Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hi all, I wanted to retrofit my 987.2 Boxster S with PSE and recently bought the exhaust + wiring + switch panel kit. First I went to an independent shop but they were only able to do the mechanical installation, but not to get the PSE switch working. They told me the valve was left in open position and directed me to a Porsche dealer to do some programming and make the switch work. I did that and got the car from the dealer today. Was very surprised when turning PSE on/off didn’t appear to have any difference. I looked beneath the car and found the above(!). Looks like some genius used a wire to restrain the valve? Not sure I understand what this is doing, if it’s open or closed and if I can get it to work merely by cutting it? I intend to take the car back on Monday. But will appreciate any help (not sure if this may be damaging something). Thanks! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Does the button light up when pushed? Did the independent shop or dealer install the solenoid valve in the engine bay and the vacuum lines running to each of the exhaust valves? Is there wire on both valves, or just the one? Without the vacuum lines connected, the valves will stay open. Looks like someone secured the valves closed with wire to keep the exhaust in quiet mode. Remove the wire and the valve should spring open and make the exhaust louder. If everything else is installed correctly, if the programming was actually done by the dealer correctly, and if the exhaust valves are in good condition, then pushing the button should work as expected once you remove the wire.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
