Leading evidence: 'problem has been' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'problem has been' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run non stop' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

The exhaust fan on the right side seems to run non stop when the engine is running. Is this normal? Just went out to the garage and turned the ignition on (cold engine) no fan. Started engine, now fan is running, stopped engine, fan stopped.

POST 2Original post

should've done a search but that fan is to bring outside air into the engine compartment for cooling

POST 3Original post

I did a search and I understand what the fans for. So my question is the same, with a cold start should the fan come on? I had a Boxster for almost 5 years and the fan would only cycle on in summer months in stop and go traffic. Thanks for your reply.

POST 4Original post

Cold engine.....doesn't sound normal. Try a cold start with A/C off and one with A/C on. See if that makes any diff. I believe the running of the fan is regulated by sensors, so it should not come on until it is needed, but may be different with the A/C switched on.

POST 5Original post

Good idea, I just tried a cold start with AC off and the fan still came on. I think I have a bad temp sensor or a bad relay. I'm calling the dealer Monday to make an appointment. 250+ miles round trip to the dealer sucks. Thanks for the reply

POST 7Original post

This is a "necro" thread - one that the last reply was 14 years ago. I suspect the problem has been solved by now. Or the owner no longer owns the car. Or the owner is dead (last seen in 2014). The state of the AC switch would make no difference in this case - the fan being discussed is the engine compartment one which is controlled by a thermostatic sensor in the engine compartment. The AC condenser fans are also the radiator fans - and there are 2 of them in the nose of the car. They have nothing to do with the fan that was being discussed.
