Suggestion

The best way on a mountain bike MTB for short is to reduce weight, reduce drag by better bearings and running gear and to go faster down the hills with better suspension and brakes to carry more speed and rider wisdom and confidence to ride that burm or corner flat out.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have read many articles, about the real output of modification for Porsche 996 2001 - 3.4, and all of the writer having the same conclusion, (doesn't worth the $money) Less hp gain, but more $$money spent. Even one of them said, If you replace the headers/mufflers, you are going to loss the tourque especially on the 2nd. gear. The induction kit, said it gived noise, only (pain with no gain). Anyone has a different idea, Please let me know.

POST 2Original post

I did several mods on my previous 996, however with the benefit of hindsight the only mods i would suggest are Short Shift Kit Decent Geometry Set up PSE (for the aural pleasure but not essential) Driver Training and enjoy - Simon

POST 3Original post

:agree: You don't mention what you want from the car other than lots more power and the only sensible way to do that is to buy a more powerful one!

POST 4Original post

I used to compete in national mountain biking competitions... so whats this got to do with the post about 996 mods... here goes... On a mountain bike to go faster you can either get fit eat lentils, have no sex and loose weight or you can make some mods to the bike... The best way on a mountain bike MTB for short is to reduce weight, reduce drag by better bearings and running gear and to go faster down the hills with better suspension and brakes to carry more speed and rider wisdom and confidence to ride that burm or corner flat out. SO to translate this into 996 speak... the engine is far fast enough raw power isnt the answer... Loose some weight... reduce the drag and learn how to drive it. Suggest suspension upgrade... better brakes ... carbon fibre panels ... proper car set up and driver training this will beat any numpty with double the horse power who just points and squirts.... I found this out rallying in the late 80s... Little guys in well set up little cars wipping rich guys in very expensive full on racers. The great thing is with a 996 you can buy everything you need off USA ebay and make your machine a part of you just like my MTB... thats my plan for my 996 once the recession kicks OUT! in the mean time just got to put up with a boring old 996!

POST 6Original post

Not heard this one before - I take it all the other gears are just fine then ? :?: PSE is a fantastic mod for grin factor alone, since no BHP advantage is gained, just the aural quality of the exhaust note makes for a more interesting drive :thumb:
