Dealers are struggling to get allocations to meet demand, they are also really struggling to get used car stock.

The manufacturer makes nothing from the sale of used cars but will want a high priced used market to protect the high selling price of new cars.

I was told last month that there was no change and q2 was still expected.
Can anyone explains how does the allocation works for 911. Does Porsche issues certain numbers of each model to each dealer every month/couple of months/quarter. And do the dealers always go by the waiting list or bump the people they know? Just looking to get some insight into this. Thanks
As I understand it a dealer is allocated a certain number of cars er model. Each car can then be specced by the customer as they wish.
Other than that it is pot luck as my local dealer got a shed load of cars this quarter and the promise of more next year but who knows

It's a frustrating process and really tests ones patience. But to answer your questions, and as far as I know:
1) Does Porsche issue certain numbers of each model to each dealer every month/couple of months/quarter?
Answer: YES
2) Do the dealers always go by the waiting list or bump the people they know?
Answer: This is the frustrating part in my opinion and not fair. Once dealers get their allocation from Porsche AG, it is entirely up to the dealer who they give the allocations to. My Dealer Principle has absolutely assured me that they work to the date a signed order form was received by them, so allocations are given in date order which seems right and fair. Unfortunately, not all dealers work like this and depends on how transparent they are with you. With many dealers if not most, if you're a customer who purchases 5 Porsche's a year and you are a regular returning customer, then some dealers will give them preferential treatment and bump them up the list.
Dealers don't just get an allocation for say a 992 Carrera. It will be an allocation for a 992 Carrera 4 S...or 992 Carrera GTS. They can sometimes go months without an allocation for a specific model.
They have an idea of how many of a certain model they will get in a calendar year but it's a lottery how many they actually get in a specific quarter. They normally get details of allocations/build slots about six weeks before the quarter starts. So they'll have had allocations for Q1 '22 mid November.
Few points to note:
1. all dealers have sales targets to meet, I.e. overall number of cars sold.
2. Porsche GB gets an allocation from Porsche AG and matches the dealer orders with the allocated build slots.
3. If the dealer does not have sufficient number of orders to meet the target, they will be issued spare slots that have not been secured by other dealers
4. I have no reason to suspect that some people are getting pref treatment, as I have seen footballers name after mine

Please update us if/when you get a build slot.
I am told that Porsche GB have already sold-out the planned allocation of 911 for 2022, and pre-allocated to dealers who have the customer’s orders with deposits.
I have put down deposit in Dec 2021 and I am promised build slot in 2023.
I ordered in May 2021 and was told end of December. I am allegedly number 1 on the list according to my dealer, so I should get the next C2 dealer gets allocated. Time will tell. Not sure if they say the same to all.
It is good business to have unsaturated demand, with production pre-sold a year in advance.
I suspect that Porsche AG has severe supply chain disruptions, as I saw a build-to-promise chart at the OPC (issued by Porsche GB) with diff derivatives of the 911 promised in diff quarters. E.g. if you place deposit in Dec-21, you should have new Carrera delivered in 3Q2023; Carrera S was 4Q2023; Carrera GTS was 2Q2023.

It will not be just supply constraints but also intentional rationing of ICE cars to match CO2 targets and fines.
Of course the system is very different for GT cars, i.e. GT2, GT2RS, GT3, GT3RS, GT4RS. If you are a special customer, you might have a chance of getting a car. If you are a normal punter who maybe orders a Porsche every 2 years or so you will be added to the list but you will never get a car as the special customers will always jump the queue and therefore always be ahead of you. Special customers are people who buy a lot of Porsches, famous people and probably above all, those who have a very close relationship with the dealer principal. The situation is not helped by the fact that GT cars are produced in limited numbers.

Fair point, the DP list for GT cars is a different story. Few Illuminati know how it works
Dealers don't only sell new cars, they sell used cars as well - and used cars can be highly profitable. The manufacturer makes nothing from the sale of used cars but will want a high priced used market to protect the high selling price of new cars. Making and selling cars is a big machine with many interacting parts.
The manufacturer doesn't usually care who new cars are sold to; it just wants them sold. However, they want an orderly market so will lean on dealers in subtle ways to ensure they're not, for instance, auctioning build slots.
Some customers are "regulars" who want a new car every two years so will always have at least one order in the pipeline.
The world is full of Porsches. If you want one, buy one.
If you want a brand new one of a sought-after model, be prepared to wait.

