I say go for the Bi-Xenon - it is one option I won't change even when others are on the chopping block.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have placed deposit on black basalt and am waiting to get build date. I was planning to order without bi-xenons as I don't do much night driving. I am starting to second guess this decision tho. Is there any difference in the exterior appearance of the car/ and or the headlights if I go without bi-xenons. And what are some opinions on this decision. Seems to be an expensive option if I do little night driving. Can I get some opinions and advice?

POST 2Original post

I got it for two reasons: 1) resale 2) they are amazing at night compatire to 'normal' headlight. I know it's expensive, but whenever you drive at night they are worth it (to me)

POST 3Original post

There is a long discussion here if you search for it. (I think they are required by the way).

POST 4Original post

The non xenon lights do look a little different - they lack that aort of 'projector behind the glass look' if you will. Personally, I think it's a no-brainer option... the difference from the driver's seat is that different. brad

POST 5Original post

If I added only one option to a base Cayman it would be Bi-Xenon. A necessity in my book...

POST 6Original post

Ditto re: lighting improvement if you do ANY night driving. The only visual clue is the addition of the domed, chrome headlight washer nozzles just in front of the headlights. Are bi-xenons a waste of $1090? Bi-Xenon vs. Halogens headlights <input width="400" type="image" height="172" src="/UserFiles/Bi-Xenon.jpg" /> Edited by - lizardS on 01/08/2006 12:53:51 PM

POST 7Original post

I say go for the Bi-Xenon - it is one option I won't change even when others are on the chopping block.

POST 8Original post

I seldom drive at night and thought the cost was excessive so did not order. Little risk of theft in my areas so that was not a factor. Also recent resale of heavily optioned '89 951 convinced me that such options are not much of a consideration for many buyers of olderpre-owned Porsches.

POST 9Original post

Time will tell, but I think you're underestimating the value of HID lighting come resale time. It is an important improvement in a safety area, especially for those 40+ with 'aging eyes.' I expect a significant segment of the potential resale market would pass on a car without it. My sense is that most Caymans will have factory bi-xenon.

POST 10Original post

Bi Xenons are a must, we have them in our BMW and the Cayman , we also own a PT cruiser without them and I tell you the difference is proounced. For added safety, there is no substitute. You will not regret it.

POST 11Original post

I like them but did not order because there is a lot of theft of these lights in my area. I am still scared that the crooks won't know the difference.

POST 12Original post

Check the survey on the home page, Xenons are very popular.

POST 13Original post

I am for the Bi-Xenon's, but to justify them for resale is not a leap I will take with the rest of you. Perhaps it is better than some of the other options, but I would be surprised to see them at more than 50% of retail cost on a chart for even a one year old car. Edmunds shows them at a $325 trade-in value on a '05 Boxster. That seems a little low to me, but you get the point. Most all options are really for you, so don't make the mistake of thinking they will make you real money on resale, just get it if you think you want it and use it. POST 14Original post

I can't think of any option that returns more than a fraction of its cost, but some options enhance marketability because they are more universally desired & very few buyers would not want a car that had that option. I think bi-xenons is one of those options vs say, a wood trimmed interior or a paint to sample pink car.

POST 15Original post

i chose to get the bi-xenon lights as it will greatly help me with my night driving and they look sweet as well

POST 16Original post

One thing to remember is the repair cost of these lights. If one burns out after warranty #$%$###*&%$$$. The other thing is that when driving my GT3 with bixenon I had alot and I mean alot of oncomming traffic flashing their brights at me. This is not cool after a while....until you scorch their retinas by hitting your brites.

POST 17Original post

It was the Bose or the Bi-Xenons, I took the Bose. Most of my night driving is short distance and minimal. If I had the extra cash I would have got them without hesitation, loved them on my BMW. Russ

I find that with Xenons I can see all those small potholes and other loose items on the road, and can avoid them much easier, in the process saving the car from damage - had them on my BMW and would not go without them.
