds stupidly good. Proper F1 car good.

Yeah it was always about off airport flying for me. I enjoy the craft involved in "bush" flying. I'm far from a "bush pilot" however the skills gained in being able to land in different environments other than just a white painted centerline are invaluable. I actually took off and landed on a tar strip the other day for the first time in about a year. It was very odd. Picking the green tuft of grass you're going to put your wheel on his heaps more fun than looking at a pair of numbers. I'm still a low time (under 100hrs) pilot however I've been very lucky to have two highly skilled mentors who whilst very very different people both love off airport stuff. This has allowed me to learn skills in a safe way that you just don't get from cookie cutter flight schools. Being able to walk out of my hanger and over the road to the hanger my aircraft was built in and say "Hey Ole wanna come out for a fly?" or to head out to Dan's chew the fat in his hanger over a cup of tea then go and play in the farms around his place with him. Even just being able to pick up the phone and ask a question or seek advice. Staying humble and listening for the gems of knowledge often said in casual conversation.
