This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

On the other hand I think there must be loads of 996 running round with these faulty, and it doesn't seem to do them any harm, aside from fans only coming on full blast.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I spotted this hanging loose today, one in both sides in front of front wheel arch. Looks like a sensor? What is it

POST 2Original post

Resistor for the low speed fan. With the air con on and engine running both fans should run at low speed. If either isn't then this is what is faulty. MC

POST 4Original post

Looks like the clips that hold it to the fan mounting have turned to dust also and the reason it has been dragging on the floor.

POST 5Original post

You can just chop in a £12 resister from RS (do a search for part number) to fix. Although I'd be tempted to whip my support brackets of and derust / repaint as those look crusty. On the other hand I think there must be loads of 996 running round with these faulty, and it doesn't seem to do them any harm, aside from fans only coming on full blast.
