Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just had my windows tinted. Much to my anger, the tint film around the permitter of the back window, which I now find out is called the "dot matrix", did not adhear cleanly. It looks horrible. The guy who did the tinting said this happens on all of the 996s he does (he was recommended by my local dealership). He has indicated that if he removes the film and replaces it, he has a 50/50 chance of it looking acceptable. Has anyone else had that experience?

POST 2Original post

It seems that a bunch of cars have the dot matrix effect going on the rear window. Because this effect is painted onto the surface of the glass it is difficult/impossible to get the tint film to adhere properly. I have heard of some shops trying to scrape this off... not something I would want to try. Give the film some time to cure to the glass, this will often solve a lot of perceived problems. If not take it back then, any reputable tint shop should stand behind it. Cure time can take up to a month depending on temps and sun exposure. Hope this helps

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the feedback. The tint guy indicated he could "sand the dots down" to make it stick better. I clearly told him I didn't want that done! It will be interesting to see if the re-tint helps.
