OK, I went down to my local Porsche dealer to place an order and was talked out of it.
The main reason was that I must have long legs (30 - 32 inseam which I don't think is that long) and found that my leg was a little cramped and possibly switching between brake and accelerator pedals might be a little tough. On the other hand, the 911 was very comfortable for me.
The sales guy basically suggested that I wait until I can test drive one. As I can only drive a Tip, I have to wait for one to become available or drive a Boxster S with a Tip. Unfortunately, not even that was available.
He also talked me out of full leather and the CD Changer!
Just in case anyone wants to ask me who this was, I'd rather not identify him as he might get in trouble for being so honest with me.
My legs are longer than yours and they seem to work o.k. in the Cayman without yet driving it. But I do think now that you are this close to being able to drive the real thing that if there is doubt you should wait and take advantage of that as well as all the reports from owners who get their cars first.
By the way the cd changer comes with the preferred package plus and if those options are desired the cd-changer is just a 'throw-in' when you price them out. As to full leather my personal feeling is that your sales guy is wrong.
They didn't have a full leather Boxster to show me. They had a 911 and it wasn't impressive enough to justify $2100. My main reason for originally considering it was that I didn't want the metalic looking sides or backs on the regular seats. Unless he was wrong, the regular seats don't have that, just the sport seats. Is he wrong there? The PCNA car had regular seats and it had the Alcantara (sp?) and it looked fine to me.
Yeah, I calculated that. I don't (think I) really need the heated seats or the rain sensor/self-dim mirrors either and if you take those out along with the CD Changer, that makes the other options cost $7100. Thus, the three missing pieces will cost $900. If I think I want just ONE of those three then I should go for the whole package.
hsjb,
The full leather option I think, really depends on the color of the interior you intend to get. If you get a dark one, especially black, the vinyl that covers the non-leather parts looks pretty good, imho. The lighter you get in color, the more you need the full leather - the texture of the vinyl and the leather in the lighter colors don't match all that well.
rIf you're going to use this as a daily driver, depending on your commute length, you might want to think about the self-dimming mirrors (the rain sensor comes along) because the car will sit a lot lower than you're probably used to, and those SUV headlights hit right into your side mirrors. The feature came standard on my turbo, and they work great, and I'm not being blinded by every SUV behind me, like I was in my 1999 996.

I agree with both your statements. The black vinyl dash doesn't look bad at all. It keeps the interior "techy" looking. My guess is that if I decide to place an order, I will nix the full leather but get the full package even if I don't end up using the CD Changer.
I'd give it another try on the cramped legs part. I thought it was fine and I am a bit picky it that department. You are right the regular seats have a back matching the seat whereas the sports seats do not. I like the contrast myself, except if on a silver car (not such what color you are getting) and then I prefer the black. I think the stitching is actually what makes most of the other colors of leather look rich, so look at the dash and see what you prefer.
Also, your dealer sounds a little weird.
I think as you will find out, sometimes being talked out of something is not such a good thing /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/regular_smile.gif I was talked out of the sport steering wheel - all I can say, read read read read and ask questions here and by the time you place your order you will walk out knowing you made the right choices. For sure wait few days to test drive the car - after all you have a benefit of something that many people here did not - take advantage of it /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbsup.gif
I just pray that there's a Tip Cayman S that I can test drive!
hsjb,
Go to some of the other Bay area dealers' web siters and take a look at their inventory... Sonnen and Carlsen should have Tip Boxsters for sure for you to try out...