Well said @Panamax , in addition many vehicle manufacturers make more money on Parts & Accessories, than on new cars. I suspect Porsche is one of those OEMs, as they have a large fleet of cars on the road that need to be maintained. And it is incredible that one can buy parts from Porsche for a +50-year old car. That in turn supports the resale value, as you know that you can keep it running for the rest of your natural life, if you wanted to.

not sure they are telling you the truth there, the allocations for march build were sorted in November, January will be for May build and June delivery.
I think it varies. I know people who had a build slot confirmed just two mo the before the actual build is done. I think it depends on how quickly the dealer gets their allocation and how quickly they work through their customers.

This is the last email from my dealer hence I asked the question here..
(My apologies for not getting back to you, we have received some of q1 allocation however as of yet we have not received any Carrera 2 slots, with this in mind the earliest that we will now receive your build slot will be March and if this is the case the vehicle will be delivered in April)
I suppose time will tell.
I’m also waiting on an allocation - for a gts 2 cab. I ordered in September and was told to expect a car in q2. I’ve had no further news save for an indication that nothing had changed in December. If delivery were to take place in may or June when would be the last time to expect an allocation by? What is the usual lockdown of spec before build?
Thanks in advance. I’ve had a few Boxster in the past and never had to wait for an allocation so it’s all a bit new and to be honest I’m a bit worried about whether it’ll happen as promised. Very excited at the same time by the car.

that sounds wrong to me, they get the allocations months in advance, never a month before, unless its a cancelled order you take and you get someone else's allocation. The build has to be locked in about 6 weeks before too.
Sadly I dont think they are telling you the truth at the moment.

I ordered in August and was offered an allocation for March delivery in November (when the March delivery allocations were dealt out), if you re being told Q2, then I would assume you might hear something in Jan/Feb, for the May build June delivery.
I have a GTS 2 Cab on order too. Lockdown of spec depends on the dealer, they'll want it as early as possible and will tell you that if you change it it will delay the car, which it might or might not depending on the change. I think in general the rule is about 6 weeks in advance of the build though.

It may well be a lie, the dealer has showed me the C2 waiting list in September and I was the first on the list. According to them they have not received any C" allocations since then. I spoke to him this week and he said you will definitely hear from us in early January.
Again I dont know, will update you guys..
On a side note, do you think people like us p
s off our dealers when we ask if there’s been any progress on allocation? I think I may have pissed mine off, even though he hasn’t said anything to that effect! Thing is I placed my order at the beginning of July for a 992 C2 GTS and at the time was told my car would arrive at best by Xmas and latest Jan 2022. Yet here we are almost in the New Year and I don’t even have an allocation
Apparently I’m 3rd on the list, but I’ve been in that position for a couple of months now…. It’s a bit deflating because at this rate I’m not confident I’ll ever get the car

Don’t think I’ve caused any issue as I’ve waited for updates to now since September. I was told last month that there was no change and q2 was still expected. I think I’m nervous about it due to all the messing about that goes on - or allegedly does - with gt cars and regular buyers with the worry being that a regular turns up and steal the allocation with an extra wait for me which then results is possibly the price increase applying. Also in like to have the car for the summer at latest having sold my weekend car in September.
I think that I will start asking for updates on allocation soon as surely the allocations for q2 delivery will be issued in the next few weeks?
The situation is equally frustrating for the dealers. As a regular customer, I spoke with a sales manager today and he simply doesn’t have the info. Business is tough and dealers are trying to compensate with second hand vehicles. However, if you are willing to wait you will get a new and shiny Porsche.

From my understanding a car with a spec locked back in late November will hopefully be delivered late feb early March. To me this would mean if car with a spec locked in Jan it could turn up in May.
Dealers are struggling to get allocations to meet demand, they are also really struggling to get used car stock. Have you offered your current car in px, this may help bump you up the list.

