Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

But on track I used my left foot and arms to stay in place and keep from sliding around.
Leading evidence: 'Use left foot and arms' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best option' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run sub strap' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

with sport buckets then sold them for $5,500 (or more) then bought used sport seats for $1,500 or less.

If you dont have them already and want to switch, going aftermarket is probably the best option.

1st was standard but I suspect majority of Rs and Spyders were ordered with Sport seats (no cost option).

Suggestion
Do the sport buckets have a slot between the bottom cushions to run a sub strap for harnesses?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You'll likely find that many Rs that were ordered for dealer lots were ordered with the sport seats (not sport buckets), presumably for the non-track enthusiast. The buckets aren't heat-able the sport seats were.
I have the sport seats and really like them.
Do I miss not having buckets on the track? Yes, but the rest of the time I appreciate the ease of access and the comfort of the sport seats.
I have AC, and
PCM 3.0
Nav/ entertainment, also.
Does this mean I am not a track enthusiast? I have passed many a car with bucket seats.
When the
GT3
and
911
guys come round to see what my car is packin I get to tell them "oh this is my date night car with its heated leather seats and AC"...
Sport Buckets are part of what defines the car. If you didn't order them you're to fat and lazy. If you didn't have the opportunity to choose, you missed out.
I ordered my R with sport seats. Will save the shell style seats for my club racer. Wife really likes the sport seats, they make the most sense for a street car.
Either seat is a compromise. I have both. For street driving the sport seats are comfortable with wide adjustment range. But on track I used my left foot and arms to stay in place and keep from sliding around. The buckets are better on the track and for me pretty comfortable on the street. They are more difficult to get in and out of. Also the adjustment is limited to fore and aft only. They sit higher than the lowest setting on the sport seats. I'm 6-1 but if I was 1 in taller I would touch the roof with a helmet on. For anyone shopping for an R, the seats are an important consideration. Retrofitting the sport buckets is costly.
Also add in the "cool factor" of the sport buckets. Everyone that has seen them in my CR has commented on the seats. They are awesome on the track and a bargain price if purchased with the car. If you dont have them already and want to switch, going aftermarket is probably the best option. OEM is crazy expensive IMO.

Sport buckets = fantastic and $$$$ if you want to upgrade to later on. Bit of a PITA to get in & out in a DD, I must admit.
$6,500-9,000 cost made them a no-brainer IMO, but unfortunately many (mostly dealers) didn't see it that way. Think of it this way: if you wanted sport seats you could've ordered an R/
Spyder
with sport buckets then sold them for $5,500 (or more) then bought used sport seats for $1,500 or less.
Other pluses? GT2 sport buckets have lateral/side airbags.
GT3
and aftermarket seats do not. Sport buckets also fold forward for engine/pulley/belt access (987/
981
) and rear seat access (
911
).
End of discussion.
Do the sport buckets have a slot between the bottom cushions to run a sub strap for harnesses?
As a side note, while I think the SBs are very cool, I don't know that I could live with them on a daily basis. They do seem to make it rather difficult getting into the car (more than out of) from the times I have sat in an R/
Spyder

I love the sports buckets and I'm 72. When I had my NSX I had to remove the seat cushion to get enough head room. That effectively gave me a bucket seat but it wasn't as comfortable as this one.
Getting out is more of a problem than getting in, but once you're in why would you ever want to get out!
After 1.5 years of driving my CR with sport buckets I noticed, that I can't get in and out of a "normal" car like I used to.
Since I'm 6"3 I have to duck (& cover
) to get in and do some kind of getting out procedure. Works perfectly, but I got used to it.
Now, when I want to step in or out another car, I always act like there is no space. Very strange!
The sport buckets look great and are very nice for aggressive driving, but I don't find them comfortable for more than about an hour or two at a time. Not unbearable by any means, but they pinch your shoulders in pretty far. Perfect when in full attack mode, but not being able to roll your shoulders back gets old on longer trips. Same for non-adjustable back-rest and lumbar.
I had a similar set-up in my Lotus Elise with the same results. Great for real driving, much less so for touring/longer drives, and a big no way for a daily driver.
Luckily the seats work fine for my
Cayman
's primary function as a weekend warrior/fun car, but there is no way I would spec them for a daily driver.
