I swapped a 991 paddle-wheel into my 987.2
PDK
car. Paddles work instantly - but the lighted lettering for "Sport", "Sport Plus" and "
Launch
Control" don't work. I asked a shop I've used in the past about doing a bit of
PIWIS
work to enable the lights (others have done it - so it's doable) - and they quoted me $150 for what appears to be about 20 minutes work. $150 is more than some fun lights are worth.
So - looking for a
PIWIS
in NJ. Any leads would be welcomed!
Do the button features still work, they just don't illuminate?
And your horn works?
$150 is cheap.
Sheesh ...

Apparently, you have no idea what I'm talking about. So it's not a surprise your answer is nonsense and insulting.
The 991 sport wheel doesn't have buttons. It has two paddles to control the
PDK
- left one downshifts, right one upshifts. The wiring for it is identical to the original wobble-spoke wheel (has switches on the end of the horizontal spokes.) The original wheel looks like:
This was the original wheel.

This is the Sport-Design wheel (off a 991) which has paddles for the PDK shifting. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The two center panels on the horizontal spokes have illuminated lettering in them. Left side is "Sport" "Sport Plus", right side is "Launch Control" - these are supposed to light up when my Sport or Sport Plus button is pressed, but apparently a bit needs changing in the TCU. Another person here had this done when he made the change - it took his friend with a PIWIS 15 minutes to do. If you consider $10/minute as reasonable you're a much wealthier person than I am. And the horn works fine. No reason for it not to - that's the airbag from my original wheel.
One thing I've always liked on most automotive forums is how people will go out of their way to help other people out. Apparently, you don't quite understand that concept and simply blurt out some meaningless questions and then proceed to insult me. That's perfectly fine - that's why the "Ignore" button is here - your posts will never be seen by me, and I doubt if I'll miss anything important.
wow.
if you do ignore this, well it leaves some fun for the others.
what a colossal dickhead. I was referring to the SPORT button on your dash - if depressed do these functions still work/
nothing to do with the illumination in the steering wheel.
yes, I am FULLY aware that there are illumiated SPORT and SPORT PLUS left and right side that light up if programmed.
JFC man, get off your entitled high horse.
and I'm the problem that you can't appreciate how much a
PIWIS
machine costs and the operating costs of a business to take your car inside and do the "10 minutes" of coding needed.
Do you work for free?
I bet with your fleet in your signature you aren't making $10/hr
So calm down mon chum and stop flying off the deep end.
Be lucky someone in your area can actually code the stuff, because I have to drive ten hours round trip to have mine coded.
sheesh.
what a douche.
Edit - the remark i made about the horn working is a legitimate issue with some who make this steering wheel swap.
Some work.
Some don't.
So if that offends you..... you don't wanna know the fleet of expletives I really wanted to type....

I like Bodymotion in Ocean Township. They specialize in Porsche and they’ve done well by me. They might charge you for 30 minutes. Maybe $65 or so.
Actually - Ace gave me the $150 quote. As I said to him - fun lights really aren't worth that much. It's not like they actually do anything. I'm always in sport mode once the engine is warm.