Hi GT4RS,
This will be my first Porsche and I’m currently car less, got rid of my M3 Comp around 6 months ago. I’m working from home so I just use my wife’s car when needed, so nothing to part ex I’m afraid.
I guess what has frustrated me more is when I read people who placed their orders a couple of months after me and they’ve already received their allocations. System doesn’t seem fair and I’m not used to the way Porsche work. Nothing feels certain until you get an allocation and as I’m not seeing any progress it just frustrates me even more. For me this is supposed to be me getting my ‘dream car’, but the experience is a bit s
t at the moment as I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen.
Sorry for the whinging, I know there are more important things in the World and I need to keep things in perspective. Thanks for your post and information regarding the struggles the dealers are having too.

I am in your exact same position. Deposit down for a 718 GTS in July. Sold my M4 in August. Requested to the dealer I wanted delivery for May 2022 and this they felt they could easily deliver. I was told in December I am top of the list so May is still okay based on them getting an allocation in January.
I like you see this as my dream car and I feel I need to tread carefully in order to cause no upset. Given there are others on the waiting list, I feel worried if you choke them off then they will move others to be in front of you. However, I would just like the certainty that I will get the car around May time or indeed a couple of months after. I have sought updates via email, so I intend to pop in say second week of January so I can probe a bit more. As I see it, they are in the driving seat but never experienced this before and its doesn't feel a nice place to be.

Hi RTA3,
Yes, similar position indeed then. And I agree with you in that I don't want to upset them but equally I have a right to be a bit frustrated in that the original timeframes quoted are way off and no sign of an allocation yet either! Someone here once said it's weird how Porsche/OPC almost make you feel as if they're doing you a favour selling you a car.
Each OPC has a computer system which shows allocated cars, which month they will be built and whether they have been allocated to a customer and the spec locked etc. My OPC sales exec has shown me that system more than once when I've been waiting for cars or indeed to shown me that he had good visibility of what was available and could be specced (that feels like another world) when I wanted to buy a car (in this case it was a Macan). So a good/honest OPC Sales Exec can very easily put your mind at rest that they haven't allocated cars to anyone else whilst you are No 1 on the waiting list....
The trouble with what some OPC employees will tell you is that the information is often coloured to suit the story they want you to hear. That's what makes it very hard when you're in the queue and feel like you aren't getting any info.

I think you have to decide up front how much work you want to put into sourcing a car. It's always possible to phone around every dealer in UK and see where they are on sales vs allocation. But if you find earlier availability in, say, Aberdeen or Truro would you really want a car from that far away? Many buyers like to think they have a relationship with their local dealer.
From Porsches point of view they don't want the smaller dealerships to be unable to sell get any cars simply because they've all been sold in London and Manchester.
It's a juggling exercise, especially in situations where cars are over-subscribed and Porsche know some buyers on their books will sell the cars on very quickly.

I think getting that relationship with your local dealer is all important to me and others in this situation. It is hard getting that relationship when you feel like Schuey_911 pointed out that others have suggested Porsche are doing you a favour by selling you a car. That is something very few people experience when buying a car. I can cope with this and I am prepared to wait. I wanted to buy local but I just need the comfort that others are not being put forward in front of me re an allocation and I am not being seen as somebody who wants to flip the car. This is something many of us want as the car is a dream car and perhaps in my case may never be possible for to buy one again.

I think the problems you are both faced with is you are both asking for the GTS model. The GTS models are currently very desirable, I guess this due to the limited supply of GT cars and they are the next go to model in the range.
Have either of you asked if they could supply you with a new S model in the time frame you require?
I’m aware my OPC now has a waiting list for certain GTS cars which sounds like its growing buy the week.
If a car is needed for summer you may be better off paying a little bit more for a good spec nearly new car.

Have either of you asked if they could supply you with a new S model in the time frame you require?
I’m aware my OPC now has a waiting list for certain GTS cars which sounds like its growing buy the week.
If a car is needed for summer you may be better off paying a little bit more for a good spec nearly new car.
LOL, getting an S is even more of a wait, 18 months plus, as Porsche are prioritising the GTS builds and thus the lower down models are sacrificed.

I have placed an order/deposit in Dec-21 for the 911 Carrera S, according to Porsche GB promised 4Q2023, the dealer is convinced it will be sooner.

Are you saying that a S model is now harder to buy new over a 992 GTS model?

