Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Performed · outcome unconfirmed

In both these cases, I think it's more a case of an aggravating noise than an immediate danger to the running and performance of the car, but obviously get this double checked by a mechanic.

Suggestion

I had intended to replace the latter on my Boxster (having done the rest myself); parts cost £15-20 and can be done with the front up on ramps, the under tray clipped off and a screw driver to release the two worn bushes.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can't hear it, but can feel it under my left foot when resting on end of footwell. Happens when turning, or when releasing brake in a straight line. I guess a joint or bearing is worn somewhere? Its an early gen 2 with 42k on clock.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thinking about it, it's more of a clunk than a knock. I'm no good at describing this sort of thing.

POST 3Original post

There are a number of suspension components at the front end of a 987 that can go (I know from experience, having gone through the motions with my 986 and now potentially suffering the same symptoms in my 987.2). Coffin arms (suspension control arms) have a ball joint at the outer edge, right behind the wheel. A known problem, this dries up as the rubber wears in time and can deliver all sorts of creaks and groans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wltTZ8TAgmw Strut top bearings can also go, as above, leading to creaks whilst turning. In both these cases, I think it's more a case of an aggravating noise than an immediate danger to the running and performance of the car, but obviously get this double checked by a mechanic. Finally; front drop links and anti-roll bar bushings. If you can feel the "rattle" through the steering, it might be either of these. I had intended to replace the latter on my Boxster (having done the rest myself); parts cost £15-20 and can be done with the front up on ramps, the under tray clipped off and a screw driver to release the two worn bushes.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info, reassuring to know its likely not an imminent danger. I'll be taking it to an OPC for the 111 point check in a month or so, no doubt they'll tell me what needs doing!
