The car drove fine for the first couple hundred miles then I got a misfire code for cylinder 8 I pulled the plug and it was fouled bad other spark plugs looked fine, did a compression check on all the cylinders everything it within spec.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Going to change out my spark plugs and wondering what the consensus is on dielectric grease? From what I've read Porsche doesn't recommend using it but I've read that many in general have had no complaints. Anyone with experience on a 996 can chime in on this issue? Thank you in advance.

POST 2Original post

I just bought the car from a dealer earlier this month (no warranty/my loss **** happens) with 55,000 miles on it. The car drove fine for the first couple hundred miles then I got a misfire code for cylinder 8 I pulled the plug and it was fouled bad other spark plugs looked fine, did a compression check on all the cylinders everything it within spec. I checked the Air-Oil separator and the diaphragm seemed fine. Kinda stumped right now. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Worst comes to worse if anyone knows of any good shops in the Baltimore, MD area would be great.

POST 3Original post

I'd go with what Porsche recommends, no grease. I've never heard of anyone having issues with the connection from the coil to the plug (once they have snapped on completely).

POST 5Original post

No grease but with that said I find myself dabbing a bit of anti seize by habit sometime. I figure if it's gonna be in there for the next 75-100k, it can only help on the next extraction attempt. The metals used in the new spark plugs aren't suppose to corrode like the old ones hence the reason why you don't need to apply anything.

POST 6Original post

I thought my diaphragm was ok too until further and much closer inspection. It had a hairline split that was barely noticeable. Lifted off manifold cover and intake valves were a horror story of sludge. I bought the car like this, unfortunately. Discovered 4 valves weren't seating. Cleaned intake valves as best I could. Installed a $14 oil can separator and within 2 weeks 2 valves re-seated themselves. The suction is crazy on these engines, but that's why they are so powerful.

POST 7Original post

rzmnco, did you ever figure out your issues, my #4 and #8 plugs a more fouled than the rest, and its running a bit rough. Curious what the vacuum should be on the 4.5 and 4.8 turbos?

POST 8Original post

I have the nt530 and think diag…both have Aston Martin software..seems to cover most stuff…

POST 9Original post

Anyone have a possible answer to plugs 4 and 8 being more fouled, and showing more mis fire codes than all the other cylinders?
