Just one further query, my can has been fitted previously with 225 front tyres but the link to the Porsche list of tyres posted above refers to both 225 and 235 section tyres.

I recently fitted some Continental Premium Contact 6 to another car and they are very impressive.

I had them fitted today but I've not yet had time to form an opinion as it was a very short drive home.

I had N rated Pirelli P-Zeros on the car originally, and replaced those like-for-like (albeit the N rating had cycled on).

I've replaced these twice since with Michelin Pilot Sports - much better tyre for wet and dry grip (although they wear a bit quicker than the Pirellis)

Suggestion
Anyway, im running Supersports on the rear of my 996 GT3, not sure what the turbo sizes are but i went up a size (think oem is 295/30 and im running 295/35 in SS from memory).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Apologies if this has been done to death but I cannot find any recent threads.
I need a new set of tyres for my turbo and just wondered what is now considered to be the best tyres? Currently on Continentals which have been ok. Car does 3000ish miles a year. Have read about N rated tyres but not even sure that they are available for a 996 turbo. Would be grateful for any recommendations.

I gave up trying to get front and rear N ratings to match - when i had to replace the rear tyres the fronts still had 6mm of tread left - fronts were an N1, rears are now an N4 because no N1s were left to purchase . . .
I keep toying with the idea of ignoring the N rating and trying something even better from Michelin etc - but I'm not sure what would be a step up from the MPS? (These seem great to me - loads of wet weather grip that was lacking on the Pirellis)
I gave up on the N-Rating system after the car became too old for the Porsche Warranty, though the SS was factory fitted to some 997 GT3's...

Alot nicer tyre than the PS2 but the sidewalls seem softer.
If you want PS4S, you need to go to 19's.
Ironically, the P-Zero's i had, were worn through after 4k miles but the Michelins lasted alot longer

Interesting
I'm toying with the idea of going up a profile on my vanilla 996 c2. The 997 is basically the same car and they run a larger rear than front. I like the idea of having a bit more sidewall at the back. Currently running the standard 17 inch sized wheels and tyres.
Thank you for the replies, much appreciated. Will go with the Michelins. Just one further query, my can has been fitted previously with 225 front tyres but the link to the Porsche list of tyres posted above refers to both 225 and 235 section tyres. Does anyone know which is the better option?

Aargh, Kwik Fit now showing PS4S in rear for 996 turbo, but nothing for the 225/30/18 fronts
The PS2s on the front of mine are still pretty meaty anyway - it's the backs which don't have long for this world. I think I'll just put PS4S on the back and leave the front for now. Need to sort it for the winter rain.
Pretty sure you can get PS4S in 235 40 18. I'm tempted to try these [with 295 30] on my 996 narrow body if the rims are wide enough.

I also see PS5 available in 225 40 18 and 265 35 18 so that's another option for me on my 996 C2.
I am going to try a set of PS5 on my 996 C2 before the winter takes hold (same size as mine's an early one as well).

I've not forgotten about this. I had them fitted today but I've not yet had time to form an opinion as it was a very short drive home. I'll try and see how they are this weekend when I've done a suitably long stint in the car.

Impression from a week of varied driving, usually an hour or so in the car each time. Noticeably quieter than the PS4. Better wet/greasy road grip and seemed the same dry grip. Hope that helps.

It does thanks
I recently fitted some Continental Premium Contact 6 to another car and they are very impressive. I'm torn now between these and the PS5.

Hi lads. Any more feedback on the PS5 tyres ? I am considering them for my 996.
Thanks.
Not PS5s but you could also have a look at Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6. They're directly comparable and come out on top in a few metrics. Can't go wrong with either the Michelins or the Goodyears tbh.

PS4S would be more appropriate IMO - they are available in 996T sizes as I have four of them sitting here waiting to replace my worn PS2s!
Thanks for the reply. I assume i would need to go upto the 285 on the rear for a narrow bodied 996 as there doesn't seem to be a 265 available in the 4S.?

Ah I assumed you had a turbo - no idea on the smaller sizes sorry! I had normal PS4 on my 996c2 and even those were great TBH - 285 would be a hell of a wide rear for that car!

If you mean 285 30 then this is an odd ball size and not many tyre options available in this size. Much more 265 35 options which was used on E class Mercs. There are more options in 295 30 than 285 30 but you will need some wide rims for those. I have 285 30 on my NB and these were standard fit on the 996.2. Its tempting to think that an extra 10mm might squeeze on there fine as its only 5mm per edge. I'm still torn between going down to 265 35 on the 18 or up to 295 30. I think the 996.2 GT3 used 295 30 and 235 40.