Porsche are quoting 2023 for all models other than the GTS. Personally I think this means that they are now pushing most capacity at the GTS and all other models will now be 992.2 as it's rumoured to be due 2023. This I think is what happened at the end of the 991.2, nearly all production went to GTS derivatives.
I was told in September that I’d get a gts cab sooner than an S. Afterva quick bit of man maths and price creep I ordered a gts.
Any ideas when the next batch of allocations will come through? Are they issued each month or one batch per quarter?

Yup although they were making the 911 T as well. But certainly Carrera and Carrera S builds were very thin on the ground. In a normal month an OPC might get 5 911’s….assume they are current;ly getting 1 or 2 GT3’s that’s only 3 or 4 cars across all the different variations of Carrera/S/GTS with 2 or 4WD and Coupe/Cab/Targa
Sit tight with all fingers and toes crossed... 2022 unfortunately, is not going to be great with Allocations, what with every thing going on in the world i doff my cap to Porsche for doing their best to keep all allocations drip-fed.
I Genuinely, cant see the smoke through the woods on any type of normal allocations till 2023 at least.. sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I know its a new year..
Sounds like there going to be plenty of disappointed people out there for 2022.
I makes sense now why a friend got bid retail on his roughly year old 992 4 s by a opc, they apparently sold it for over list in a matter of days of taking it in.
Words gone mad.

I sold my Macan Gts back to main dealer after they chased me and offered more than I paid new for it 11 months earlier and I had put 17,000 on the clock !!!

What a jolly soul you are
Not a chance . This is the new world of car buying limited stock , manufacturers and dealers are selling less cars but making bigger profits as they are not providing big discounts. We’ve had 1-2 years of limited supply so this means this will continue for sometime and used cars will be over valued.

and the 'decontenting of new cars' isnt going to help either eg the new options list one example on a GTS the standard wheels are black only now which I really dont like which is why mine has silver , so if people cant get what they want its a further pressure

I thought Porsche couldn’t sell above retail until a model run is finished? Is this an outdated rule?
Well my OPC had a GT3RS 991 (when it was still current) for way past its original cost

Even the Lego Porsche's are over RRP and doubled in price lol

I'm in a similar position. Where is yours coming from?
I wonder if there is little advance info coming from the factory other than immediate allocations that they know they can build.

They can't sell a new car over list, just a used car. There was also a rule that they couldn't advertise an over list car within the first 6 months of production/release, but that seems to be getting ignored now....

As it is 6 months since I put my deposit down, today I phoned for an update. The best they could say was Q2 Q3.
I’ve stopped calling as they don’t know (I’m Q4 2022) and five months since I placed my deposit. I’m now at the stage where I’m expecting it to be delayed longer and will then take a view whether I am interested at the time as the auto world is changing so fast at the moment.
I guess if it was Q2 for you then he would already know so he is really saying Q3?

My car has now moved from build code V200 to V250 with completion date of 9th of Sep.
Hopefully this means there will be no further delays! Original completion was 8th of Jul.
Where did you get this information from, I get occasional e-mails from Porsche and chase my salesman but nothing as sophisticated as this
This time I asked my sales guy for an update and he sent me a screen shot of their sales management system. (Your chap will be able to send this to you - so just ask for it). This showed the details of the cars build status via the V codes and estimated completion date. My take is when the car reaches V250 from V200 it is now fixed for build with a more certain completion date. When it enters production the code will change to V260 and when completed V300. If you put Porsche build V Codes into Google people have documented the whole process.

Thanks for confirming.
Mine went to V250 yesterday . Hopefully not long now .

What is your completion date?
Completion date is the 16th
Still showing stage 3 in the app, I presume because it’s not started production yet ?
I ordered a 991 Cabriolet in November 2021, the estimated delivery was May 2023.
Called Porsche Guildford to see how it was going. The salesman has left. The person I spoke to basically laughed at me that I would get it in May and said they never quote delivery dates. I pointed out it was written on my order!
There were 9 on order in total, last year they got 3.
I was passing today so dropped in. I am apparently no 3 and they get their next allocation in November which ( it was not that clear) seems to be for the year with some possible top ups if they are lucky.
As such I will apparently get my car in 2023.
The current lead time quoted is 24 months.
Hope this is useful to someone.
Overall I like Porsche cars but their services is poor ( I have asked Porsche West London for a service quote 3 times so far without reply) and Porsche W London never called me back when I wanted a car so I went to Guildford. Whilst not the dealers fault per se how Porsche cannot know when they will delivered an ordered car which has a deposit on it is a bit of a mystery to me but given I don't run the place my view is not really that important!

