Have used a harborfreight aluminum jack for years on a variety of cars and trucks and very satisfied user. I recently bought these aluminum jack stands that worked GREAT for the 996.

Suggestion
HF is good but QC isn't consistent so you just have to check the jack before you use it for the first time as it may require bleeding.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need a recommendation for a good floor jack that has low clearance and will work with an adaptor to fit my 2002 911 996. Would like to get one that is aluminum or aluminum and steel to reduce weight. I saw an aluminum jack adaptor on Amazon or a jack plate adaptor. Not sure what to use. I also need some recommendations for jack stands. What kind should I get and where should they be placed to keep from damaging anything.
Thanks for your help!

The rear glass has delamination going down the driver side
The shifter is a mis-matched wood to the birds eye on the dash and console, it would probably be ideal to add a stock vinyl e500 shifter

Two wheel bolts out of the original set are missing. These are NLA from benzand I have not found 2 yet, however Im sure it wouldnt be difficult to find apair of bolts on the forums or ebay if searched for enough
The car shows and drives really nicely, no rock chips on the front end, paint shines amazingly with the C-quart sealant applied, seats were treated with leatherique and are in really nice shape (no bolster wear.) Esco jack stands are excellent. Really in a different league then most auto-parts-store or Sears type jackstands, and the only ones I personally trust when sliding under the car. The flat rubber-top ones are perfect for placing under the factory jack points.
Not inexpensive, but crushed ribs cost a bunch too...

For floor jacks, the HF low profile jacks work well and have lasted me years. For jack points, use the factory side body points or the rear suspension cross member. Again, do NOT get under the car with just a floor jack supporting it.
Love these cars - hope you find a TX buyer!
Curious though, what does this mean? "The stock head unit WAS and IS NOT included". Is the stock head unit included or not?
You could always go cheap and get the Harbor Freight Low Profile Aluminum Racing Jack.

I have had good luck with Harbor Freight floor jacks, but haven't used this particular model.
BTW, I've never seen a jack race, but suspect that this racing jack never won any of the races since they didn't mention it...
Exactly what Mpowered stated, sorry if that came off as confusing. Also, I am willing to trade up or down let me know what you have. Car, motorcycle, watch, it doesn't matter. I don't need 2 500e Mercedes sitting around, 1 is enough. Thanks!

I just ordered the Schwaben from ECS today. How funny! Have heard great things about it.
For stands, I'm looking into the JackPoints. They run around $300 for a pair, but also include the discs. They have this cool system where the stand slips right under the jack point. A genius idea.

Is that right? $33 for 4 jack stands?
The only thing that concerns me is that part of it seems to be made from cast aluminum yet the load rating says 6k lbs.
I don't post much on this forum, but had to comment that this car is awesome. Wish I was in the market to pick it up, and it's local! One day......GLWS

My question was directed out of curiosity to the guy that actually has them and used them. I already have a full assortment of jacks and jack stands and don't plan on getting anything anytime soon.
This has been working really well for me and gives me plenty of room for my creeper.
Quote:
This is one of the ones in my arsenal too. HF is good but QC isn't consistent so you just have to check the jack before you use it for the first time as it may require bleeding.
Quote:
Yeah, clearly, our life is worth more than the cars we work on.
But what are you basing your opinion that these are unsafe on? Just the fact they are inexpensive? Or do you have any other facts/reviews?
Quote:
Looking at the JackPoints, they have a top pin that goes into the hole on the car jack point, plus that disk locks into the jack base. That car is locked in and not going anywhere.
Plus the JackPoints are right on the factory jacking spots. I'm just using common sense logic.
I don't think the $33 set of 4 Amazon ones will collapse, but I wouldn't be caught under a car with them either personally. With a hard push on the car, who knows??
Quote:
Incorrect, it works exactly the opposite way. The disc fits on the car's jack point quite well, and the pin goes into threads on the jack stand.
Working under any car held up by anything at home is dangerous. Just because something costs hundreds of dollars doesn't make it safer than inexpensive alternatives. I have seen threads about "where can I buy Porsche approved jacks" etc. before and always chuckled.
Unless of course, you want to be the stereotypical Porsche or luxury car owner. "my stuff is expensive, so it must be good"
Quote:
It's your car my friend. Do what floats your boat. Your Amazon jacks says they're for RV's. There's many options out there, stereotypical or not!
Quote:
I'd say the first concern would be that the company specifically says they are NOT for use as work jack stands, only for leveling...
Wouldn't be too worried for tire/brake work, but no way I'd be sliding under the car to work on the engine supported only by those.
my question is, if you're jacking up the car at the jack point, then where do you station the jack stand? You can't put it under the jack point since that's where the jack is.
Quote:
Most don't follow initial bleeding procedures as one of the causes. Most of their jacks recommends bleeding them first in the instructions. However most people do not know or follow this and some get lucky for awhile. Hence some peeps attribute it to a failure rather than proper setup. Not saying yours wasn't a failure though.
The first one I bought, I bled. Failed on the first day; after one full cycle with weight, it wouldn't lift a BMW 2002.
Most of them have some failure within the first two years. So I get the extended warranty and just keep trading them in. I have one right now from 2012 (which handled the LS1 swap), the other is about 6 months old and is doing good so far. While it's a bit of a PITA to trade them in when things go wrong, for the price, it's worth the effort.
I have never been a fan of aluminum (for safety reasons). But if you consider steel, I have been happy with this Granger unit. Whatever you do, stay away from the Sears product. Perhaps I have been unlucky with Craftsman, but all 3 units have failed on me a few weeks after warranty.
