I don't believe that replacing the main seal is a big job once you are replacing the clutch but it can also be signs of a bigger problem (i.e.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone, I just received my new Sash clutch plate, disc and bearing kit and will be changing it on the weekend.. I'm surprised really that the clutch disc is really thin for such power.. I just want to ask, is there any way that any of the oils (engine, transmission, steering, brake, etc..) could leak through and seep inside the clutch/plate housing area to make the disc slip? Or is the slip only caused by a worn clutch disc? Just before I really start dismantling, any special notes anyone can tell since i'll be doing this through a local mechanic (no dealers for porsche in this country.. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" /> ) Wael 996 99 C2

POST 2Original post

It is quite common for high performance clutches to be very small. It acts as a flywheel so smaller/ligher is better. Racing clutches are often very tiny. Use it right and it will last. Yes, oil leaks from the main seal can cause clutch slippage. You can usually see oil around the area where the clutch is when this happens. It would take a lot of leakage to cause this. I don't believe that replacing the main seal is a big job once you are replacing the clutch but it can also be signs of a bigger problem (i.e. why did the seal fail?). S.
