They had replaced the clutch in mine before I brought it.

The only dilemma I have is do I use an OPC or Specialist :frustrated:

I was told by a specilist called Porticraft that the Porsche cluch just gets heavier as it wears and the bitting point doesn't change so sounds like your clutch needs replacing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Fellas
Since returning from Le Mans my clutch feels strange to say the least.
Before you all start having a pop I can assure you there were no burnouts, race starts - no sillyness. It just feels very heavy and all the bite is at the very top of the pedal. The miles are only 37,400 so would think a clutch is a bit early - it could be something else!!
Any help would be appreciated, I have had a look at prices for a clutch and locally Brookspeed will do one for £800 + vat. Is that reasonable? I have no idea.
i have just promised Chris that I will have my wheels done very soon so could do without a clutch change as that money is for my wheels!
Any ideas chaps?
Thanks, hope thats not the case!
I have been reading up on various forums and of the symptoms suggested I only have a faint smell after a "spirited" drive and the pedal is heavy. I don't get any shuddering and no slipping, could it be the cylinder?
It seems very odd considering its a 54 plate with 37,400 miles!
Does the engine need to be removed? Its a 3.6 C4S.
Thanks.
I'd be more concerned about the pedal "bite point" being right at the top of the travel. This could indicate wear in the friction plate.
For what it's worth, my clutch was replaced over a couple of years ago and I found the new clutch almost as heavy in pedal feel to the old one, I don't find it much of a problem to be honest. Mrs B hates it
my clutch needed replacing 5 months ago - C4S 04 plate - 45K miles on clock - the trouble is by the time its checked out on labour costs u might as well peplaced the clutch - not sure regarding the smell situation?
Thanks for all the advice.
My problem now is who to use?
i live in Southampton and use the car everyday, the prices I have so far as follows:
Brookspeed £800 + vat
Paragon £877 + vat
OPC bournemouth £1,000 - £1,100 + vat
RPM £768 + vat
RSJ £695 + vat
I have no idea - any recommendations gratefully recieved. Mr Clutch anyone??!!
Don't get too hung up on mileage. If a clutch needs replacing it needs replacing - mine needed doing at just 29k
Good indies should be able to tell by test driving if it needs replacing. JZM were spot on in my PPI when they told me my clutch was worn.
Just been down to Brookspeed and Mike there took me for a test drive. He said its showing early signs of wear but still a fair bit to go and not too much to worry about right now - maybe do it in a couple of months.
He did mention about the rubber do'nuts that in 9/10 cases are screwed by clutch time. He reckons they are between £400 - £500 in parts alone. Has anyone else had an unexpected £500 spank at clutch time?
Cheers
New Clutch
Dude, I have just found out that after a recent service on my C4S 2003 with only 24000mls on the clock that I need a new clutch, so dont let the mileage concern you.
I was quoted £1100 Inc Vat from OPC Sutton Coldfield with Hire Car.
The only dilemma I have is do I use an OPC or Specialist :frustrated:
Cheers
Just to let you know OPC Reading did it for me for £800 including vat WITH a courtesy car - as the clutch is a known problem they offset with some goodwill - ask - u dont lose anything
I was told by a specilist called Porticraft that the Porsche cluch just gets heavier as it wears and the bitting point doesn't change so sounds like your clutch needs replacing. They had replaced the clutch in mine before I brought it. 33k miles.