Apologies for selective quoting @Jeremy-75qq8
I also find it hard to believe that the dealer would take a deposit and couldn’t secure build slot with a date. We are in the 3rd decade of the 21 century and most cars are built to order.
I am on my 3rd Porsche and I can’t get over the lack of visibility of their production schedule.
I’m hoping mine is on the boat now also. Had the email to set up connect and select the options I want. Just need to sort out insurance. Wondering if the tracker is worthwhile at 269 a year.
My dealer told me that my car is now on the ship and should reach UK today and should be in the showroom in 10 days. Glad to have this 80plus weeks wait over. What a journey

That is good news, @Docmem, there must be more goodies on that boat, JIT for Christmas!

Whilst the wait may be frustrating it is more than worth it. I am so pleased with mine.
I am now 56 weeks from the order/deposit date. I would appreciate a call from the OPC, offering me an allocation.

Cars are now coming regularly and hopefully you will get the allocation soon and would not have to wait as long as I had :-)

They are…looking at Porsche Colchester’s Insta feed…they’ve had two transporters full of cars in the last week. 16 cars.
My OPC is expecting a huge amount of new cars to be delivered this month.

Good news! That should flush-out the queue a little. Now we need few more allocations.
My order is approaching the longest wait for allocation recorded on the ’Order to Delivery’ thread, current record of 60-weeks is held by @bl0498 and his C4S was delivered after 91-weeks.
These cars have been selling at a premium for 2 years and I had to wait almost that long. I have mine at last so their value is bound to fall off a cliff because delivery will be within 7 minutes of order.
Not that it matters to me as at the moment this is going to be a keeper, it is all I hoped for and much more, as I say worth the wait.

Same here @Dixy, it is worth every penny to me. People seeking GBP per km efficiency, should migrate to KIA or similar and leave “petrol therapy” to us.
Also, the 2030 is approaching slowly and anyone that has a strain of motoring DNA, knows that one of these days flat-six will become unobtanium! In 2030 we will discover which cars and models go off the cliff and which go to the moon!
Fast approaching 52 weeks since my order, happy to wait. OPC lent my a standard C2 the other weekend. Love it. I will carry on waiting, but changing to a T

Good call @xxxx5 , are you going Manual, or reverting to PDK?
This is hard decision….I have a Cayman PDK and love the gearbox. I have had two slipped discs in my lower back and my consultant said manual gear boxes didn’t help. But all the current reviews say go manual in a T.

Interesting. Porsche Guildford tell me any model change I go to the back of the queue.

Yes, standard procedure, unless you specified C2T as an option on your order form.
I read the other day that 911 has 21 derivatives, some for queuing and others by invitation only.

I guess it depends on number of things, but my OPC said they would give me the choice given my wait and that I have other cars in order with them.
The whole process to me is a mess.
Your order should be sent to Porsche and dealer allocations have noting to do with it.
Porsche then know they have 1000 on order and make 100 a week so 10 weeks delay ( if only ).
Put my build order in on March 12, 2022 for a 911 s. Just spoke with my dealer and was told they didn't get any 911 allocations for March. I am going on 12 plus months waiting on a Carrera S allocation. Is anyone else waiting on base or s models for 12 months or more? Any feedback from anyone who took delivery already on an S or base model in regard to how long they waited for a slot is much appreciated.

I saw 3-4 being handed over at Guildford yesterday (not Carrera S though, I think they were Targas and C4GTS)

I ordered a Carrera S in July 2021 and due to the lack of allocations of base and S Carreras I ended up taking the dealers 2023 GTS allocation and took delivery on Monday.
During handover I was told that my car was the only GTS they were getting this year so unfortunately the long wait for new cars doesn’t seem to be over just yet.
I hope something comes up for you soon.
@rofadel - have a look at the “911 from Order to Delivery” thread which is being managed by @Pivo to track the waiting time to allocation , build and delivery of the whole range of models..

I couldn’t say for sure but the 2 used GTS at my dealers did look pricey and not far off list.
