Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone, When I bought my GT3 early last year I planned to sell my Oak Green MK2 Golf GTi 16v 3dr, but having trouble parting with it as I still love driving it, it still brings a huge smile to my face when I drive it. I also have a 79 Bay window VW camper that I will never sell, had it for years, The GT3 has the WOW factor every time I open the garage door and take it out and will prob be with me a long time also. Im in my 50s now and to me i have my ideal garage. (apart from a mk1 escort RS2000) What other classic/sports cars does anyone else own and why? Obviously if your on here I should imagine that you are all petrol heads like myself. Be interesting to find out peoples tastes.

POST 2Original post

964 to go with my GT3 perfect mix of old and new for me

POST 3Original post

My issue with proper classics is that it is a case of never meet your heroes! I've almost always been disappointed. Remember driving a a late '70s Aston Vantage and it was terrifying to drive; no brakes or handling to speak of! Even when it comes to more 'modern classics' such as the Vanquish S we had; beautiful thing but a pain to live with and in the end just didn't get used. Same with a list of others... As a result, can really see the appeal of something like a Singer - essentially a modern car with the body/looks of old. I'm too inpatient to view foibles as 'character' - i just like driving the nuts off my cars! As such, absolutely adore VW Campers but would never own one..!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

VW camper is awesome unless you want to go anywhere in a hurry..!!! Seriously though its more than just a vehicle, its also a lifestyle, completely de stresses you, cant beat watching the sun go down with a cold cider in your hand during the summer in a field of other campers, Only downside is wherever you go everyone wants to stop and talk about it, even a quick trip to the garage for fuel can take half an hour on some occasions. But different strokes for different folks we cant all be the same. That's why I was interested in other peoples tastes in cars.

Man after my own heart.!! Loving the mk1 had one many moons ago great car mine was a 1980 1600 but one of the first with the 5sp box, Mars Red, now its bringing back some memories, Had many years of Opel Mantas after that, inc a rare Rothmans i200 and one I built to i240 spec and was featured in the very first issue of Total Vauxhall magazine, way back abt 14 years ago. Also had a very rare Courtney Turbo manta 1 of only 6 new ones built, 240 BHP with water injection and that was featured in Retro cars about 5 years ago.

POST 9Original post

Great taste indeed. I always thought the mk2 GTi had the edge on a mk1 personally. both are such a fun car to drive. I put a load of effort into one then sold it......why oh why did i do that. So hard to find an un molested example now.

POST 10Original post

very nice Dan looks nice & tight ! agreed the mk2 did have many advantages but by the time the 90spec big bumper cars were out the weight creeped up and that lightness was key to the earlier car.... built this Corrado 10 years ago.. very special car & sorely missed .. 380hp & 1090kgs

POST 12Original post

Cracker that Mars mk1. Loving the Corrado too, I had a VR6 rado for a couple of years, what a noise on WOT. Want a old golf again now.....current daily is a mK 6 with K04 ~ 300bhp ish.

POST 13Original post

Nice combo and oak green is still the business. Love the mk1 & 2 gti, heres my old 8v with my 205. Wished i still had both. Wonderful wonderful cars that could teach many a modern performance car a thing or two.

POST 14Original post

smoking that mars red 1.8 kev !! ... red always eluded me, had black x2 silver campaign & white.... looks like a late 1.9 205 on a J plate rich ??

POST 15Original post

Thanks Ade,they are great cars to have a lot of fun at sensible speeds in.Its my third one,had this one for 12 years now.

The R to live with is awesome, and only owners of them will know this, and we now see this with every new owner which I might add is a common site on here now. nothing and I mean nothing to touch the R for 40k as a all round driving machine.

Yes there is, the 1 M coupe is just as quick, just as grippy, and just as fun to drive, it has four seats, a boot and over 400hp is easily available if you're willing to risk your warranty. As can be seen, their residuals aren't too shabby either. Best you hurry back to your thread to join the many kexperts guessing/discussing the GT4's spec ad infinitum over the next what ? 3-4 months ? Truly gripping stuff I'm sure ......... Really not sure what the attraction of trying to second guess what the car's final spec will be from individuals/publications/websites who've no idea themselves ? ? ? As we know from all the teeth gnashing over the 991 GT3's PDK 'box, nothing anyone posts on said thread will make a blind bit of difference to the final spec of the end product. And as for some individuals getting irritated at "their" thread getting derailed ...... Hellooooo, every bit of information gleaned until the car's launched (or it's final details are leaked/officially released pre-launch) is conjecture for goodness sake.

mrdemon said: nothing and I mean nothing to touch the R for 40k as a all round driving machine. Sorry to disappoint you but my Q7 is a way better "all round driving machine" for starters. In the last 2 weeks its carried 7 people, an 8ft christmas tree, a fortnights worth of booze and shopping, driven through a ton of mud, over road works and knackered up roads including an official diversion that took me across a pavement at 90 degrees with no ramp, through snow, through massive puddles, over a football pitch and all the while leaving me comfortable, warm and dry while the radio blasts away with lovely clear sound and the sat nav guides me along. None of these events are particularly special. Its just stuff that that I encountered while driving around. Not once, save for the christmas tree, was there a moment where I had to think at all about what was going on or fart around trying to compensate. If anything was to be worthy of the clarkson-esque title of "all round driving machine......of the world" it would be it. The "R" is a sports car that you presently have a permanent chub over. Its great it makes you excited (more folks could do with driving cars that made them excited) but temper your enthusiasm a little with at least a semi grip on reality and a realization that an opinion is just that. And like bum holes, every one has one.

I always have an inward chuckle when journos review modern hot hatches and supercars - it's all about the numbers now. For me the 90s and early 2000s were a sweet spot for the marriage between chassis and tech. Then cars just turned into laser-guided computers.

Agreed. I recently bought an F10 M5 for everyday and work duties. Its an incredible modern machine and insanely fast ... perfect for what I want from it. But its reaffirmed for me that my next 'drivers car keeper' purchase will most likely not be from the modern era. As much as the likes of the Speciale/991RS appeal, I may well find myself going further backwards over what I already have (e.g. 964RS, 3.2CS).

I've got quite a similar garage to the OP; a GT3RS, a car from the VAG group(B7 Audi RS4 Avant) and a VW camper. For me its now the perfect garage and one which I am very unlikely to want to change for a very long time, its taken me long enough to get here! I've only just got the Porsche recently which has always been my ultimate car I'd aspired to own. I'd half planned to sell the RS4 to fund it but just couldn't bring myself to do it. However, after doing the man maths (which SWMBO agreed with) I am able to keep both. The GT3RS is simply fantastic and everything I'd hoped it would be,its a low miles standard car with the exception of a Sharkwerks exhaust. I can't believe its taken me so long to get my first Porsche. It's now garaged away safely away for the winter and I can't wait for the spring to come. The RS4 Avant I've had for almost 5 years and absolutely love it in every way, it does so many things so well. It came well specced with ceramic brakes and SS suspension, plus I've spent a few years adding subtle bits and pieces to it and finally finished it off with an awesome and very expensive TTS supercharger. After remapping, it now produces over 600bhp, which endows it with truly incredible performance, indeed the GT3RS feels slow after driving the Audi! The T5 camper is another motor I wish I'd bought years ago, its just so great to be able to jump in it and head off anytime for a wee break. It's a T5 4motion 2.0 tdi remapped to 200BHP and with a full campervan conversion including a pop up roof. Being an ex demo vehicle for a custom T5 builder, it came loaded with lots of goodies, both cosmetic and practical. [/url]
