Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Planet-9: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

The good thing for you guys is that you get to have it fixed under warranty but I can imagine your pain.

POST 1Original post

hi all, "check engine, visit workshop", came on 2day, on a brand new 2010 cayman with only 700 miles, after a cold start (car wasnt driven for about 20 hours). warning light was on the on board computer as well (no red exclamation mark on the dash), and yellow one on the dash.. came out after few second and didnt came on (in the next 10 min). i took my other car, so wont drive the cayman, fearing from engine failure. car was "ticking" a bit (timing issue?) is it safe to drive the car? do i have to visit the dealer, even if it wont come on again? (dealer is about 60 miles away.) i read about smoking base caymans, which has to do with some engine issue, my car did smoked once on cold start (little) and again when switching from high idle to normal, after cold start. no smoke clouds.. only a bit. car was build 12/09. thanks in advance !! edit- btw, car is 100% stock.

POST 2Original post

i would ask the dealer to come and get the car

POST 3Original post

i would drive it my selfe, if i would go, i saw the way the guy which are picking up the cars drive them.. btw2- could it be coz of poor fuel quality? thanks

POST 4Original post

without the code its anyones guess....call the dealer and see what they advise

POST 6Original post

First I would say relax, it is not uncommon for our cars to trip a check engine light (CEL) at startup if say for example the car hasn't been driven in awhile, has poor gas, high humidity or combination thereof. Typically it is the engine warmup cycle has tripped a code for something out of range. Usually these are anomalous readings and will go away if you simply drive the car or let it warm up, shut it off and start it again. You can check the code yourself by getting a code reader from a local auto parts store, Sears, or whatever you have that is similar in your area. With that code you can look it up online or call your dealer and tell them what the code is. They can tell you how serious it might be and whether or not it is OK to drive your car to the dealership to have the code reset, or if any service work is needed.

POST 7Original post

I feel very sorry as I keep on reading these threads about the problems of new base Cayman models. The good thing for you guys is that you get to have it fixed under warranty but I can imagine your pain. My advice to base 987.2 Cayman owners is to keep it stock and never modify it during the warranty (actually you MUST extend the warranty to 7 years), just in case if it broke down (which seems very likely) to have it fixed under warranty. Really? Since I am relocated to a very high humid city all year long, why would high humidity trigger CEL? And what is the impact of humidity on TPC's turbo performance?

POST 8Original post

thanks all for the answers! car was right after a wash, and i didnt move it for the few hours after. it was washed in a close space and stay there, maybe this could cause high humidity.. any way, called the dealer, he said- "probably some sensor, safe to drive the car, bring it in sunday for a scan, dont worry you have warranty". i dont want my car to be fixed by warranty, i dont want it fixed at all.. any way, keep you update. thanks ! btw- he didnt ask if it was S cayman or base..

POST 9Original post

Probably because he already guessed Sorry, that was just to tease you... I hope all turns out well without the need to fix it as you said.

POST 11Original post

update- fault memory showed cylinder 1 2 3 5 misfire, dealer clame fot bad fuel. fuel was pumped out.. waiting to see reasult with the new one..
