Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Mine already had a DMS map which is nice so as long as it's from a reputable company then it should be fine - the use/abuse from the owner is also v important.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just sold m much loved 993 and its time to go back to a daily drive 911..hence the search for 996TT.
Lots of do's and dont's around so thought I would seek advice etc from those in the know. I have been told varying tales and would like to dispose of any myths in here
1. 2nd Hand Tip is more likely to be less trouble than manual - given harder to wreck the box. I prefer manual to a degree but not over the need to find a good car.
2. PCM is pretty rubbish and a liability but is good for re sale - but in 3 years how much is likely to be a deal breaker, considering it will be 10 years out of date
3. Buy only from reputable Porsche specialists, or get a damn good pre inspection...kind of obvious I guess
4. keep it standard, avoid all those with 'chips' etc.
5. take out a warranty of some sort.... OPC or does anyone know of better value ones?
All the above seems sensible but could do with any pointers in the buying area. plus if anyone has a good one ????
I have looked at a few and the prices do seem to vary for sure. My budget is about £38k but would like to keep a few £k back for unpleasant surprises in year one.
As i say any advice welcome... may as well pick the brains of those in the know!
Just goes to show, if its mint it will sell. The chap that's bought it has got himself a treasure !!! I have a horrible feeling in about 1 year I might be begging to buy it back. But sometimes you just have to do things no matter how mad they seem.
Lets have a 996 TT for a year and then see what mad mood takes me next.
I agree with smj996c.
I changed from a 993C4 c.4 years ago having deliberated over 993TT or 996TT for months. Eventually I went for a 996TT.
Initially I was a bit disappointed with the overly light steering and rubbery ride but everything else was great. A KWv3 kit transformed it.
I would definitely go for a manual (as mine is) but with a shortshift kit. The torque is huge and always available which makes it a very nice car to drive every day - in town or open road.
It covers great distances with ease and enjoyment.
I would recommend a PPI - It will almost definitely pull up brake discs and rads (unless they've just been done) and a warranty - at least for the first year. Mine needed a clutch as the miles were so low and it had dried out - exactly the same as my 993!
The PCM and the lesser CDR23 both sound cr@p so I wouldn't worry about that.

Have the DME checked for proper mileage too!
It took a while to grow on me but I am really pleased with it.
