My driver side window is acting up. I suspect it the mechanism (gears maybe?) that's worn (12+ year old car).
It made a weird knocking sound going up and down a couple of days back and just now, pushing the lever to wind up, it went down instead and I now have to hold the lever up until it fully winds up. The window dip when opening the door was irratic as well.
Has anyone changed this part before? Appreciate a part number and also if there is a Volkswagen equivalent that works (and is cheaper)?
Thanks.
I had the exact same behavior years ago on my 986
Boxster
as it aged. First the window wouldn't dip when opening the door so it would catch and flip the top of the glass. Then the window would randomly change directions when moving it one way or the other. Its was the window regulator that had to be replaced, but I have no idea if there is a similar VW equivalent for the 987? You might get lucky as they do tend to use similar parts between the different models in these areas
Thanks for the reply. Yeah. Its the regulator so I've found out too.
Have found OEM replacements parts too.
Trust all well with you.
Great! Yes, I am doing well and keeping busy with lots of work travel.
OP, please post part# and any other useful info on fixing the issue, so others can benefit as well. Thanks!

I;m not doing it myself but heres one of several youtube vids on how to change it.
I have done this repair on my car. It's not too bad...getting the door card off is a chore, though. Get yourself some good plastic pry tools made for this kind of thing. After that, the biggest challenge is getting the regulator into the inside of the door. It has to go through a smallish hole so some twisting and fiddling are required. Nothing terrible, though, if you have good tools and some wrenching experience it can be done in 2 hours or less.
Hi there wmclarenf1, hope things in SG are going well...
I recently posted my experience changing my driver's side regulator (2nd time) which you may have missed.

you will find the part number on the picture I posted (towards the right on the V shaped plastic).
Edit: I did a search for the part number and here you go neighbour.....pelican lists out the OEM versions as well. According to pelican the new revision number ends with 03 instead of 01 in my pics.
