Hello forum, I am having issues filling my fuel tank. I have searched the web to no avail. I have rotated nozzle and filled at a slow rate. Still blows gas back at me and clicks off within a few seconds. There is not a fuel vapor recovery hood on the pump nozzles here in South Carolina that requires the small extension collar offered for sale. The parts houses are baffled, other forums have no guidance. Surely someone has encountered this issue and found a solution? Anyone.......anyone? Thanks
That's very odd. I can think of two possibilities:
1) a kink or other obstruction in the hose between the filler neck and the tank.
2) something going on with the fuel injection system such that the tank is building up pressure.
Interested to hear what you might find.
Never had mine spit fuel at me. Never had much luck with turning the nozzle upside down either. Lifting the nozzle up by the hose end while it's inserted all the way seems to work fine.
My 07 does not have this issue and I have not heard of complaints. I'd lean towards racegreg's #1 point - some kind of obstruction. Have you owned the car a while and it just started happening?
Had the exact same issue with my Benz. The problem drove me loco. There is a valve in the evaporative emission loop which opens // closes to prevent or allow the tank to vent to the atmosphere. On the Benz it was located behind one of the fender/wheel well liners. When it fails the tank won’t accept fuel
Don’t know where it is physically located in the
Cayman
but I suspect it has gotten stuck closed or has failed completely. Suggest you locate it and replace it. Relatively inexpensive part. Good luck
I had this problem with my '01 996. So bad I couldn't get any fuel in it. Turns out it was the evaporative emission valve as Ahalpern47 suggests. IIRC, there was a blown fuse.
Shame the FAQ vanished with the rest of the Files and Articles. As I recall this was a common complaint on Gen 1
Caymans
.
There is a
Porsche
TSB regarding some of what you are describing. The problem was address by installing a venting collar on the filler neck. This solved my problems completely and installs in seconds.
Suncoast
has the part #PK9X7NOZZLE
Tim
Thanks everyone. Will try to locate evaporative emissions valve location and part? Anyone? The collar imtwils
Suggests speaks to the gas nozzle vapor hood. We don’t have those in South Carolina. Thanks though.
Hey Tim, welcome! Joined 1 day ago and with 1 post provides an explanation, part number and source for the repair part... excellent!
Guys does anyone have any guidance on this? Having the same issue with my
987.1
Not quite understanding your question, there are multiple answers in the thread and even a source for a solution, what's missing?
I have the same problem, I used the
fuel filter
nozzle and it helped quite a bit. I would recommend trying the new nozzle first before you try anything else.
